anyone know what the purpose of the first condensation chamber is (after the pot still but before the condensation coils)?

To make 2 distillations at once. So u need only one heating per mash to get the high % stuff.
that is a "doubler" or "thumper", potentially increasing the % of alcohol produced, and can be used to infuse the shine with flavors as well. making one is next on my list of improvements. carrying flavors from mash in the still to bottle is iffy at best, and adding them later is not satisfactory at all IMHO.

My first thought is, I'd rather be the guy holding the ladder than the guy on the ladder. My second thought is, it was probably the guy on the ground's idea. I can just hear him, saying "Go on, I'll hold the ladder."
