I was actually just checking out your thread a bit ago ....ACE seeds are going to be my next seed purchase/trade. I am really starting to really appreciate the Sativa side of cannabis.
So right now this is like 3 weeks in veg, maybe a little more. Wondering if I should cut off all the branches that aren't considered main stems or not? They will eventually reach the screen, they're just lower at the moment. Should I cut them all off and just try to train the tops across the screen, or do that in combination with some of these side branches to fill in any gaps? I circled some areas in red and those are the branches I'm considering removing completely now. They look nice and healthy though.
Last time I scrogged, it was way too late in veg, so had to do it a bit different than it naturally growing into the scrog. Last time I also felt like I left too much on, and I've already removed more than last time, but want other's opinions. Thanks in advance.
windycity, love your avatar. Fl thread looking in tip top shape as always gentlemen, carry on... I have some shots to upload, i post mostly on ig, since its so much easier but, theres no real point since my page is on private lockdown lol. I'll get around to it, obviously the pics wont be as nearly high quality or well taken as most of you guys...
Unreg, so you're using it more as a support than a scrog? Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.
From my understanding and why I'm doing it, is to grow the plant horizontally along the screen, turning the normal little side branches into tops through hormones that are sent to the most vertical part of the plant, which is the entire thing. Am I mistaken here in this at all? Thus, you should really cut anything that is below your initial topping point on the plant, correct?
To me, he has too much stuff below the screen in that photo and it's not a true scrog. You can see it's just used to spread out the plant, more like LST. There's lots of bottom branches that had to reach all the way up there to produce a small bud. I wish there was a way to quantify it, but I know in theory removing that branch early on should result in other buds being bigger. I also don't know how he avoids rot (he said he has a lot of fans), since that canopy is so dense, I'd thin it out a bit.
And as far as the picture, I honestly think mine seems better with 1 plant in a 2x2.5. Your thoughts? Mine was done way too late though, as in, the plant got too big before i put the screen on, but I still weaved the branches in and out to the edges, didn't just push them under and move them out.
Now that I see my photo, I kind of take back the thinning out comment on the canopy, but still think he should have removed everything below. Hope this doesn't come off as ungrateful, just enjoy the discussion and science!
Just befor the flip my ghetto lights, i swap out my 85w hp,to this led about a week or so after flip all this under net will be cut off by next week.
this is a cookies cross
FYI - if you turned those CFL sideways you'd get a LOT more lumens to the plants. I read a study comparing different positions, it's a big difference. If you're going to leave them pointed down I'd use the reflectors with the scrog combination.
