WT, no way to truly tell the make-up of the well water without extensive testing.
If your gut is telling you calcium burns, call some local fishstores and ask if they have calcium test kits in stock. Should be around $20 give or take.
Then you'll nail it, or know it isn't calcium.
GPD is gallons per day, but that can be misleading too. What you want to focus on is the rejection rates of the various size membranes.
75gpd membranes from FilmTec offer the highest rejection rates for personal membranes at between 96-98%
All the 50, 100, 150 etc gpd membranes top out at 90% rejection.
I prefer 75gpd systems for the rejection rates with allows my DI to last longer. If I need more kick, I add another 75gpd membrane and change the flow restricter out. Think of these like lego sets for water, you can always expand, reduce, route, re-re-route and add-on infinitely if done properly.
