Flip/Flop noise? WTF?!

That's amazing, I've installed hundreds of these relays, never a problem. Here's the part number I have, NTE R04-11A30-120. There are other manufacturers who make this style, Potter-Brumfeld, Omron, etc. There is one other possible fix. After you removed the top part of the relay, you'll notice the center of the coil has 1/2" round contact with a slot down the middle. If this is off, and not centered straight across, that can cause humming too. Use a slotted screw-driver and turn it slightly if it's not straight across, even a small angle will affect it.

See now, there is no slot. The coil is sealed, so I can't clean it very well. There is no ground on the relay. I feel that it's just an inferior product.

I was thinking about filing the contact. Could that potentially work? When the relay is in use, and I push down on the top, the noise stops. As soon as I let up though, bam, noise.

Those relays ae not the NTE brand ones that I use. After installing hundreds of the NTE R04-11A30-120, not one of them has ever hummed. If you buy from Deltrol, I can't guarantee how reliable their relays are. All I know is the NTE relays have never given me any problems. Sometimes paying a little more for a quality relay is worth it.
