Getting rid of coyotes and bobcats

I have never killed any animal, but live in new area which is crawling with coyotes and bobcats, and have 4 small dogs. I am using wolf urine in beer cans hanging from fence around property, and not sure i that is working well enough. I saw a number of groundhogs and rabbits everyday, and have not seen anything in weeks, so they could be prowling in the overgrown vegetation all around my property.

Any suggestions on how to get them to leave the area?? Have plenty of rifles, which are cumbersome, and would prefer not to use. If I see either looking at my dogs like food, I will have no problems blasting them. Considering a small accurate pistol, but not sure exactly what to look for. Someone was attacked by coyote walking dogs during day recently in area. Already have some 9's, but they are not very accurate especially beyond 25 feet. Any recommendation would be appreciated.

Also considering high powered paintball gun or bb/pellet gun to try to encourage them to get the F out, if I see them anywhere near property. Not sure if I can get rubber bullets for actual guns.

Looking for any suggestions. Morons in state re-introduced bobcats, and now they are becoming a problem. Also our coyotes, some call coywolf, since much larger variety.

getting "rid" of coyotes is pretty damn near impossible once they have established a population. biologists have discovered that the more of them you take out of the population in a locale, the average litter size goes up because of greater availability of food. they play hell on small dogs & cats, and will corner & kill a bigger dog if they have the numbers on their side. lots of videos of this on youtube. trapping is hard because of free-roaming dogs getting into your sets. poison works, but same problems arise, and you kill a lot of other critters not intended as targets. judicious use of bait & targeted killings of offenders is about all you got. calling them at night with a red spotlight works well if legal (or not, lol) bobcats? they are not gonna bother most pets. they WILL eat hell out of the rabbits etc. "if" you can locate a coyote den site EARLY in spring, killing the pups on site with a hose & gasoline will knock the population back for a while. hard to do mentally though; the pups look just like German Shepherd puppies...i'm SUPPOSED to shoot them on sight, can't bring myself to do it. adults? they die...

^^ what the hippie said ^^ :) ... and why most places have removed bounties on them, an exercise in futility! Mother nature always knows what is best. Suburbia has encroached on their territory, what do you expect!

Livestock Guardian dogs (Anatolians, Great Pyr's) And my weapon of choice is a 410 shotgun. These won't sol;ve your problem, but they make you are harder target and they will look elsewhere for easier prey.

Coyotes do have institutional pack knowledge. If you can kill the bravest, that makes the rest of the pack shy away until a new leader learns all the old tricks.

since they are attacking pets and stalking during the day, that have started to get out of control in your area. But as most cycles, they seem to be at the top (all gopher and rabbits gone at the moment) they might start to leave, searching for better food sources.

Good luck, LD

You will need to start having dawgs that are big enough to fend for themselves. Nature is a cruel bitch, and those yote pups are hungry too.

Thermal vision rifle scope. Remote control, wounded rabbit call, a lot of time spent waiting, maybe a spotlight assistant - poor second choices.

we did not have coyotes here until a few decades ago. biologists say that the bridges over the Mississippi river greatly contributed to their spread eastward. very few (if any) bothered to swim the Big Muddy. i still have the newspapers headline about the first one caught in this area after some good ol' boys fox hounds cornered it in a highway culvert in Hawkins County. it was in the Persia community i think...

I live in the land of coyotes and road runners. There’s no controlling them and you will most likely bring the attention of “the man” if you try. Controlling your animals is a much better idea. People who allow their animals to roam freely shouldn’t be surprised or upset if they never return.

Glad you don't kill animals man! I even try not to kill insects, mosquitos included. They just leave me alone. Try to get rubber bullets for a rifle you have. Can't you get them online somewhere? Could also get a BB gun or pelet gun. I'd say bb gun for under 20 ft and pellet gun rifle if you're going longer than that. Stay cool man! Enjoy your home! Sounds awesome and free!

Just have to learn how to make solid fences & animal enclosures.

Need 6 to 8 foot fences, which would be several thousand to replace all the existing 4 foot fencing. Also fucked up town needs planning board approval for any fences.

Have small fenced in yard designed for dogs. Not roaming anywhere. Coyotes and bobcats can jump upto 8 foot fences or dig under.

Coywolves are in New England and Canada now.

They are just spreading into state now. Woman hear all her life never heard them before, and now says they are howling on the mountains behind her house every night recently. The fucking state released bobcats in the area a few years ago, and many people are losing pets, mostly cats.

Rifle is AR-15, so doubt there are rubber bullets for it. Was thinking of shotgun for skeet shooting anyway. If rubber slug for 12 gauge would knock the shit out of either predator, and hopefully would not come back. Lots of hunters here, so hopefully they knock back population in fall. Also thinking of bear mace spray.

Embrace nature. It ain't your job to "get rid" of anything that's native to an areas u move to...typical human mistake...respect the lands or move on

I leave my small dogs in the house when I’m not out with them. Watch them like they were your kids.
Coyotes get hungry. If they find food, you won’t scare them off. They’ll come when you’re not there. Chances are you won’t see them. That’s why LGD’s are so popular. A gun is rather useless.
