I grew up in NYC & it's all about the food.......

Top end to visit once, an awesome meal in Times Square:
Plataforma Churrascaria: Brazilian Rotisserie Dining.
316 W 49th Street (Between 8th & 9th Avenues)
Fixed price but all you can eat.

This will cost you between $80-100 per head depending on your drink & dessert selection but you will know that you've eaten like a king, their salad bar rivals the full menu at most restaurants including shrimp cocktail all you can eat, some meat and seafood dishes meant to be sampled and of course about 40-50 salad dishes. Once you're done with salads those dishes will be cleared and the side dishes you've selected for your meal will be delivered, then the all you can eat meats start arriving at the table, all rotisserie cooked by brazilian master chefs, friggin' awesome. big bragging rights and you will forever crave this dining experience again. ahhh nyc such a sweet place. born there, but moved at 2. visited quite often. i stayed at my aunts in great neck the past 10 years, so i would take the long island rail into the city. i always loved that train, grab a few tallboys in grand central, then drink'um in peace and the cars have bathrooms
last visit was 09, before that was 07. what i do is just get a dugout and cigarette one hitter, and walk around the city smoking that. in 06 me and a few buddies went for the 4th. got a half of nycd that was 2 huge quarter ounce stinky stick resin coated buds. later that night i got super drunk and scored a g of some pure yay. good times in nyc!
i love the city, but yes, its very crowded and expensive. im not a big people person, but at least the large crowds help you blend in.
as far as food, anything is available and its almost always goooood. you guys and suggesting katz made me go out and get some pastrami and rye. you have to get some while you are there, and some pizza
