Three total plants remain;
2x Blueberry (DJ Short)
1x Tahoe Alien #5
The Ghost Train Haze #8 turned out to be a true hermaphrodite. It did not have stress flowers (bananas), but did have male and female flowers, with most of the male flowers being on the lower branches, while the tops were female, and in between were a combination of male and female mixed flowers.
In this shot you can see some of the male flowers growing. In other parts, the pollen sacks were fully formed, green, and very hard.
The other plants seem to be doing well. These guys have been through root aphids and powdery mildew but seem to be strong now.
LST Blueberry
Blueberry frost
Tahoe Alien #5
I will say that the Blueberry does in fact smell like blueberries, while the TA#5 smells woody, minty.
I have reduced the light output from 600w to 450w (dimmable) as there are a reduced number of plants.
As 4 weeks have finished, I have to say that the canopy is well formed and coming along nicely!
The Tahoe Alien is super frosty, and the Blueberry started off not very frosty. That is changing now.
Another shot of the canopy from the side...
The Tahoe Alien has pretty small buds, which are widely spaced. However, they are forming very well, the plant looks healthy, and the frost on this guy is insane. The pictures just don't do it justice.
Still dealing with PM. Greencure does in fact burn hairs, even at low concentrations, when it comes into contact with flowers. I have noticed however, that early on at least, this does not stunt bud growth and new hairs grow out. I try to avoid spraying anything directly on buds, but accidents happen.
I will say that I tested some Serenade on a small side branch bud, soaking it to see what it would do. 2 days later, the bud seemed fine, no burning, and trichomes were still in place. Still, not good policy overall.
The Blueberry is very susceptible to mold. Out of the other strains that were in this room (Deathstar, Acapulco Gold, Ghost Train Haze # 8, Tahoe Alien #5), ONLY the Blueberry gets the PM. A lot of this has to do with the plant being extremely dense with lots of leaves. The leaves are generally soft, and stacked on top of each other in layers, making perfect little hiding spots for PM.
I just continue to spray here and there. I will be able to keep it at bay for harvest, and have decided that I probably won't grow this strain again. It seems to be very strong with fast growth, short flowering time, high yield. But, there are other strains out there like that which aren't so susceptible to mold. After this run, I may go back to the Afghan Kush growing as those plants were impervious to most afflictions making for easy, happy growing.
Sorry brother, didn't know they were already flowering. Eagle20 is apparently some bad shit you don't want to use anyway and a product I regret purchasing now.
They still look to be doing well and Serenade/GreenCure keeping the PM to a minimum, but Optic Foliar makes a product by the name of ATAK that knocks out much worse PM shown in the thread below. It can also be used up until harvest apparently. I just picked up the Overgrow myself, which is their all-in-one product, to try as a preventative for botrytis and PM. Had a bit of both before from high RH, and the thought of a ruined harvest scares me shitless.. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=287496
Everything still looking nice though man. Keep it up.
Wow you had a lot of fires to put out there. Great job on that they have recovered well!
What are your temps like? That seems like a lot of light for a 4" exhaust. Are there any fans in the grow space for air circulation? Just thinking more air blowing around would dry things out a bit....especially if you're spraying anything in there
About the Ghost Train Haze herm I think its best to keep bagseed out of the garden.. at least for me with my limited space..that seed had a good chance of going herm because that's what it's genetic tendency is.. since that's what the plant that went into the bag did to begin with. I plan on finding a good spot outside next spring for a couple bagseed I hung onto
Good luck going forward they look real nice and healthy now
I want to preface these pictures by pointing out that I'm not a photographer, I'm actually the opposite of that. Also, I'm using a cell phone. It's a good cell phone, but not a dedicated camera.
In some of the pics you may see spots of PM. I'm aware of this. I will have those parts soaked in an h2o2 solution before trimming. Any continued growth during the drying and curing process and they go in the trash. The buds have remained healthy this entire time.
The black pots are 2 gallon, the white bag is 3 gallon.
Smaller Blueberry.
This plant had a robust root aphid infestation, and has had PM since the start of flower. It's a survivor.
This is the larger, LST Blueberry. It was the last to get root aphids before treatment began and so it suffered the least.
This is the Tahoe Alien #5. This was the toughest plant of the bunch. Very PM resistant, and, root aphids didn't seem to affect it. Seems to be a low producer, but the potency looks like it will be up there.
The next pictures will be of harvest and wet weight.
To answer questions, my temp is around 80 in the day, 70 at night. The room gets a lot of circulation. The source of the PM is outside of the room. If I don't circulate there is no PM. When I do circulate, areas that get the most air have the most PM. You can actually see the airflow by following the path of PM.
I cannot find anything in my apartment contributing to this. However, with where I live, if residents of any of three adjacent apartments smoke inside, I know it. When they cook, I know what it is. When their dog shit's I smell it. I wouldn't doubt that if odors can pass through, so can spores. Lucky for them I have excellent air filtration. I could just leave the filter off for a day and the Tahoe Alien alone would run them out of there like riot gas lol.
Green Spleen thanks for the advice which I will follow. I've learned it's good to know your genetics, especially when dealing with hydro buckets... I'll post a pic of my next project in a bit
Trichomes and the plants overall look ready. The Tahoe Alien could probably go another week but since it's in soil and I'm anxious to get soil out of here we'll just harvest it as well.
Product was weighed dry before putting into jars a few days ago for curing. I didn't bother to weigh wet or take extensive photos, as there just didn't seem to be much interest here
Dry yields are as follows;
Blueberry - 5oz total (on the nose).
Tahoe Alien #5 - 38.9g
I quick dried both a sample of the blueberry and the TA#5.
The blueberry was extremely nasty, an unpleasant, nasty barf fest. Potency was very good, surprising for a strain regarded as less than potent and considering uncured buds. Buzz was energetic, sativa like. Long lasting, 2+ hrs and this is with a very high tolerance.
TA#5 tasted distinctly of other alien strains (Alien Rock Candy, Alien Hand Grenades), but had the planty, uncured finish. Still the sample was completely smokable, and was very smooth. Potency was excellent. The buzz was a relaxed, floating energy, somewhat narcotic. My preferred buzz type. I'm very excited about the TA#5
I might post again at the 30 day mark. I have grabbed bits and pieces to smoke here and there, and each and every day there is a marked difference. For example, the blueberry actually smells and is starting to taste like blueberry. The TA#5 is just getting stronger in flavor - it will be overpowering I'm sure.
I suppose after the 30 day cure report, that's a wrap!
I will say that the TA#5 is the best cannabis I've ever grown, possibly ever smoked. I'm very proud of that, especially since it survived root aphids and PM. I shared some with a friend that has back problems, and it kept him off of opiates for the day. Same friend asked me for a ride somewhere, but was so stoned that he couldn't quite describe where he was trying to go for awhile LOL good stuff
I can't imagine once this stuff is cured for 30, 60, and then 90 days
I'm going to call that a wrap and end the grow thread here. Thanks for those that participated, and the lurkers that may have been able (hopefully) to take away something from this brief journey
