GIRL's GOT SKILLS

I'm a lot smaller than you but I don't actually keep a mother per say. I take extra clones each grow and toss the old moms and replace with the clones when rooted. I keep 2 clones as new mothers each grow. For me it's easier than trying to bonsai a mother for long periods.

Smaller?? RR you kill it so size isn’t so important as quality....

I throw that chick into flower after I have a new clone of her. Who wants a old lady in their grow. Nothing but fine young chicks in my grow.

I do the same and look at it as preserving genetics more than keeping mothers. I have two rooms and two pot sizes. Veg room I use small pots that hold about 1/2 gallon. Flower room gets 2.5 gallon pots. Coir in everything.

I rotate between 3 different strains and keep 3 of each in the veg room at all times. I put 4 plants in the flower room.

I take cuttings from the aerocloner and put them in the small pots. I get 100% rooting (knock wood) from the cloner so just add one extra safety cutting to each cloning cycle. If the plant I'm cloning is next into the flower room, I root 8 cuttings - 4 for flower, 3 for veg room and one gets tossed. If not next to flower,

Plants in the veg room start to get unhappy at about 6 months old. I do extra cloning runs if my "mothers" start looking tired and start 3 more.

This keeps "mothers" small and easy to take care of and provides a reasonable amount of redundancy.

Like these other guys have said it is easier to just keep making clones as you need them. I have 2 aerocloners, sometimes I just let a few clones grow in one of those, they'll get pretty big in there to where you can take some really nice cuttings. I just add water and maxibloom as needed. I think the hydro plants usually make nicer clones anyway so that's a good strategy. You can also get pretty good size plants in party cups. When they start tipping over just cut them up and repeat. It's a good idea to only try a few different plants or seeds at a time or it can get to be a lot of work.

Thanks guys.. keep the mom info comming nutrition and training is what in looking for... how to keep so much N out of the moms... to make for better clone rooting... I’m not sure I’m ready to cut the safety net and go momless.. that heathy plant means a lot for my confidence... so I kinda need a good mom and keeping them healthy is a must...

Just use maxibloom all the time. Even for veg. Also the best cloning agent I've found is "dip n grow". It is far superior to clonex or the cheap powders. Literally every cut roots.

I treat all my plants the same. Same nutes, and media. I only give my little clones some extra shit for root development. Only difference between flower and veg is amount of light.

I run plain Maxi-bloom for both veg and bloom. For clones I use 1/2 strength nutes until I see roots out the bottom of my rockwool cubes then right back to full strength.

I don't keep moms longer than 8 months. I Don't have the space for them. New cuts are taken. Rinse and repeat.

My older plants are very picky with PH changes. If I keep my soil to wet it screws them up. I make sure there dry before I water again. This leads to root bound plants pretty fast. My older plants to better for me with less frequent waterings. By 8m they always seen to get pissy so I take cuts and cull them at that point.

i too like the rinse & repeat method.

& there are times ill grow a mom out to take 25 to 30 cuts.

& there are mothers that i'll root prune and re-pot (or even up-pot).

as far as nutrition... i like to treat the feed along the lines of the lucas method.

of course, a little fish emulsion & great white never hurt either.

i prefer softer stems for cuts so i never feed my moms any silica.

ive had the original blue dream since 1990. so keeping mothers is important to me.

plus, keeping strains you like around as long as possible, if not forever, is the mark of a savvy gardener.

Hiya Aspen,

Waterfarms work great for keeping mother's. Just change out the water every two weeks and give them a simple veg nutrient and all gravy.

How is the cleanup from the storm going down there ?

This made me cringe hard I aint gonna lie lol, But im a freak of nature when it comes to doing things right...Good info on silca in my signature. Cuttings taken from healthy vigorous growing plants root faster in my experience (~7 days usually).

Some other things to ponder:

Have you checked out the Whats the oldest clone in your stable thread?

bro, respectfully, cringe all day, woody stems take longer to root.

and, we're discussing moms. not cuts. woody stems on mothers i just dont like.

and and, i'd never put bleach in my cloner unless i was cleaning it. thats what h2o2 is for.

we can agree to disagree. im happy with that. i like silica only for veg & early flower. thats it. plus you use it and have to bring the pH down. plus it doesnt mix well with nutes. personally, i use it as a solo feed

for cuts, roots excel my friend. best of the best. worth every penny. atami makes a great version too. real simple method. K.I.S.S.

you aint rooting sfv og in ~7. nobody is.

Personally for mothers I wouldn't rely on a hydroponic method. If that pump goes out there's a risk of losing the strain. I myself for moms like 5 gallon smartpots of promix and every 4 or 5 months take new mom cuts and flower out the old one. I don't like to waste a good plant lol.
