every place i've ever lived in & grown , the tap water has been over 300 & salty as fuck because of the road salts they use in the winters here . so i've had an RO system sence the start ! wouldn't grow without 1 !

Yeah me either hah!, 200 gallons! You aren't playing lol! I'll have to show you a pic of my whole house filtration I have, then have an RO that would prob almost do 8-10 gallons a day lol.

I feel lucky my tap is great! Of course I'm a soil grower so it's a little more forgiving then you coco/hydro growers

when i moved in here i bought a new system . i went with the Stealth system from the hydro shop & another small boy system as a prefilter . theres so much salt here that i replace the prefilters every 3 months , just to keep the main RO system clean . been her 15 months now & have replaced every filter once already . including the RO membrane.

Fuck, my tap is 1.6, I use it to buffer my RO.

growing in coco & having salty tap ..... i'm not adding back any salty tap water to buffer my RO . a low dose of calmag or my base nutes buffers it just fine & its good to help charge the coco too .

perfect crowd for me to ask my questions.

I started my grow with V+B R/O. My understanding is that I should not need to add magnesium or calcium. Is that correct?

When I add 0.5 tsp to a gallon of R/O water with a pint or two of tap to bring it to the recommended starting EC of 0.3, I end up with a final EC of 1.3 +/- 1. Is that what you all feed at?

Is adding tap with an EC of 1.1 an appropriate way to bump up to 0.3 before adding the V+B?

Are you going with the rest of their line, Push, Shine, Life?

thanks for any guidance. I'm trying to draft off of you all's experience

Take care,

Ona

question #1.... with most strains you'll not need to add Calcium or magnesium but it is strain dependant.... I add 1 TSP of epsom per 5 gallons, for the GORILLA STRAINS there total Mag whores...... won't green up without it...

question #2 you kinda lost me..... but why add tap to ro? we use ro so that we can control every element we feed.... that seems counter productive IMHO.....
Ill use the .5 ppm scale here to better explain. for me the .5 ppm scale is much easier for me, because it's what i learned to use and test, So i still think in terms of ppm and maybe that will help you out.. EC is universal so i use EC here to communicate with others....
Simply to avoid confusion. but ill use the ppm scale here because i think it will help you the most.....
so here goes... i start with a clean 5 gallon bucket, first thing i do is measure the parts per Million, and you will never find 2 PPM on a EC conversion chart. so i test that bucket with freshly made ro and Its 2 ppm all the time but l like to be sure. Then i add epsom salt 1 tsp per 5 gallon bucket, then test, It reads (these numbers are not my real numbers i'm sleepy trying to help another rookie out here so bear with me... lol)
55 PPM so this tells me i'm adding 53 PPM of epsom for the magnesium, now at a total of 55 PPM now i add my V+B RO i dont measure at all... I take a spoon full out and and with the water in the bucket moving i tap my finger on the spoon slowly and bump the V+B in..... The Max PPM i use on my GG4 is 700 PPM .5 scale or 1.4EC, say my PPM is now 355 after that spoonful i just repeat always stirring and slowly adding the V+B then test, Add, Test, Add Test sometimes i hit the number (700) and sometimes it's a bit short if i over do it a little i add more ro and test...... till i find 700 PPM .5 scale 1.4 EC.... hope this makes some kind of sense..... I normally make 20 gallons at a time, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes and Ona all of this is for not is your PH isn't on point you're in coco 5.8 - 6.2 and no higher.....

question #3 STOP STOP STOP DO NOT FEED THOSE PLANTS 1.3EC or
650 ppm.5 scale you will cook the shit out of them...... and be shopping for new cuttings tomorrow...... 1.2 is max for VEGE Plants you probably shouldn't be using more than .7 ec for the time being.....

Sorry Ona for yelling at you on question 3...... LMFAO

NP, I'm looking for know how from thems as what got.

On the second question, I was referring to using tap to bump the RO to 0.3 before adding the VnB. I guess I should have just asked, "Does everyone actually raise their EC before mixing in the nutes and if so, what do they add to get to 0.3?"

Thanks to everyone for their answers.

V+b has an incredible amount of cal and plenty of mag and a good charge of sulfur. It has more of each of those than I gat using my base (maxi) + 5ml of cal/mag.
It does have a high ratio of cal:mag tho iirc.. there's a little room for mag if you got a hog

Good description of the mixing process tho aspen

Things are moving and grooving here! Looking good

I using nothing but GH Cal/Magic for my buffer on this grow, the tap is way high in salts. I had been using it for my buffer on the recommendation of Canna Tech support. But I get much better plant response to Cal/Magic. I use canna coco and they say you do not need to charge. Second grow using Canna coco and it seems to be fine without charging.
