If you plan to cool your lights with that Vortex, I suggest you ditch the "T" and pull air through the lights rather than pushing, this is much more effective.

Carbon Filter -> Light -> Light -> vortex -> Exhaust ->

Vortex fans are made to handle constant high-heat situations. I have one 6" Vortex cooling 3 1000 watt lights, all in one row.

Hey RockyMtn any idea where I can pickup some intake filter material? Thinking it over I think your option sounds the best for my situation.

Ace Hardware, prolly Home Depot and around here, Habatitat for Humanaty clearance centers.

Concider the light rail also -- it'll pay for itself first harvest.

ALSO-

Since that photo was taken - the room is now in use - and the lights are up near the ceiling I use milk crates to raise younger plants. But plan on gettint the light up - you'll need it sooner or later

Thanks again, heres an update of what I did last night..

Decided to hang the vortex and pull the hot air out of the room and then out thru the Scruber.

Any section I should look for the intake filter material?

wspcolorado: i'm really loving the room. i am looking at getting a co2 setup pretty much identical to yours, how much cash did that run you? Also, how often do you plan on refilling the tank? Sketched about carrying a big co2 tank in and out of your house?

OK, from what I'm seeing, you need to create a "sealed" room, if you want to use that CO2 bottle. I would say you need ducting to collect air from outside the growroom, filtered, as RMH says, great idea. Then use the Teed section to suck to your vortex fan, and blow it outside the room/house. Thats why I asked, if you look at my growthread, you'll see what I mean, in my soil room that has a CO2 generator, the lighting is ducted to where the air is coming/going to and from the room. You REALLY need to make sure your reflectors are sealed, I used a special type of caulking that is meant for sealing airducting, otherwise you'll be refilling that bottle ALOT more than you want to.

or you could get a water chiller and an icebox. seal the room completely and just keep recirculating the same air within the room! this is the route i'm taking -- i'll be sure to post some documentation.

And waste a whole lot more power, how much power does your chiller run? Sounds good in theory, but I am very much a miser when it comes to stuff like this, if I can do it without a $600+ chiller and a $200? icebox, plus the extra electric, I will. I'd rather put the chiller and $$$ for the icebox towards a new UnderCurrent hydro setup, but thats just me. :D For his setup, using a bit more ducting is all he needs, less than $40-50 worth, at the most.

I guess if the money is no object and you absolutely can't vent outside, this is a solution, however, I don't know many people that are flush with cash in this economy. :fsu:

This is exactly why I'm opening a growroom consulting biz. Design, source equipment depending on customer needs (give them the economy option, as well as the premium), and if the customer wants, install all electrical, hvac, plumbing, etc, and give them a turn key room, or have them helping to defray their costs. I'll be doing it for med patients/caregivers, from micro grows all the way to large commercial ops, I've wired, plumbed, ducted and completely put together many setups, WAYYYY before I got my rec. Then help with the growing part if needed. I'm already printing up business cards for this and my clone business. :)

budgood: no doubt, i agree with everything you've said. i guess if you're running co2 you'll be fine with high room temps from those 2 x 1000 watts. but i must say, water chiller/icebox option better than the A/C option. (less electricity, more efficient).

i was simply offering an alternative, you can never have too many options :)

He isn't gonna use AC, unless I misread? Ventilation for the lights is all he needs, and as you said, the higher temps will be necessary to utilize the CO2 more efficiently, but aircooling the lights correctly will allow him to prevent overly high temps. What is your growroom humidity at? Do you use a dehumidifer? I have one in my soil room, almost a necessity in a sealed room, IMHO.

I'm glad someone caught that. you dont want to be constantly exhausting air from your co2 filled room. I think if you're hooked up to a moniter, it would just keep your tank open trying to get to the set ppm or if your using a timer, the co2 you release will be sucked out of the room and you'll be back to normal until it opens again. Like goodbud said, draw air from outside your grow room, though the lights and back out. Then you need another fan for the scrubber just placed inside the room just circulating air through the scrubber. That will require a dehumidifier and probably an a/c unless you're somewhere cold, but it really seems to be the best way to use co2.

sirripalt, Thanks for the support I will be sure to post my grow in the Cocco section once its up and running. As for the tank, its just a 20lb tank that looks like a scuba tank, nos tank :) etc.. I took it in the garage and then into the house. Acting like your doing nothing wrong seem to be key. Total cost tank and regulator from the local hydro $260.00

Budgod, I havent checked the humidity yet in the room. But will be sure to once I get everything hooked up.

Still not sure the best option for the Co2? Maybe run the first 5 minutes or so when the lights first come on? And leave the fans off? Anyone have experience with this?

Hey WSPColorado the room is looking good. have you considered adding an extra fan specifcally to cool down your hoods. Just suck cool air from outside the grow room over the lights then directly out of the room. You can constantly be cooling your lights even when the exhaust is shut off in order to maintain co2 ppm levels.

Also I was wondering how discrete sounding that 6" Vortex fan is. I was thinking of getting that same one but was wondering if it would be quiet enough. I plan on running it at around 90-100% max speed.

dude, i have the 6" vortex and i had to put it on a custom controller i made (using a dimmer switch) to quiet the damn thing down. i mean it's probably quiet for the CFM it's putting out, but at full speed you're definitely going to hear it. at around 2/3 speed it's efficient, and much quieter.

you could pick up a controller, and you can just set your desired PPM level :)

Or if you don't have the dough for that, figure out what the cubic foot per minute released by the CO2 source, be it bottle, generator, etc, and figure out how big the space is (lengthxwidthxheighth=cubic foot). Then do a bit of math to find out how long it'll take to enrich the area to 1500 ppm. Thats what I do in my co2'd soil room, works well.
