getting out of the city, any good counties in CO left?

hey whats up to all the colorado growers out there? So ya im looking to move here within the next 2-3 months and i need to get away from the city life. Been in the boulder and denver metro for four years, and its been great but i need a change of pace. looking to move out to the country, possibly mtns and wondering if there are any good counties left in the state for growing? anywhere without square foot regs? anywhere u can legally grow outside? hows the police is your area? I spent many hours reading threw all the county and city laws and it was a pain. keeping my options open as of now, so figured if anyone has a tip or idea of good areas i can weed out some unnecessary regulations to read

was thinking about moving to the pueblo area, because its cheap and maybe easier to find a place with a little land? but ive heard alot of negative things also. how liking would it be to get robbed in puebs? alot of factors at hand obviously

other idea was western slope or out east, but i really dont know much about life and everything out there. would love to hear from some peeps out there and their experience.

Feel free to message me if u want, if u want to keep certain info on the dl. i know how it is, especially with everyone moving here making it harder and harder to find a spot.

fyi. town of greely only allows flourescent lights for growing, haha not like ud want to live/grow there anyways but i just thought it was funny

Pueblo is a tough town, but probably not worse then anywhere else. Cost of living is lower there and the climate is very good for cannabis. There is a very famous (Marisol) dispensary there. I think Chong is slightly involved there. They named a strain of MMJ there after him. Personally I like the western slope as it is more scenic and also more rain there so things green up. Try to get in the further Western part as right by the mountains the winters are hellish. The Pueblo area is arid. The trouble with the western slope is it is old ranching country and very conservative. I don't know how pot friendly they are there but Pueblo welcomes the pot industry.

ya ive been to grand junction and a few towns in the area, definitely seemed like alot of old conservative types around there, wouldnt mind being closer to the hills tho, ive hear la plata county was pretty chill, not sure how the weather is there tho.
Ya i heard theyve been cool with dispos opening up, what about homegrows? one of the few places in the state where u can grow outside legally i believe but i still have double check that one

I believe the cities can ban canna businesses (including growing) if they wish. Some do, some want the tax so they don't ban. If you got the smokes you can bring them anywhere in the state because the state allows it, but you need to be discrete and not spark up in front of the LEO's. I'm not sure about small home grows but I think the cities can outlaw them if they want. I happen to grow a few MMJ plants in the back yard, but don't tell anyone. LOL

I guessed right. You can grow up to 6 plants for personnel use. Growing large amounts for a dispensary is hard because you need to know someone. Under Amendment 64, if you are older than 21, you may cultivate up to six plants for private personal use. Supposedly it is not visible, locked up etc. I am waiting for a test case about someone growing in the back yard.

I know that Pueblo has a pretty active cannabis community. Depending on what size town you are looking for you also have Colorado City and Walsenburg on I25 heading south from Pueblo. You might want to look up Huerfano County and see what that does for you. Otherwise I would recommend Western Slope as well but I'm not familiar with their laws. You have towns like Montrose, Delta, Glenwood Springs, etc. around there. I would stick your head in the Colorado Thread and throw up a link to this thread here. You'll get more active feedback.

!RA!

My jizzob takes me to Junction on occasion and I'd have to say it's a pretty conservative place surrounded by farm/ranch country (like CO Spgs with more farmers, and I'm guessing a lot more guns). I'd be pretty a-scared to grow anything in that part of CO. I do remember seeing a dispensary or two in Glenwood last time I was out there, so maybe they're a little more open minded. CO City and Manitou always have a pretty good vibe every time I'm there too.

screw junction, mesa county is backwards as hell - not to say you couldnt throw up a 60x20 GH out by loma/mack and do the damn thing. i've heard tell of big ops out in criag

remember: every where you go in CO state law applies and on top of that you have city & county codes; you have to study municipal codes (cirminal and zoning) in each county
sometimes (rarely, but unfortunatley increasingly so) counties put in broad restrictions also, iirc park county limited all grows to 35 plants, whether you are in city limits (where municipal code applies) or in rural/ unincorporatd areas

where you end up in the state has alot to do with what you do and what you care about and HOW you want to grow and how much $ you are working with

places that have been "discovered" like salida are high and hard to find a good spot - took a pal of mine a couple years waiting and watching and looking at different real estate options as they popped up in chaffee county. but if you can afford it that area is super beautiful, if yuou are into rockhounding, rock climbing, mountaineering, whitewater rafting, skiing/snowboarding.... i really dig chaffee county. salida is a drunk lil town that can really throw down (gets old but sometimes has that "fort fun" feeling), BV is more sleepy and mellow, areas between them could be ideal if you can get some water.
oh yhea, water. if you are buying any where in the state get a place with water (ag rights). if you are building or adding on consider grey water systems
i've been wanting to start a thread for outdoor growers to help understand the ditchrights and whatnot in CO, each ditch is different, but there are regulatory bodies that run each ditch - need a "water commissioner" to help you sort all that out.... figured some kind of documenting all that on icmag might be good - problem is i need some info for myself about them to post up first

you can always go east

imo the very best places are those that are still.... kept a bit secret, as OP phazer stated in first post. for good reason. loose lips sink ships - i've already said too much :D

and the fact of the matter is that you can do it ANYWHERE in this state just about inside or out, with a lil ingeniuty and variable quantities of liquid capital of course.

