i How many people in this catagory are growing without problems?

grew in a 1 bedroom apt with 2k

grew in a 2 bedroom with 3k

all in a non medical state

it can be done

change your locks even if they say you cant.

Saved me a couple of times.......maintenance was like "we couldn't get in your place"

I was like oh "sorry man here you go" it wasn't a big deal they didn't really care..........but had I not changed the locks I would be in prison right now:xmasnut:

so definitely change the locks

heres waht im wondering. IF I do it in a bedroom and I lock the door with a key, then wouldn't that minimize the risk? what reason would they need to go into the bedroom for? also the grow would be in the bathroom of that room with another door which will also be locked too. what reasons will they come into your apartment for. and please don't reply with any reason, I mean people(you guys) that own apartments what are reasons they came into or wanted to go into your apartment. aslo you say maintenence wanted to get in. What Im saying is why not lock your inside rooms with keys. theres no reason for them to go ino your bedroom.

If I were to be growing in an apartment, I would keep the grow out of any room with plumbing and out of the closet that contains the breakers. Frankly I don't think it's a horrible idea depending on where you are but renter's rights vary from building to building when you really get down to it. Laws can say what they would like but it's simple truth that different apartments are different. I have friends growing in an apartment but their landlord is off-site and they can't get anything fixed or sprayed even if they asked for it. I also know people living in apartments where the landlord will come by on the weekend while they're out just to shut the blinds.

If you're considering it, stick around a while first and evaluate the place.
Consider the following things:
How are your local renters righs?
How are your local cannabis cultivation, possession AND distribution laws?
Is the landlord on-site?
WHO is your landlord? (a single Russian lady? a 60 year old retiree? commercial entity?)
Is there a superintendent?
Security? How many locked doors between outside and your grow? How many lockable doors between the hallway and your grow?
How many visits do you get a week from building-related persons? A month?
What are the standing "rules" for visits from maintenance? (Can they enter without notice? 24 hour notice? Will they call and ask if you're home first?)
Is it a social living space (dorm) or very private (condo-house)?
Have the cops ever been called to your building?
Have the cops ever been called on you?
Do you have heavy (social) traffic in your home?
Do you deal drugs out of your home? (big no-no for growers)
Do you lead a loud, attention-calling existence? (big parties, broken things, noise, excess trash all bad)
Do you have lots of persons of questionable standing to your home?
Who pays your utilities?
Are your utilities managed by building?
How is your water supply?
Do you have enough storage space?
Do you have good disposal available?
Will fan noise be able to be hidden, or tolerated?
Will smell be adequately scrubbed, or is it acceptable?

I live in an apartment but don't grow. I wouldn't do it, there's just too many things to go wrong. Say your downstairs neighbor says there is water leaking into their apartment.....expect a visit. Say your idiot neighbor's 6 year old was making jiffy-pop and started a fire.....expect a visit. Say your maintenance guys do come in while you're gone and smell fresh ganja.....expect some questions.

Like I said, there's just too many variables when you have people in the same building as you. And with the economy in the shitter, it's possible to find a small house with a monthly payment barely more than the rent for an apartment.

Sailsinthesun, that last statement may be true in a lot of places but not necessarily in major cities. I have some friends very close to me trying to find a house in the area but it is heavily populated and the market is not as saturated as everywhere else.

As for the apartment thing, a buddy who lives in a complex down the way says the other night he had his hallway fill up with smoke and all the alarms were going off. Firemen came, decided it was someone's cooking caught on fire, put it out and left and didn't even turn the alarms off. Another hour before his superintendent turned off the alarms and sprayed the hallways with deodorizer.

So yes some situations are risky but situations only unfold according to the people playing them out. The old apartment I lived in? Had there been smoke in the hallway everyone would have been questioned by the building manager, and she would have asked to come into every apartment to look for "smoke damage" - this actually happened once. My buddy's place? Nothing, not even from the super. Took him a day to find out it was someone's food on fire!

I am glad to have a safe home for myself and my ladies, but there is nothing stopping me from saying I could use somewhere safer. I imagine I'll be saying that no matter where until cultivation is legal.

good points, thanks guys. I think I will evaluate the place for a while first. even then with the plumbing stuff, what happens if my doors are locked to the area that has plumbing shit?? will they call me to unlock the doors, Im sure they wont just kick them in. and the law is 24hours notice for any maintenence visit. in the paperwork they give all people considering renting it explains a bunch of sdtuff and one thing is says is if you are suspected of selling or(I belive it said also) growing drugs you will be asked to leave within 7 days, so dose that mean they kick you out rather then get authority involved? is their a reason they would give you a 7 day notice and not just call the cops?

If the grow is going to be in a bathroom of the bedroom the one thing i would be worried about is annual inspection or something like that.

