Um you might want to do some research into African societies and then work out why they arent one homogenous blob, ie one race and one united country and then work out that probably 80% havent even heard of movies like the Godfather or Goodfellas and then work out that being enslaved for centuries and bought and sold by fellow Africans to slave traders and the hate and alienation they have continually suffered to this day, and then you might want to work out why and how gangs are formed. A gang structure is a microcosm of a government, it governs things more on a local scale, but keeps the weak repressed and in fear and paing their dues (much like how your boss threw coffee at you, that was just to let you know you're being watched and your days are numbered)

and to me these kids are just trying to be like their favorite black rapper

And the irony of this is cataclysmic, KKK members of yersteryear would turn in their graves to see their sons and grandsons worshipping their very own whipping boys.

and yeah I have studied about gangs in university and how they form in societies. Basicly gangs are an alternate option for individuals that feel like they can't be a part of or succeed in maintstream society. If they don't think that they can get a good job or get an education or get respect legally then they turn to gangs

These kids aren't gangsters though lol, it's more like a fad or fashion thing they are a part of. Like emos / metrosexuals, these are the "gangsta kids" they like to wear baggy clothes and bandanas and talke like you know what I"m sayin fool.

In actuality, the alternate option is to succeed in 'mainstream society', which is actually alot harder to do than to be in a gang. Most middle Americans(EDIT: there a lot of of very well educated Americans that most likely despise the position the rest of them maintain on todays society) are buffered from the reality of the rest of the world, ie the majority of the worlds population. This is where you get your idea that gangs are an alternate option, actually they are the rule not the exception.
