Great Inline Fans

bought an s&p Td-100 about 9 months ago and well I woke up this morning to my thermometer reading max temp and no fan on.. sad to say it looks like my fan just burnt out.. They are said to have a 5 year warranty, but who knows what that covers... bought it from hvacquick.com too... oh well, I'll keep ya guys updated on this to help better the ratings on the fans.. :-D if bad service no good rating if good service fan is still got my 10 out of 10 rating .. :p

EDIT::: Well I got a hold of the customer service at hvacquick.com and couldn't be more happier with their support. They filed it with S&P and replacement is in the mail tomorrow.. no questions asked and not even a need for me to return it back to the company! WOW amazing!!

10 out of 10 for sure :-D

sunleaves windtunnels are garbage to let you guys know. mine died in a year and made the worst absolute noise while on its deathbed. 4 inch 200 cfm, thought it would be good, garbage. my HO canfan 6" made far less noise. peace smoke.

I have a 6" S&P Powervent Silentline fan and it is incredible.

So quiet.

I live in a condo and I can't hear shit in the next room.

with a fan in the same room could one hear it with just a small oscilating desk fan? tv on some of the time, other times music?

would 1 of the td 100 would take out 420 watts of cfls in a micro cab of like 3 sq ft 28 inches tall

With a scrubber my td 100x is hard pressed to handle my 250 though it is at the lower speed (100 vs 135 cfm) I don't know that a small desk fan would drown it out but, it would easily serve as a patsy. Show people the noise and the noise disappears.

thats exactly what i wanted to hear thank you freezerboy! either cover or a patsy, maybe my desk fan could drown it out, that f*cker is loud,it vibrates inside plus has a huge WHOOOSH kind of sound , definetly louder then one of those box fans

Has anyone ever said what fan controllers work with the S&P TD series without making weird noises? Will the $20-30 ones they sell on the hydro sites work (forget the name).

Also, I think a TD-100(x) would suffice, but I'm thinking of going with the TD-250X turned down. Am I correct in thinking that the larger ducting would be quieter? And also that the 250X turned down to near 100X CFM levels would be quieter than the 100X at full bore?

This is going in a fairly large cab hidden in plain sight (think corner armoir). I was considering the Panasonic Whisper line but the the fan itself seems awkward to integrate (versus an inline) and I certainly don't care to be replacing a $100 fan every year if it can't hold up to 24/7 operation..

I plan to vent my 400w hps through a super sun 2 using smaller axials and a sealed airway path, and then using the S&P to vent the room through a carbon filter. I was thinking I could get away with less air exchanges (like 1-2 per minute) this way, since the heat should be mostly taken care of by venting the light separately. Flower cab size I'm aiming for about 8 sq ft floor space and 6 ft of height or so. There will be a mother & clone area sharing the armoir space to vent as well, but I haven't decided how exactly I'll be routing all that and if I will need to carbon filter those areas too. Plan is to send all the air through a sort of triage space on its way out where some ONA Pro Block can be placed, and if needed a small ozone generator as well. Stealth is A+ priority as the cab may have to stand casual encounters within a few feet without raising too much suspicion, but given the $$$$ going into starting up, I would rather plan for expansion and overdo a few things. Nothing like buying a $100 non-returnable fan only to find out its too weak and you need another $150 fan.

I can't tell you about the "ones" to which you refer that are sold on the hydro sites, but I can tell you that last night I hooked up my TD-150 to an S&P speed controller and it worked as advertised. I don't know that I'll ever be able to turn it down because I'm relying on the fan to pull through a filter AND cool a 400w cooltube. We'll see.

Here is where I got the speed controller. I got the cheapy SC-15 and it totally works:

Thanks. "Speedster" was the one that's common at the hydro sites. Just couldn't quite pull the name out of memory last night. :joint:

Can anyone tell me if when you hook the speed controller up to the fan and drop the speed down, is it the controller that causes the hum or the vibration of the fan at the lower speed? Someone mentioned further back something about cheaper controllers causing a hum so it got me to thinking... my mixflo is quieter at high revs then lower mainly because the hum it creates when the speed is dropped drowns out the whoosh

Hey Batboy,

What about the moise level of the TD-150 ??? Any comments, high level, low level ???

Peace !!!

I have never before been in the presence of a running 6" inline fan (the nearest hydro store doesn't run any fans), so I am a very poor judge. Also, I have only run the fan out in the open; my cab isn't ready for it.

So, having said that, full power sounds pretty loud to me, but I think that most of the noise is rushing air. I feel that a filter and ducting on each end will change things alot. I doubt that I could ever hear the motor over the sounds of moving air. Time will tell.

I just bought a 6" (150mm) mixvent s&p td500/150,
I dont understand how to utilise the two speed motor. There is no switch,
there is a little arrow saying 150 aligned to another arrow is it something to do with this?
Thanks in advance

Inside the box on the side of the fan where you hook up the wires there are two different connectors you can use for the hot line - one is for the high speed circuit, one is for the low speed circuit. If you want to be able to switch between them it isn't hard to wire, but you'll have to do it yourself.
