I guess it would help if I had read the first page of this thread before posting, lol. Your shit is dialed this year! Get some!

Organicdisciple, right on bro. Two seasons ago when stepdad let me do my own thing was the same. The yard you see now was about half the size. He had about 12 big plants and he let me do 10 in 45 gal smart pots in another space on the property. Worried about limits and neighbors complaining. Each year after he just seems to wanna go bigger so I'm not gunna complain hah. I've been checking your thread along with many others. Looking good my man. Plants look healthy! My first year my partner wasn't really there to help me so it seemed like a lot of work. Just like your thread title. It sucked balls! Small gardens can be fun instead of feeling like a job lol. I don't like to make too many comments unless I feel I have something to share. I don't consider myself an experienced grower and have a lot of the same questions I see on here so. Best of luck brother.

I heard that my man. Thank you very much for the kind words. I could probably 10 girls by myself. Lol. Any more then that I'd want help. I still ask for it with my 8 from time to time. I try and help when I can. But it's very minimal lol. Good luck to you as well !

Negative on the mulch. Haven't talked him into that investment just yet. It gets pretty dusty out there mid summer. I know the mulch would prevent that a bit. He'd water less as well correct? What works best? I see straw used a lot.

Alfalfa straw is rich in N so won't rob your soil of it while it decomposes. Will keep your top soil very alive and healthy and provides nutrition while it decomposes. Mulch helps prevent soil compaction and keeps soil cool. You will also be watering allot less. It's very beneficial for your plants and you. I get bails down here for 15 bucks. Covers allot of space. I put it down about 3-4 inches thick myself. Lookin good! What's that last pic of? She's swellin fat. I like that

A 3lb bag of cover crop seeds from buildasoil is like 22 bucks. A pound of cover crop seed should cover around 900 sq ft...It's relatively cheap and the seed mix contains mostly clover which is an excellent nitrogen fixer. Broadcast the seed, let them grow out a bit, then chop and drop em. The soil microbes and worms will take care of the rest. I'm using rice straw and cover crops this year for the first time and my soil is looking much better for it.

The straw and mulch also help to keep the soil from compacting overtime due to watering.

Hey sacramental, Nice garden, I'm looking forward to following this one. I cant tell if the plants are raised up a little bit, mound style. If not watch out for water pooling around the trunk. It's a easy way to get crown rot.

Right on!
Glad to see my thread catching interest. I'm gunna try to get some cover crop/mulch goin. The holes aren't perfectly spaced but Noomin pretty much has it right. I'd say spacing is from 5-7 ft. From center. I started everything too early I think so the plants are gunna grow right into each other. I had them under 18 hours from early on. Moved them into the gh sometime in April where they were under 16 hours. Everything outgrew the gh pretty quick so I moved them outside where they get no supplemental light. Some look like they are starting to flower a bit but oh well.

Calisun,

Plants aren't raised only looks that way I guess. No issues yet but I'll have to keep that in the back of my head.

Ryte on dude. Thanks for the speedy reply. Mine were also on 16/8. Have you experienced and early flower? Something I should worry about?

As far as supporting these bitches I haven't figured that one just yet. Last season we threw cages at the end and kinda let them stretch through. We were a little late but did the job. I'd like to throw some fence posts down and stretch trellis netting across each row. Maybe let the plants just grow through the net? We have old cages but not enough for this many plants. Plus I didn't like how hard it was to work on the inside of the plants with the cages. Looking for alternative methods if anyone has ideas. I like this setup very much lol!

OrganicD, Right on yeah we have a few looking like they are starting to stack up a bit but I'm hoping they snap back into veg soon. I'm not too worried about them growing slow lol cause I'm sure space is gunna be limited come fall. Probably started them a bit too early.

BigD, We ran pvc plumbing underground to each hole and box. We fill up 50 gal barrels and run it to the plants. I'm looking into those 275 gal. Food totes to save us even more time. Maybe you can see in this pic.

Calisun, I see how it looks like mounds now in the last pic. What happened was I got off work and I was tired as a dog. Some of the holes didn't get dug deep enough so the plants stick up a bit. Good thing now you say crown rot? I'll have to watch out for that. That's when you over water the stalk or what?
