Gas powered pump thread..

Okay, I really am curious, for what your doing is there no better and more stealthy way of pumping water? I mean, I've never used a gas pump for agricultural means, but I've done a bit of pressure cleaning and the gas pumps on those are damn loud. I mean, idk what kind of operation you're running exactly, but surely there is another way to get water uphill for irrigation, right? Doesn't it just sound really high risk to have a loud ass gas pump when you're doing a secretive operation?

I have a wx-10 I run at a slow idle and you can only hear it for about 50 yards or less in the dense brush.

Nightvision- I only paid $340 for my wx-10 ($315 before tax). Yours looks like it'll do the job though.

I don't know about your community but in my we can rent for like 50 dollars a day a nice water pump and then you bring it back the same day.

Why not do that.. you fill your reservoirs and then your good for the season.

we use a wx-10 picked it up with a service warranty of 2 yrs for about $400. im on my own parcel and have rights to the creek so sound is no matter. it pumps pretty quiet at half the rpm. you can only hear it for a hundred yards or so.a few years back we hiked one in a mile or so on a guerilla patch. ended up just digging and weatherproofing a good hole to stash it in out there and just carried the gas. it worked pretty well. i wish we were a little further out as some of the locals heard it , but they never found us. it was quiet enough that if we put ourselves between it and them we could hear them before they got closer than a half mile. we stayed pretty secure and finished the project. but i still wish we were farther out...lol
pumps lasted all season even in low water. just dont let it suck off the bottom.
love the thread.

Pumping garbage?

Then what type of application is a trash water pump for?..Im talking about pumping water from a stream/river thats 4 feet deep, maximum..

Kinda like this..
9463DSC00640-thumb.JPG

I dont want to stand in the middle of the cold stream holding the strainer up outta the rocks..It would be impossible to just set it on a rock, in order to keep it up off the bottom and away from debris..The stream's current moves way too fast..Theres sediment and debris constantly being washed down stream..The kind of debris that would hurt one of those little pumps..I cant immagine that the streams are too different up there in oregon?

The wx-10 isnt a propper irrigation pump for my guerilla growing needs..Its for clear, mucky slimy, and silty water.....NOT for high solid content water, like a high mountain stream. :chin:

http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/pumcho.asp( from the link you provided)
Note that the WX series is NOT for agriculture..

Read what it says about trash pumps..In a guerilla growing situation..A trash water pump is a irrigation pump..Just my two cents..As I am not speaking from experience, and you are..

I have paramount respect for yer advise, oppinion, and experience BC..I understand that you know yer pumps and dont mean any disrespect toards you..

Dude you're retarded.

The guy just gave you an example of using this non agricultural pump for over 20 years with almost no problems and you would try and argue with a fence post instead of listen.

I think his EXPERIENCE with pumps trumps what you think you know since you havent even used your pump for your intended purpose yet....

So stop arguing about pumps being for agriculture or what, as long as you get a decent stainless mesh screen for the intake, you're good.

Latest; someone found the pump hiding spot and vandalised it "hard" but didn;'t touch the chainsaw two feet away? Took it to the shop and its 270 to fix and a new one is 360 so new it is. Damn luck I had just spent 175 on it in sept. 2010. Now hidin' it in trees with a leaf covered camo bag and a trap, lol.
Went and bought the new one in time to collect fresh rainwater. I will get soaked but its the price you pay, lol. Several models have come and gone so check which ones have availible parts. Peace Bad...

A while back in this thread there was some talk of battery operated (12vDC) pumps. I've had my eye on http://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...ayers&cm_ite=2687?ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=2687 I think I will probably be able to set my sights up such that they are downhill of a water source. The only problem is, what if the water stops flowing when it gets real dry out and it's just puddles of ground water. Then I won't be able to use gravity.

Assuming there is no uphill to pump, do ya'll think that battery op pump I linked will push water 800-1000' horizontal distance through a 3/8" ID line? I need to fill a 300 gallon reservoir, and it's certainly not in my budget this year to spend $350 on that sweet Honda gas op pump. As long as it pumps, even if it's very slow, that's ok. Even if it's only trickling at a rate of .25gal / min, just means it'll take: 300/.25 = 1200 min = 20 hours. I'd probably just take my tent and a few replacement batteries with me, smoke some doobs in the afternoon, go to sleep and wake up next mornin and take off with res full.

But do you guys think that pump will even move the water, however slowly, a horizontal distance of 1000 ft?

id try digging a 2 ft. deep hole to place the pump in. cover it with a piece of plywood and throw sum brush on it. just make sure to line the hole with something ,and ventilate it good. I personally have never tryd it but ive seen it done.

Looking to step up my outdoor growing next season and should have a fair amount of money to invest. Currently have nearly 70 plants in the ground (check my thread out) and will do more next season. My plans are to 1) Purchase a water Pump to reduce time spent hauling and 2) Purchase an Earth Auger with a 12" bit to severely reduce my efforts at site prep.

So everyone is talking about the Honda WX10 quite a bit. I like Honda products, have two Honda Hybrid vehicles myself, but always like to save a buck. Looking for a new pump and found this one:

http://www.bigjacktools.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=103&products_id=246

Big Jack Gas 41cc water pump

Engine: 1-cylinder,2-stroke,air-cooling 1E40F-6
Displacement: 40.2cc
Flow: 15 m³/h
Suction length: 8m
suction port diameter: 25mm
Discharge port diameter: 25mm
power: 1.45kw/7000r/min Way of ignition: CDI Lift: 30 m
Water outlet diameter: 25 mm
Packing details:
Meas.: 380x290x380mm
G/NW.: 7.5/7 kgs

For $125 Bucks, seeming like a fairly good idea. Any thoughts ? I would need to pump approximately 600 ft (200 flat and 400 at a slight/moderate incline). Think this would do the job ? Any thoughts/tips/tricks would be most appreciated and you WILL see this put to use next season so your advice will be useful. Thanks

I recently got a sweet deal on a Honda 3" trash pump. If I put a fine mesh on the suction should help w/ debris (pumping from pond, but its really deep).

Its a 5-6hp motor. Anyone have any idea on how far these things can pump? There isn't much of a slope for it to go up, maybe 1-3 feet total.

I'm hoping it can pump 500+ feet.....

Ya ya it says its for diesels or dirtbikes, but ultimatly its just a device for air to pass through/resonate sound. I have a muffler from a car modded on my quad to make it run silent, so the above should suit your needs just fine. Im sure you could find a dirtbike silencer cheap second hand.

i have 2 similar pumps and you are not supposed to run them more than 30 min at a time. i used mine to pump about 700 ft horizontally.
