Sparobis- An organic grower who really knows his shit (pun intended) has an amazing Organic Soil Mix based on FF Ocean Forest that I've started using. I can't find FFOF around here but have access to Black Gold, so I've consulted him about how to make Black Gold approximate the Ocean Forest within his mix.
The Black Gold is peat, worm castings, humus and pumice and, in his opinion, all you need to add to that is guanos at the rate of 2 tbsp per gallon of BG.
[EDIT: Please note that I'm not claiming that BG w/ guanos added is the same thing as FFOF... I'm saying that within this particular soil mix given to me by this fella, it will work just about the same and not throw off the ratios of nutrients too much.]
Keep in mind that you probably wouldn't want to grow in JUST the Black Gold with guanos added. His mix is just based on that... and then has compost, bone meal, blood meal, greensand and lime added to it in very specific ratios.
Hope that helps. Black Gold is very good stuff. The only thing I'd prefer over it is the Ocean Forest.
garlic city gro, one thing to remember with any ferts less is more it so ez for one to add more but getting it out of your soil is a whole different matter,I use the supernatural products on my plant always at half strength and always water with plain water on the fourth watering. But they are salt ferts so not organic just my two cent and of course I am from OG so take it with a grain of salt. peace and be safe dequilo
Hey canine thanks for stopping and giving evryone that lives back East the tip it sounds like they desperately need a cheap source for high quality soil.
Thanks for the tip Dequilo. I used to run a flood and drain system in hydro so I know all too well about nute burn. My biggest problem is being to conservative with my nutes because I am afraid of burning my plants.
Nothing wrong with OG at all lotsa great info and people over there. The only thing is I think they need to start a daycare for all of the kids over there.
"Nothing wrong with OG at all lotsa great info and people over there. The only thing is I think they need to start a daycare for all of the kids over there" truth to that, I hear you about feeling you do not use enough but as I say a little goes a long way with ferts.I always feel if you watch you plants you will see if they need more nutes for me it all has to do with getting tuned in to your plants. If things are good they grow if not they don't for me it is about that ez, I grow with soilless I use pro mix HP and add more perlite as I like a fast draining soil, I have taken pro mix and given it a shot of osmocote time release fertilizer and gone the whole grow like that and had super plants in the end (I did hit them one time in flower with a high phosphate fert). The best of luck in all your grows and be safe my friend Dequilo

Right on Dequilo I am right there with you on everything you say. The most important thing is to know your plants and know what and when they need them.
You are growing some very impressive plants my friend. They look very tastey.
wow now thats nice very well done my friend thanks for showing us.it's hard to tell others about what you have done wrong.but to thoes that are humble ture and great things will flow !!!!!!!!!!!! well done man
Thanks for stopping in IBC! I wish my camera didnt blow, so I could show off the super fat foxtailed colas my babies produce when the soil is dialed in the right way...
Foxfarm has always worked very well for me both indoors and out. It is expensive so I mix it with Miracle Grow Pro Potting Soil + Vermiculite (~30% by volume) perlite, worm castings, bone meal, blood meal, magnesium sulfate, mexican bat guano (for veg) and Peruvian Seabird (for flower) and hydrated lime.
I currently have a "double B" grow in progress: D.J.'s Blue Moonshine and SOL's Blockhead. They are indoors under 400 W HPS in their first full week of 12/12. The soil is very rich and I have had to do little but water and add the obligatory Thrive Alive, Superthrive and Maxicrop. For ferts I use Earth Juice and Foxfarm TigerBloom. All fed at a ph of 6.
The soil is suporting them fine with little need for direct fertilization. The soil is ph stable and the plants are all very healthy.
Regarding the BM I have a question for Sunnyside and preflowering times for the Blue Moonshine.
I have read your Moonshine threads with much interest and I am wondering when your starts showed after going to 12/12?
The plants have been at 12/12 for exactly one week today.
The Blockheads have all shown by now. I started 5 seeds, 4 popped and they are all ladies.
I started 5 Moonshine, 4 popped. One was chopped since it was a dwarf-mutant pheno.
The BM is growing great and looks fine, but seems to be lagging behind and has not shown ANY 'orientation' either male of female.
Update.
4 weeks in bloom and we see a bit of yellowing and red stem coloring on the lower fan leafs. This is a sign they need N - so they will be fed all this week hoping to make up for what the plants are asking for. Not bad though - 4 weeks in bloom and they are finally hungry! Oluwa is getting real fat and is acting more like dad than mom. Very interesting
@ROCS - my only comment would be miracle grow is certainly not organic as far as I know. We have sampled meds grown using hydro methods and using chem ferts in dirt and have turned into an organic geek. This is my first test 100% organic.
This summer we will be growing a full garden salad in dirt - organically - to replace any store bought that we would have needed. Did it last year and had great success... even made some seed stock from our favorite Field Greens . We may use FF alone and feed a bit more regularly, or use FF in a recipe we have seen.
Thanks for the update IBC . I have had a bit of a PH prob with my current grow, but I fixed it by cleaning my reservoir and making some new RO water. PH mo at 7.
Don't knock Miracle grow that stuff kicks ass. The only thing I can find that I don't like about it is that all of my bud when in jars curing have the same sweet bublegum smell, even my serious skunky ones.
Keep us posted on your progress I need all the help I can get with organics.
