Good strains (or strains widely used in breeding) that are NOT chem, OG crosses

I thought Nevil (Sensi) was the original breeder of NL? Maybe I am remembering wrong...

I did the NL#5 from Bodhi. I believe he used BCSC's northern to make the seeds. I got some really pretty plants with huge buds, but the smell and taste were nothing special. I only popped like 4-5 seeds though, and only had 2 females. So I still have more Han half a pack to go through.
I did Nirvana's northern too. I only grew out half the pack but I didn't get one plant that looked anything like northern. One "female" didn't even grow any buds. You have to run higher numbers of nirvana though, from what I remember, and search for a good pheno.

I was thinking about running that PCK from ACE. Does anyone have any experience with it?
Seems like it got some pretty good reviews.

The GFxBB looks great too, did you guys have any issues with hermie's with her?
Is the GFxBB basically the same thing as Sweet Tooth? I loved the sweet tooth back in the day...

I said I was told it was the "original" and put "original" in "quotation marks", so I thought it is obvious I wouldn't weigh the "original" too heavily.

Fact is that in this "industry", let's just call it a business...
In the seed business it is often quite difficult to say who did what and got which "original" strain, hence the myriad of discussions, as u mention.

If not original, they can certainly be in the discussion from what I was told (i.e. from a lot of reading, granted, maybe not the thread you linked, maybe from a few years ago).

I wasn't going to read up on the northern lights atm, just stumbled upon some info recently and thought it might help the OP.

The main point of my post with advice to the OP was anyway that once he decides on a "good for breeding"-strain which will usually mean a "as "original" as possible"-strain, and say he decides that strain is Northern Lights, then the real quest for "the best" or "most original" Northern Lights genetics start.

And as you impressively demonstrated, that will be a heated depate and rustle some jimmies no matter what.

TedNugget there are quite a few test grows and journals of ACE seeds here on IC mag.

Not 100% if PCK is among them but I would think so.
Anyway, even if it isn't, the reports and info on anything ACE seeds you can find here on IC mag seems to speak volumes. And you don't really find anything negative said about them anywhere else either.

I like reading the stories and "histories" of strains I've enjoyed.I don't care about Internet fighting and drama. Cannabis makes me happy. Hope you find a NL or strain you enjoy no matter where you find it.

there is a whole wide world outside of the Chemdawg, diesel, ogkush, cookies family tree that is very trendy these days.

There have been other major trends in the past such as the skunk, nl, haze.

There are strains outside of those lineages as well on the commercial market although most strains will have at least a touch of those genetics in them or at least from their direct parental lines.

sometimes it helps to describe what you are looking for out of the plant to know where to look.

Honestly, right now all I'm looking for is a good tried and true strain, preferably more on the indica side of things (as I have problems with anxiety that too strong a sativa can make worse sometimes). Something that is still available to order seeds of, and those seeds are still producing quality plants.

I have been having problems with these real tiny hermaphrodite looking seeds in a lot of the buds (that are just impossible to pick out).
So I am just trying to get away from anything bred from any type of hermaphrodite lineage (like chem/OG etc etc), because it seems to me like all the plants with this problem all had chem/OG somewhere in their lineage. So I just wanted to eliminate that variable to the problem (for my own piece of mind if nothing else).

I just want something that isn't hermaphrodite prone and doesn't have tiny seeds that grow inside the calyx whether it was pollinated or not...
(Again, this is discussed in more detail in my other thread in the Cannabis Growing Questiins section (in the thread titled "Please Help")

But I will describe some things I like in a strain anyway...

I am all about a great taste. And a good smell if possible. Also, a relaxing high is preferred. I don't like the "up" weed as it makes my anxiety worse. I don't care about super potency or anything. Everything these days is strong enough for me.
I was thinking of ordering some purple strains (for the taste), but I need to do more research first.
My number one priority is correcting this tiny seed problem though, which is why I was so vague in what strains I was looking for. I am willing to try anything that grows reliably well from a pack of seeds and doesn't have hermie tendencies.

KappaRoss - that is a good point, to look for a breeder that doesn't produce a ton of strains and really focuses on just a few. A friend of mine used to say the same thing - to go with breeders that focus on a few strains. Thanks for reminding me of that advise! lol
Oh, and I'm not looking to breed anything at the moment. Just trying to hunt down some good stable strains available in seed. I don't have the room to run big numbers to find keepers.

Although I've not grown them, PCK & Maple Leaf are highly reputed lines with the kind of effect you want.

The Yumbolt I grew would also fit in there. Quite unique with an excellent old school flavor all its own. It's a slow vegger w/ low stretch & the buds shrink when dried but it's still well worth growing for head stash.

Mandala's Rishi Kush might be something you'd like. It's under rated & under sold with nice smooth effect & good potency. It's easy to regulate the high- not too strong or creeperish. It's my wife's fave of what I've grown over the last 3 years.

Both are easy to grow & mostly self supporting.

off the top of my head ... bubblegum from personal experience is great for anxiety. I heard you can find good things in serious seeds BG people were recommending to go through a couple packs and to look for a stinky male for breeding purposes.