I lived at a place for 2 years the first year they did a quick inspection it seemed just for to "check the boxes"

they did check the bathroom real quik to see if they were any leaks or anything but they were in an out and my grow was in the walk in closet and they never checked in there

but for things like that they will usually give you like a weeks notice, so If you have a grow in the bathroom before they come "if they come" you can throw all your stuff in the closet or something.

One thing you can do is tell the landlord you had some jewelry or something stolen from your last apartment and that you want to be present if any maintenance come through so it doesn't happen again

id start out with a cabinet grow until you figure out normal patterns for your location.I think you will be fine as long as you spend some time paying attention to your area.

yeah you could def start your seedlings and what not under some cfls

because it will be a month before you can actually move under a big lights anyways

the seedlings will be small plants for a while anyways and that could give you some time to scope the area out

the grow will be 4 mother plants vegged for 2 months befor flower. Nothing crazy, Im fine if I get notice as I can hide shit if I have notice. which I picked up a book at a local book store and read landlord laws as to what they can and cant do in florida and according to the book they have to give you atleast 24 hours notice. One thing is trying to fiure out yearly inspections without wating for them but without raising suspicion by asking. Id like to figure out what type of inspections will be taking place, if any....

yeah you should be good I also live in your state

just change your locks

also if they want to spray for bugs just tell them your allergic to pestisides ect

but like i said unless its an emergency they won't just come in and to make sure you change those locks for a back up

so hopefully your place won't flood while your gone or some other act of "god"

for something small like that i wouldnt worry to much. even 24 hours is enough to pack down...
went through the same thing on not knowing 100% about inspections. after 4months, told them i was travelling alot, and just enquired on what regularity the inspections are?
no.1 rule, just to re-iterate, i know its been numerously repeated, but change the locks.

Im thniking of doing it in the walk in closet but It dosent have a door so Im thinking of building a frame around the walk in closet area. Another thing tho is, In my eyes changing the locks seems hella suspicious in a nice apartment complex. I mean wouldent they ask for a key eventualy? I dont want to be changing locks on something I dont own. Inside is one thing but the out side door makes me feel like Im hiding something....Unless I say it because I dont want the people before me to have made a key and to get inside.....?

i wouldnt bother telling them about the lock change? just DIY...
keep the door open during inspection, and if they find out, just say you lost your key, changed the locks, and havent got round to telling them or didnt think you needed to or whatever...then give them a copy, and repeat.
you really should change the locks.

Speedcat, I am currently doing an apartment grow. Like the others here say, the main thing that can fuck you up is a plumbing, electrical, or to replace smoke alarm batteries. The apartment I am growing at, has a shitty non-deadbolt for the main door into the apt. We called to ask if we could put a deadbolt on because we said their were some shady characters outside (bs excuse). They said no, lol.. Don't know why, but what I do know, is we didn't want to get into a fight with the administration. Instead, we put a door lock on the bedroom in the apartment that contains the closet where we grow. Their is no bathrooms or anything off the bedroom we locked up, so they have ZERO reason to go in there.

Another thing to consider is neighbors and size of apartment hallway. Like where I'm at, it is a larger building that has maybe 12 apartments in it. These apartments are grouped together in sets of 4. With 1 door leading to each set of 4 (none of them are connected other than that). This is good because it means less traffic to possibly smell or notice strange things. Out of the 3 neighbors, 1 is mentally insane... and the other 2 are really really old. The old people are ALWAYS cooking, so whenever you get anywhere near the exterior of our apartment, you smell nothing but food.
If you're looking for an apartment to grow at, I would definitely scope it out before hand and see how often you catch food odors going on in the hallway.

Important Factors for Apt Growing
-Do each of the Apartment units have their own breaker box and pay for their own electricity bill? (Yes)
-Do you notice ambient cooking smells fairly often when in the hallway outside the apartment? (Yes)
-How many apartments are connected per hallway? (Less is better)
-What are the neighbors like? (Old and crazy will give you the least amount of problems)
-Is their a room you can put a very lightweight lock on inside of the Apartment, that has no plumbing or smoke alarms that could potentially require emergency maintenance? (Yes)

These are some of the key factors you should take into account if you want to grow at or find an apartment to grow at. Remember though, if you modify their property (like Locks on doors) without permission... you're asking for trouble. All it takes is a maintenence man to be by your apartment when you come home to go "Hey since you're here, I need to get a key to your door you changed the locks on, and come inside to do some maintenance" or something along those lines.

Anything visible externally that violates apartment rules you will want to avoid. If everything is secured inside a room/closet in the apartment, they have less ground to stand on then if you changed locks externally. With Apartments, the owner has full control and you're basically their bitch. Just make sure they think everything is peachy and they wont ask questions or bother you. Also remember that anytime you're gone, maintenece could come by and do something... if you're prepared for that at any given time, then you will not have any problems growing in an apartment.
