Efendi is a title the Turkish equivalent of Sir. So The guy's name was Sir Eulegio. Fairly common Turkish name.

You do realize the Turks are from Central Asia the land of cannabis? Uzbekistan, Turkestan, Kazakhstan, and part of Afghanistan are all Turkish.

I talk about Turkish like nation not about whole Islamic world. Growing weed isn't popular hobby like this days only poor people do this.

Does any one know of any strains that have greek landrace genetics?, as im a medicinal grower for my wife who has MS, she is greek ,and im of the belief some of the strains she was used to in greece, would be a good starter for my eventual plans, to breed a strain specifically for her symptoms.
been trying for a while to track down some seeds from the legendary kalamata strain but to no avail,
it seems since she left greece her home town is flooded with albanian weed which doesnt come near the kalamata and cretan strains she was used too, of course we have friends over there tryin to locate some, but if any one knows where i might find some please let me know.

My friends of Tropical Seeds Co are right now testing a suppoused Greek landraces. I only can give you the info given by the person who donated the seeds, n what T.S.Co are being able to observe during their test:

Athina North Greek Landrace
From the fifteenth century to the nineteenth century Greece was under the control of the Ottoman Turk Empire who controlled the entire Middle East. The Ottomans are a tribe of Central Asia who were forced to migrate by pressure from other tribes to present-day Turkey, from where they subsequently spread throughout the Middle East. Most likely, hashish and its production by screening have been introduced and inherited from central Asia through Persia or India to most of the regions of this area that have arid climates essential for the sifted collection of resin, being popularly known during the last centuries the hashish produced in Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Greece. The latter being referred to as a place where hybrids were made between those plants that produce hashish and were derived from areas such as South Africa, Southeast Asia and South America, but this information can not be assured 100%.

We received 5 seeds from this Northern Greek line through one of our clubbers with the intention of being recovered, studied, preserved and shared. In turn, thank the original source, a grower named Fat Rasta who was the first to obtain these seeds through a very reserved family from the north of Greece in the area of Serres, Macedonia, which they claimed to carry between 60 to 100 years cultivating this same strain.

During our first studies we get 4 sprouted seeds resulting in beautiful specimens, with a ratio of 3 males and 1 female, this gave little margin of selection, but without fear we decided to try to perform a first flowering test with all individuals for see its stability and quality. The result was no surprise, since we had already been warned that with some probability this old cultivar could show some specimens with hermaphroditic traits or show some intersex flowers during their flowering. Of the three males, one was completely hermaphrodite showing both male flowers and female flowers with what was quickly discarded. The second male did not achieve optimal flowering in which to release pollen, most likely due to high temperatures, but it was in the third male that we found a specimen with very good characteristics; strong and branched structure, leaves with leaflets of medium-large size and marked serrated, with a high production of viable pollen. The female had more elongated leaflets with a bit less marked serrated and a small difference in the size of the internodes, these being slightly longer, some aspects coming from those sativa genes mentioned and that provide a superior yield. During its onset of flowering some male flowers appeared in some internodes that were easily eliminated by hand and later proved that they did not continue appearing, this gave us a chance to recover the line and also try to clean some of these traits. We offer you exclusively for VIPs the first reproduction to recover this line that we have made as we usually do with our landrace lines. You can find homogenous plants with strong spruce structure and well branched between 60-70% Indica, genes that most likely come from the Middle East area. With good production of flowers as well as high quality resin. Flowering time between 8 to 10 weeks. Rich bouquet of sweet lemonade aromas, noble woods and church with hashish background. The effect is uplifting and leaves you in a balanced state between activation-relaxation, entering in a very pleased mood. Already in these first tests, we have detected that it is a strain that does not likes high temperatures. It will be specified more in the following tests. Enjoy now this landrace and new addition at our VIP store.

Strain: Athina North Greek Landrace
Strain Type: 1st Gen. Serres Mountain, Greece
Type: Regular seeds (male-female)
Flowering times: 65-75 days, mid Oct.
Yield: High yielder indoor and outdoors
Bouquet: Sweet lemonade, noble woods and hashis
Effect: uplitfing, well balanced
Breeder: Locals (GR), Fat Rasta(GR) & Charles Darweed (SP)

From thasos island

From thasos island

These came from a most generous friend in Greece.
From thassos island, two weeks in flower nice little bushes. Not much stretch going on. Red almost purple stems on both, little diff structure and leaf pattern. Gotta love exotic genetics!
Will post updates,

'Athina Sativa' given away as freebies a while back by fat rasta @ sanni3s

Story goes he wanted to buy some seeds from these greek growers but they decided not to sell them as its family heirloom

He buys couple oz from them and ends up with seeds anyway by accident 14 seeds or something

Fat rasta reproduced the strain in greenhouse and donates to sanni3s... free 5 packs with sanni3s orders

opengrow.com has a few threads about it but I cant remember where that story is exactaly...it may be from another forum

https://www.opengrow.com/topic/51358-fatrastas-athina-landrace-greek-or-not/

(this is greek family heirloom not really landrace)

Thats a very strange starting place for pros like TSC

It is something that looks interesting but you think they could get more than one 5 pk to start with..lol

Thats a great looking strain and I guess it only started with 14 seeds or whatever fatrasta found in the first place......

