No more goddamn hydroton rocks for me. Christ, those things made me crazy, cleaning tons of them was bad enough, stepping on them as they rolled all over the floor and bounced all over the place was worse. Crunch crunch crunch.

SO, now I've gone the way of the pool noodle. I was able to get some very pretty colours too. Purple, yellow, lime green. All sliced in flower shapes. Aren't they just precious?? LoL :biglaugh:

Obviously they didn't have black or white and winter in Canada is not the best time for pool noodle shopping.I'll be populating them with clones within the next couple of days, and we're off to the races.

My tubes have now taken on a very fruity look to them, but anything to get away from those bloody rocks is just fine by me.

Pardon the mess, I'm still building things in there....

BluntItUp, they're actually a lot stiffer in terms of holding up the plant, and I use a layer of netting above the plants to keep everyone upright anyhow, so even If I used nothing, the trelissing would take care of that.

How you gonna start your seedlings now? I used your soak THEN towel method...worked great...(saw you advise another grower in a post...stole the idea)....just curious how you'll do it now...or is the noodle just for clones you've propogated with no r/w?

Yeah, I'll do the clones in a couple of DWC cloners and transfer them usually. However, in this case, since the main system is empty, I just pop the clones into those holes and turn on the machine. For rooting clones I keep the misting cycle at 1 minute on, every 5 minutes, then reduce that as the roots propogate.

Seeds I do in rockwool, but I haven't done seeds in ages. I may start up some Mental Floss for the next grow though.

Lother all this time lol.If my dwc was using 3" nets i would just use neoprene collars.

I believe you are using the 3" nets correct? If so they have the 3" neoprene collars thet fit them perfectly. But it appears you have a solve for it just letting you know the same neoprene collars they use in the ez cloner is perfect for the job and keeps light out pretty good.

The main reason i am saying this is because the flower shaped pool noodles you have look as though they may allow some light through.

Just thought i'd throw it your way seeing tme ruffled egdes may allow light to pentrate until the plants fill in the space.

Mine are 3.5" actually, and I looked at the neoprene cups and the hydro store wanted $2 each for them. At 250 plant sites, plus mother plants, plus DWC buckets, it worked out to about $600. The noodles were a total of $60, so that leaves $540 for beer.

Need I say more.

Plus, the neoprene doesn't look like pretty flowers.

Nuff said then :)

All i can say is that your local shop is over priced.

Here a link for the hell of it.Even with the cheap prices here at this place it would cost over 240$ just for the ammount of neoprene collars lol.I guess thats one of the problems with 500 plants lol.Or maybe i just am not used to shopping for 500 plants hehehe.

That's one of the mothers tokin, I just left it there next to the system while I was moving other stuff around. It's in a DWC bucket. I've got a cab with others and one off site for clones. It's about 8 months old I think. Hopefully I can get lots done tomorrow and she'll get the haircut she so richly deserves.

I always thought you were a little "light in yer loafers", now we have proof ... !!!

All you need is a stuffed nardsofdank on your wall holding an Orange Lighter with some Phil Collins playin in the background ... !

Mwuahahahahahahaha ... !!!

Right on Lothar, I agree hydroton can be a pain in the ass. I keep thinking about switching over too.

One thing that keeps confusing me though is what do you do when your clones are small and they're ready to be put in the pool noodle? Do you just plop them in the hole and let the leaf branches stop the clones from falling through, or do you fill the hole with something so it gently holds the clone in place? Keep up the good work.

That's the idea exactly icough, the same thing I do with my cloners. I use large holes in them so I can get the roots out, so it's the same deal.

I'll post pics as soon as I do the clones, which depending on my regular workload tomorrow could be very soon.

I switched to mediumless with this grow myself. Best decision I ever made - hydroton is such a PITA.

Germing seeds for mediumless is easy. Soak 24 hours in water with a couple drops of H2O2. Put seeds in a cup of pre-wetted perlite, cover, & put in warm spot until they come up. Remove cover, put under lights, and keep them happy. About 9-11 days after coming up, they will be ready to put in a cloner-size bubbler. I use lukewarm running water to rinse the perlite out of the roots and put them right into the bubbler. Works great!
