When I ran coco , I hadta order pallets of the 5 kilo bricks of the chunks , stringy/pithy fibers and chunky perlite was available local at my county co-op for the perfect aerated mix with 5 gal smartpots fed dtw once a day ....

Being the old tightass I am I decided to re-use as much of my old medium as was possible , but I hadta find a way to get rid of all the gozillion roots in the containers while cleaning the fabric containers as well......enter pond enzymes....

With 4 locations , 8 rooms , and 512 plants total , I got some Rubbermaid cattle troughs cuz they had bunghole drains and were big enough to hold all 64-5 gal smartpots full of medium and rootmass , and after every run , they`d sit in solution till all dead root matter was digested and all fabric containers looked brand new when pulled , along with the useable 3 part medium that was then left to dry out after draining the tanks for upcoming rotations....now....

Bioslime as it`s been identified for you is totally preventable by using small powerhead pumps in the rez to keep solution constantly moving and from falling outta suspension/precipitating....and...

Back when coco was in it`s infancy , us old heads found out if our R/O water was mixed with 1/2 tapwater , the residual calcium and magnesium would help keep the medium`s cation exchange capacity/CEC in check without as much cal/mag supplements that raised EC and no Bueno , while keeping solution more sterile , but I digress...

Inline pumps ....I ran 325 gal pest control tanks with sur-flo big ass pumps on the outside of each rez so as to keep rez temps cool where algae couldn`t form , but I grew in basements with the rez`s on concrete slabs , and I think the Z7 shit you found is a godsend if it helps you dial your setup cuz environment is everything.....

Waaaaay more important than how much light you blast their ass with , and rez`s outside grow areas are mandatory to prevent heatgain in the solution that promotes algae bloom/bioslime if left to grow and proliferate , but.....

I`d be willing to bet that if you incorporated 1/2 tapwater for your nutrient solution and can work out the ph and ppm`s for dialage , that with a small powerhead pump running 24/7 and a lil chlorine/chloramine in minute ppm`s , you`ll need less of your Z7 , and hey.....

Look into the barley based pond zymes for saving and preventing wasteful and unnecessary disposal of medium.....and lastly....

Getchas some SM-90 for rootzone protection as well as rootborn critter prevention @ 5 ml per gal and you`ll be well on your way to coco dialage Aspen....anyways....

That`s 26.29 ozs. on my redneck scales for your total weight , and 3 gal pots are fine for far bigger plants with multifeed sequences every 2 hrs.....HGO was pumpin out 8+ oz plants fed several times during lights on in lil bitty 1.6 gal containers , and consistently run after run , not a fluke....that said....

Keep rez`s cool , powerhead pumps for constant circulation , SM-90 , with 1/2 R/O and 1/2 tapwater , plus the pond zymes to eat dead matter for medium recycling , and you`re on your way to bigger and better return on investments....bet on it....

Regardless....Killer job and major respect for doing your homework and due diligence in solving problems and getting past em FTW.....

Peace....DHF....:ying:....

Dan, do you run an RO that has a quantum filter?

A who Ona??

it's a filter that is supposed to provide anti-microbial effects to minimize the colonization of the storage tanks that apparantly occurs in many RO systems, if you accept what they say. here is a link to a company that uses one of the filters. i haven't got anything yet, i have no clue of this helps with bioslime etc. i'm still schlepping from the grocery store fro t Glacier RO machine with my backseat full of 1 gallon bottles. RO is my current 'trying to learn more' area. open to friendly suggestions btw.

you probably have one, don't you Aspen? your rig has, what, like 11 filters?

no it has 7....But it may have 8 in a bout a week...... but that may help keeping the res clean but what about airborne MICROORGANISMS? see as that clean water is great.... and your res may stay a little cleaner the surface of that water will be exposed to air in the barrel....... and your coco is always wet..... and always exposed to air.... its a matter of time type of thing Ona..... they get the Bio Slime in perfectly sterile lab conditions...... it cant be prevented only fought off...... when it happens...... Good question and great find on that filter...... thanks Ona..... hope this was a good answer......:tiphat:
