Greenbeams vs Phantom Test Part 1

That's a really good price for the Phantom. Especially with free shipping.

Yeah, I had to post it, and the 10% off coupon is good through july on everything on that website and free shipping on anything over $50.
I normally just lurk around, but this was worthy of posting I thought.

So besides the spectrum and par and everything, I just love the way my flower tent looks with the lights on now as opposed to the purple/pink hue to LED lights.

The greenbeams look nice and I like the uniform coverage, but for a small grow tent that is rectangular in shape, I really thing the phantom hood is where its at.

Just a small update. I've got a 3x3 tent, but all I've been using it for is 2 trays of rooting clones. I decide to put the clones on the floor, and run the phantom air-cooled over an elevated 3x3 tray. I'm going to run a few GG#4 in a SCROG. I just finished setting up everything except the screens(the plants are too small).

Anyways, a few comments on the air cooled kit. The made in china quality shows. The hood has several holes for mounting the flanges and glass. The holes all have spot-welded, threaded "nuts", behind them. The welds aren't very strong, and if you're not careful, they'll pop loose from the inside of the hood. I had a few do this, and it was a real PITA to get them tightened up. You have to take the reflective insert apart to get the nuts back, then use pliers to hold them while you tighten the screws. Not fun. Also, the frame for the glass isn't square to the hood, so you have to tweak it some to get it closed. I didn't take the time for PAR readings, but I can if anyone is interested. Keep in mind I'm using t-12's. I'd prefer t-9's, but this is a budget project, and I've already got the t-12's from the greenbeams. I'm vegging with a 942, and I'll switch to the 930 for flower. I've got a 4" vortex fan pulling through a 4x15 canlite carbon filter, blowing through the hood and out of the tent. I'd prefer to be pulling through the hood as well, but space just won't allow it. I measure ~110cfm at the exit, and it seems to be enough to keep the tent in the hi 70's. Hydrofarm would definitely benefit from some additional quality control.

i am curious if it is possible to remove the steel box from the phantom and attach just the aluminum reflector and socket/cord to the ceiling. it could be easier to cool, and i'd put it right under the exhaust duct.
in my head i'm imagining it to be like a less polished greenbeams.
i'd like to use the greenbeams, but it is cost prohibitive and i'm only lighting a 3x3' space so using the gbs wouldn't be using them to their full potential.
i think, looking at this picture, it is possible.
