GIRL's GOT SKILLS

Made it down to the docks today @ 5:30..... We had some heavy weather this morning and last night. So we teamed up with 4 other instructor's from the shop, on our boat and canceled our recreational dives that were scheduled, called up some of our dedicated students that wanted to advance there skills and went diving...... The weather was roiling in heavily at the time.... the Gulf was so mixed up, 7 foot waves and wind 30-40 mph blowing us all over the boat..... it took all 6 of us PRO'S on the boat 30 minutes to set all 3 anchors in 88 feet of water..... Down below wasn't much different.... Swift cross currents and Zero viability in the upper water column for abort 60 feet then below that there was about 15 to 20 feet of decent viability...... The Shitty conditions and dangers made this mornings dive ..... Well Thrilling..... And Excellent to train the next batch of Rescue Divers...... All six of the students have never dreamed of being on the water in these conditions...... By the end of the trip all 6 were seasick but they were troopers and stood in there and finished their lessons passing All the Skills test.... Needless to say we were the only boat out this morning, we each had full rescue and navigational gear on with epirbs gps location and strobes..... it was scary though..... its so very easy to get turned around... Basically the most dangerous water conditions a person can Dive in.....

Being all 12 of us were on Epic our 26 foot Cat guess who got the honors of diving first? Yea me and my girl dropped in first to inspect the conditions and all 3 anchors........ on the way down in about 35 feet we got knocked around by god knows what.... they were big sharks of some kind..... most likely Bulls on a hunting party, they hit us about 6 or 7 times each knocking us apart and into different Micro Currents caused by the storm..... We dont usually dive full face mask with coms but we did this morning and that was a great idea.... About the time i hit my com to tell her to turn on her anti Shark Leash they vanished into the murky waters, we used tank sounders and strobes to find each other, once we got back together we hooked our BCD's together and continued the inspection all 3 anchors were burred to the shank..... once back topside we were told we were gone 48 minutes for what should have been maybe a 10 minute dive. we both knew that but found everyone on the boat geared up and testing their gear ready to come and find us.....We did about a 40 minute dive with our students and made a run for the docks.....

I have always wanted to swim with/near sharks in open water. So cool you get to, and are comfortable enough to actually do it. My wife wouldn't even get in a boat , let alone water with sharks in it, lol.

Oh i love sea life, I love sharks but i know how to deal with them two..... Training and experience, goes a long way. but that was scary as hell..... not being able to see them.... and when i say they hit us.... that's what they did, that's why we think they were Bull's...... have you seen a big bull knock things around an arena with its head? Bulls will knock the hell out of stuff and figure out if they want to eat it or not. On the decent we were holding hands, the one that came between us and knocked us apart was at least 10 - 12 feet long.... that close and unseen..... honestly there was some fear..... When they start to chomp... or snap there jaws you can hear and feel it in the water that means shits about to get real...... when i herd that i had just pushed one down below me by the nose, my left hand was on its back when i hit my anti shark leash..... then it took a while to find my buddy and get to the bottom.....we were about 65 feet apart as best as we can guess but we couldn't see each others strobes at at that distance..... we had to use our tank banger to find each other.... But man what a good time...... really made me feel alive...... and revived....

Almost made you feel dead too. :help::shark:

no i dont think so.... I wasn't scared of the sharks.... I couldn't deal with the currents and the sharks at the same time...... it was like being inside a blacked out washing machine.... with 6 to 8 big sharks playing beach ball with me.....I'm all bruised..... up all over.... I try not to use the Anti Shark Leash..... but when i herd them clicking there jaws it was time to end that problem and deal with the micro currents.....Find my Girlfriend finish the Job and get the hell out of there......

no just some good equipment...... I'm very at home in the water though.....I just dont see it that way Packer.... Im A Diver I play in there environment...... given all the times i have dipped into that world and encountered them.... Ive been knocked around maybe 15 times by bull sharks..... I know they dont like to bite people, if we would have had tanks on instead of re-breathers that would have never happened......they dont like the sounds the bubbles make.... the water was so turbulent they couldn't hunt so they played with us a while..... I was sure they were Bulls even not being able to see them by there texture size and actions.... the clicking made that more less a sure thing... Sharks are only a threat to divers when we cant see them..... Being in the water and seeing them there easily pushed off even if they try to bite you..... They cant all be Great Whites...... those you piss off and they eat a steel cage to get ya..... But Bulls and Tiger Sharks knowing them and how they move through the water and that the tip of there noses are there weakest points along with there gills...... Its not hard to out think them but you will never out swim or maneuver them.... You have to out think them become one with the water and push off of them, pull there heads off there given direction during that maneuver and they will shut there mouths, then slide along there bodies and they have to circle around.... Sharks weigh everything in there lives on how much energy it takes to eat...... will it be worth the shark to keep fighting when at heart they are scavengers not most of the time...... that's why so many people survive attacks the sharks let them go..... the vision.... is not the best in fact you can drop blow them and remain unseen altogether but the sensory system in the nose is highly evolved...Knowledge a cool head And have a Damn Good ANTI SHARK LEASH!!!!! Its not nerves..... i dont think...

Yea being on the Gulf is that way..... How did you do in the tournament.... We did have a pretty day after it moved out but I sat by the pool and had to chill for a while..... Those kinds of waters wear you out quick...

We caught 4 keeper fluke, some small fluke, a schoolie striper, a skate and a sea robin. We went out 4 guys and my other friend didn't want to fish.
It's pretty easy to win a prize from this contest and I won a sweet surfcaster pole and my friend won a sweet pole as well. My brothers boat also won prizes too. One of my other friends won the runner up pole in the raffles which was a custom made pole!