ya i know its such a pain, they really dont make it easy figuring out if your within the law. i ended up not being able to find anything that friendly last time and said fuck it, found a cool landlord at least, but ya if i want to do something outside i want to keep it as legit as possible. my neighbor threw up a couple little trees in the backyard last year, but i wouldnt want to jeopardize my indoor for a few plants outside. and city life just isnt suiting me anymore atm.

anyone ever have the cops show up after setting up a ghouse? i had a friend tell me that his buddies set one up in gilpin near ned just for strawberries and the cops stopped by and asked if they had their cards. back when it was just med, the good ol days.

ya i heard that about park county, too bad seemd like a great area to be otherwise. im up in bailey and conifer every week for work. or was at least, but its a beautiful place and was pretty grower friendly from what ive heard. 36 plants is the highest limit ive seen yet, most places keep you at 12 or 6 even, but thats mostly in the near boulder denver area. my town doesnt have a plant restrictions but limits to space.

hows gilpin county nowadays? ive been told that the sheriff knows everyone that grows in the county. is he cool? haha not sure if thats something id be willing to risk or how true could it be. whats he do? ask the electric company about anyone running a 12/12? i guess small towns the word can get out easy, but i live like a hermit pretty much. and try not to draw any attention. gilpin would be sweet close to boulder yet if u want to go town for concerts or whatev. also how is summit county for growing? bad.... i would love to snowboard a couple times a week

i've had police in a grow house, did not go good (could have been worse, like if i was back east) but overall was a major setback that i'm still recovering from a year and a half later (now).
many places limit space sizes also, bottom line is that there are enough regs in place that IF the police want to bust you they still CAN. thanks police lobby, thanks prison guard lobby....

if you look NOT in towns then only state laws (or county restrictions, which currently are less common than municipa restrictions) apply.

no matter where you go you, regs will follow you. so plan on keeping on top of how to follow new local restrictions coming down the line (at least) and contacting local & state officials and let them know that as a constituent you are against limiting patients rights to grow what is medically neccessary (their plant count IS whatever is medically neccessary as reccomended by a doc).

shit thats too bad. thats my worst nightmare that im trying to avoid. do u know what tipped them off? was that in the mtns then or where? dont need to be specific if u dont want. I know it seems like once u get down to the towns is where the regs started poppn up. and none have been friendly the grower. It sucks when i moved out here the laws were great denver hadnt even established strict growing limits yet. and by the time i got out of my deathtrap landlord situation at the time the laws had already switched over for the worse.

thats why im wondering is there any town that is still open to grows and not trying constrict their limits? i heard fairplay was cool with growers but thats in park county yet i believe, so not too friendly.

Does anyone know how it works for unincorporated towns? just have to worry about the county limits?

stay away from Nederland and Ward, and as mentioned the Gilpin County area.
They do have a list of all growers and homes using power.
there was a serious power supply failure and power outages were happening every other day up to 10x daily for 3-4hrs at a time.
So many growers came in to the area and destroyed the market and homes, so rents went up 5x, and the power company and the towns got together and started making a list back in 2011.
The Power Co put in new lines, transformers and poles over a 4yrs period and just finished.
Nederland has a master list of grow houses, I've seen it, my old home was on it, Chief Adler was the coolest cop, but still a cop. He would warn us all at the Back Country Pizza joint not to move large quantities because we were all under Federal watch.
and guess what some dumb fuck couldn't resist the temptation, a fed bought 75-80lbs from a out of state greedy grower who got busted.
We all watched it happen black 4x4's just like in the movies, then b4 that for the previous 2 weeks all the strange wanna be hipsters asking for nugs all week long.
We sold our properties over the next 2yrs and bailed after that.
Stay out of Nederland, Eldora, Ward, the whole 93 HWY area best weed grows there but not safe imo anymore.
Pueblo welcomes growers with open arms or at least they did last year.
Honestly CO is overrated for growers, it's an established market.
I lived there for close to 20yrs was one of the first 200 MMJ patients there in 2003 till 2010 when I dropped my card.
There are better opportunities elsewhere, but Avinash tells/recommends the best...

wow thats nuts. i could see alittle mtn town not being able to handle the influx of growers up there. thats the kind of stuff i want to stay away from haha. you no of any other counties like that obsidian? i totally agree CO is way overrated for growers now.

Ive been debating moving to another state, possibly the glove, its near home and half the cost to live and grow. but i do love CO for everything else. otherwise not sure of any states that are much better. any state thats had mj laws seems to be changing within the year or two. and usually for the worse. u have any other states in mind that havent had their laws butchered?