Thanks to fatrasta for making these available... see how the testing goes for TSC seems like a strong plant!

That same NE greek strain has been cultivated by generations at altitude, central Greece,to give a taller in statue plant, with a more euphoric high to it.A"red highland variety".Any photos of the seeds from NE Greece,I wonder?
Three different strains
:)
P.S the Thasos strain, propably resembles more the NE strain, geographical location of island

A few days back, first two licenses where granted, for cultivation of pharmaceutical cannabis in Greece.Greenhouse cultivation, two different locations in Greece.
It's a positive start. With general elections coming up in 2019,whatever the outcome, legalisation wil follow. When that happens then Greek people will be more at ease with their strains
It's a political decision,a brave one, but when that happens, the taboo that older generations have created around cannabis, will go/disappear :)

I like variety, and,its nice to have some greek seeds ,but not only.....Do not particularly want to spend time in any breeding program, either.I will be getting seeds out of them though:)One female would be nice from strains never exposed before

Would assume plenty of 'Greek landraces' would be traced back to northern africa and middle east! Greeks first came across Ganja in Egypt, their first introduction was vapor baths of Ganja which was common during this time period!

Red23 the seed I had looked much like the ones you showed. Small roundish and pale. Only had two, both germed and are female.
Here is a recent closeup.

Good evening guys ..! I have the honour to share with you a smoke-report of @delicorganic’s Kalamata Red variety.
First of all, the seeding took place outdoors at the end of May in Peloponnese and the harvesting in early November..
Generally, it showed strength on high temperatures but also on the first chills. The most important? It didn’t get affected by caterpillars and mites .!! Additionally, the plant did not need lots of fertilizers..!
The produced quantity was sufficiently decent and the quality just amazing.
Unfortunately I did not have the luck to get the red phenotype ‘cause of the small number of the plants, but still I am fully satisfied.
When you see it, it’s full of crystal .!! Even the new generation hybrids’ breeders would get jealous on it !!
About aromas and its high it’s the typical old-school Kalamata.
The aromas and flavours of the variety are earthly for sure..
Wood, lemon and and a very strong hash smell that gets through your soul and leaves a crisp taste and a perfect hashy aftertaste.
Now about the high which is the most important:
Very uplifting and active (I use vaporizer). Every time I smoke, my head gets benumbed .!! For sure I will stand up on my feet to do something with full consentration .. The perfect “anti-depressant”, you never get bored .!!
Of course, you must not underestimate one of the two phenotypes I spotted .. If you smoke a lotthrough the day, you get really high, almost trippy but in the pleasant way of it.
Congrats @delicorganic for your work on the seed and congrats again ‘cause this variety worths to be preserved and saved, to be known to the majority and to seed it around the Globe.
It’s a honour for me that I tasted a local variety and not only I didn’t get disappointed (like many other times), but I got exited and became my first choice on high quality products.
You keep a high valued treasure in your hands.
Congrats my friend! Keep on the way you do ...

Yes i found book in net sources said.
A 17th century historian, Eulogio Efendi, reports
that in Constantinople there were more than 1,000 beer shops and 104 wine distributors but only 60 places where hashish was sold and smoked. Thats only source and documents. You simply can google his name and will see what kind of history he write. And you will find nothing. Cool name between he have Eulegio but Efendi possible never exist. Other good source is of course Marco Polo he fight dragons and unicorns. Very trustfull source.
Turkish never smoke hash in the past my country was 500 under their slaves. I will say end.

my friend,
the history "res gestae", is based on observable data... not bizarre personal opinions

I had written a half-page on the history of the use of opium and cannabis in the Ottoman Empire... but I clicked back and lost everything... c'est la vie

anyway...

an alternative to the enigmatic Eulogio Efendi, is the Ottoman writer of the 17th century Evliya Celebi:

in Istanbul there was a class called iqff-ı bengciyan (esnaf i bengciyan). They were preparing and selling preparations containing cannabis, such as syrups and pastes in the shops of Tiryakiler Bazaar (tiryakiler çarşısı) in Suleymaniye district. In his time, Evliya Çelebi noted that these merchants had sixteen shops and sixty people worked in this sector.

The writings of the Italian doctor Luigi Mongeri are also interesting.
In the text: "Etudes sur l'aliénation mental en Orient: Causes de la folie - l'Esrar" of 1860, provides a detailed report on the cultivation of cannabis and the production of hashish.

the quantity of literary sources on the use of cannabis in the Ottoman Empire is vast...

for example the poems of Kaygusuz Abdali.
Poems that show how marijuana was commonly used in the 15th century Anatolia.

...or the writings of the Italian princess Cristina Trivulzio Di Belgiojoso, who was exiled to the Ottoman Empire in the years 1850-55, and had kept travelogues about her encounters there, provides a testimony of the open nature of hashish use in the Ottoman Levant:

The use of this narcotic is widespread in Syria. If you meet a man whose eyes are dull and unsteady, whose face is lean, lips pale and thin, be assured that you are facing a hashish eater or drinker. If you see two such men facing each other at the table of a caf!e, blowing clouds of smoke at each other without saying a word you can be sure that those two types are in the middle of a hashish orgy. If anyone offers you some sweets or some sherbet be careful: there may be hashish hidden in it.
