Freebird sucks, so does Stairway....

Damnit!!! I just got off work (finally got a job!!! And no drug testing!!!! ) and we listened to the radio all day, again. Well, the past few days have been great, at least the days when we listen to the rock station, new country is the weakest stuff around. Usually it is great, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Black Oak Arkansas, Humble Pie, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, shit like that. Of course, every 15 minutes they have to play a song by the Rolling Stones (can't stand em!!), Aerosmith (I HATE EM!!!) and Led Zepplin (way overrated imo). Meh, this would not piss me off so much, if they gave some variety. Oh wait, it still would. I have heard every song by those three bands way too many times in my life time to ever really care about hearing them again. If I never heard another Stones, Aerosuck or Zepplin song again in my life, I would be rather happy. But today was an all request day. Fuck me running, you would expect to hear shit you usually don't, like some Focus or Yes. Oh no, far from it.
After hearing Freebird for the second time in as many hours, I started to get pissed. Oh and then we have to hear Stairway to Heaven twice too.....all the while, people calling in and saying those are the two best songs for people that love guitar. Give me a break!!! Freebird???? If you hear it once, you can sing it all the way through. It is not even that great. The solos are...ok at best. They do not do anything really spectacular, except play a decent speed. But no, everyone has to be retarded for it. And Stairway to Heaven, hell no. I absolutely hate that song, I did the first time I heard it even. Way too repetitive, and just crappy. The best song my ass. Child in Time is a lot better, hell...Deep Purple is a lot better than Led Zepplin.
I am just fed up with having to hear Rolling Stones, Zepplin and Aerosmith every day, when shit like Focus hardly ever gets played. And I am not talking about Hocus Pocus either, although it is the jam!!, but other songs by them. Eruption, Anonymous Two, Sylvia...all quality songs. Or Emerson, Lake and Palmer, or plenty of others.
I realize a few people are not gonna agree with me, but it is how I feel.

i'm not really much of a fan of anything that gets played on the radio, and I don't really like classic rock much either..... And country...I won't even go there.

But I do like "freebird" alot...but I don't hear it more than about twice a year

on one radio station where i live i can usually predict the next few upcoming songs in a row. Radio nowadays isnt very imaginitive. Theres another show that they mostly talk and play like 5 songs an hour. I sit there and wonder how anyone could think they are funny, they sure crack themselves up though. The best part is when people call in to tell them they suck.

alright.. you've stumbled upon a touchy subject to alot of people. zepplin and skynard are pretty fucking good bands.. but just like mass media always does, it ruins shit. once you start hearing the same exact songs on the radio everyday, except in a different order.. it starts to suck.. zep and skynard aren't really overrated but overplayed..

sometimes you may overhear a conversation between two 50 year old guitar center employees that sounds something like "yeahh, i got this zepplin record from 72' and its even covered in robert plants shit! great fucking deal!" and you think to yourself what the world is coming to..

Overplayed yes, I can't argue that. But I have heard every Zepplin song put out on any of their albums. I had a friend that literally only played LZ. It was so annoying. They are, pretty average I think. I also cannot stand the way what's his face, Paige, does a run. So damn sloppy. The guy sounds like he is trying to pick to fast for his fingers. Now Ritchie Blackmore, there is a guy with some chops!!
I do like Lynyrd Skynyrd, but I can not listen to them anymore. I am totally burnt out on them. Maybe in a few years I will pick up an album and play it, but not anytime soon.
I can listen to the same Yes song everday and still love it, I guess it is just because they are truly great.

daisy's parents once (while we were smoking a joint with them) said Rush sucked ass. The radio was on, and 2112 came on and they changed the station. The changed to Whole Lotta Love, and started dancing. "Now this is real music!" Sorry, but no....

Now Anonymous Two (26 minutes) and Eruption (23 minutes) by Focus are great. That is a band that knows how to put on a long song, without getting boring halfway through. Same with Frank Zappa, his songs King Kong and The Adventures of Greggary Peccary are incredible and also quite lengthy. The man does not disappoint.
Same with Pink Floyd, Atom Heart Mother Suite blows the shit out of Freebird.

Hell, Skynyrd's main influence, and without them you probably would never have heard of Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers Band knows how to put on a jam. Mountain Jam, 30 minutes of jammin.

I love me some classic rock, but don't have as much knowledge of the "less commercial" bands as many of you guys. I will say that just because something is played on the radio, it doesn't mean that it sucks. Sometimes I even have to stop thinking too much about the music and just remember to listen to what sounds good.
But hearing too much of something will ruin it for you. Just how it works.

When I lived in NY, we went and saw Lynyrd Skynyrd at an amusement park(early 90's, I think?). Well, anywho, they played Freebird and started with the guitar solos and drum solos and what not, so we decide to go ride a roller coaster and come back in few minutes when it's over.

We get back probably after 15 minutes or so and they are still playing Freebird!!

To this day, I still try and figure how they turn a song with about 3 lines worth of lyrics into a 30 minute stage show.

That killed Freebird for me. I cringe when I hear it on the radio now.

It probably would be different if it was Ronnie on stage instead of Johnny, but none the less, Freebird is now the musical equivalent of getting kicked in the nuts for me now.

your right tarkus...the radio does blow...zep,stones,skyn...overplayed for sure..although i was impressed with that zep dvd that was released a few years back...
i just stick with my zune player...been downloading year by year(option to download each year beginning with 40 something) since 63.put it on shuffle..man songs i never heard of.and artist..quite entertaining.
luckily for me, at my work you can listen to head phones...

Man your radio stations sounds like heaven to me. Our stations only play three bands, Aerosmith (no talent junkies), Guns and Roses (No talent white trash junkies), or U2 (Self righteous talentless chumps). Best part about listening to the radio is the fucking commercials.

All you folks bitching should just turn gay and listen to Cher all day long. There is more than one station on, switch it. Find some oldie station like I do and groove to Paul and Paula, Tom Jones,the Beatles, Elvis the king and even Cher. After listening to them for a couple days you will forget about Zep-stones,etc. or else go running back gladly.

Oh pops, I do listen to the oldies station now, but sadly they are following suit. They are playing more and more crap that just plain sucks. U2?? What the hell is that no talent shit doing in the rock genre?? They are so horrible, I really despise them. Not a single song worth a crap.
I have pretty much stopped listening to the radio on my own, except the classical station. That is just nucking futs. They play some awesome shit, every hour. And I love Hearts of Space (made a thread, no one came), it is a tripped out fucking blast!!!
I like to jam Pandora.com, internet radio. It is great, a lot of stuff I have never heard before. I remember way back in the day, well not way back...maybe 10 years ago, 90.1 (pretty sure) used to have a kickass blues show for a few hours. That was awesome. They have another one on Sundays in the morning, and it is good too. But the old one was great.

I would just like to hear some good shit on the radio. I love music in practically every genre (not rap, remember I said music, not wannabe poetry), so I should be easy to please. But no, no.

While most djs are incredibly weak, it is clear channel who chooses the playlists. At least on their stations, which are far to many. It is the same damn playlist everday, maybe mixed up a little. I am so fucking tired of crappy stations.
