Do plants in flowering stage use more water? I noticed my soil is getting dryer in less days than when in they were in the vegetative state. (day 21 of flowering, 5 gal pots, ffof soil, 42" height)
Oh yes, they generally get very thirsty for weeks 3-6 of flower. Sometimes soon and longer. Depends on the strain. Best thing to do is increase the amount of water during each feed so you can stay on the same general watering schedule. Just more water at a time.
Unless you like to water more often with less at a time, that's fine too.
Thanks Kr@ken, thats where I'm at 3 weeks, just noticing soil getting drier sooner, plants are fine so i guess at least for me it would be easier to increase frequency. Was watering about once every 4-5 days, gonna go every three now. I've been using fox farms tiger and beastie blooms about half strength every other watering, think i should stay with that or would i be risking nute burn?
They only get thirster when the plant grows a lot and it's getting rootbound or they filled up most of the pot and is going to be rootbound soon, they already rooted the most in the first 2 weeks of flowering if those plants get more than 1 foot taller you should think about transplanting if they are a long flowering strain.
THat is the only reason why they get thirster is when the pot gets more full of roots and thus you have to water more...... At that point you want to make sure you get enough run off at the bottom. Not dripping but run off every time you water; plants that size need a lot of water and if you water when a few drops of run off comes out, you are not watering them with enough water.... so make sure you get about 4 to 6 oz of run off everytime you water to ensure they are getting plenty of it.
hydro is much different from soil.. hydro ya they take up a ton, because thats what they basically live off of.... with soil it's different; but it's weird how soil and hydro how the same plant can adapat to different growing conditions differently.....
