I don't use the roots personally. But I know the plant likes themDo you smoke the roots?
Nothing "gimmicky" about Hempy buckets, but of course you are going to contradict whatever I post.
I'm sorry LyryC ,but these guys are right . theres no need to add anything to straight coco in DTW pots . in hempys yes , you need the rez to be a lighter medium . but DTW pots of coco ..... no need for anything else in the pot . i've tried many combinations & i'm back to straight canna coco . cuz theres no difference in the growth rates or root mass at all . now if your reusing coco , i wouldn't reuse it more than 3x or it breaks down & becomes a mush ..... & that will hold alot more water & throw things out of whack . i use the same pot twice before i toss the whole thing .
coco has been used twice 50/50.View Imagestraight coco, great growth and why not, dtw, no more perlite, coco is all you need.
Pretty much perfect and faster than when we used Sunshine mix

I was talking about the root pouches being gimmicky actually. Have another read.
The truth is, hempy buckets alone will only massively increase your yield if the previous method wasn't being worked properly. It's the same with any aspect of your entire grow.
For example someone might say "I used a 20L hempy for a 2 week veg and my yields were pathetic and there were no roots in the res, in fact they specifically didn't grow into the res at all... hempy buckets massively decrease your yield for this reason"....
Straight away you can see the variables which affected the results.
If you choose to use hempy buckets, you must get good root development throughout the pot otherwise you won't get any benefit from the res at the bottom.
The same parameters apply to hempys as they do other pots. It's not as cut and dried as `hempys will massively increase your yields`.....
Like anything, they have to be used properly and the plant must justify the res at the bottom. You have to choose your pot size wisely with hempy buckets and you have to justify that res at the base otherwise it'll become prohibitive to the plant's roots and oxygenating it daily with water is just a waste of nutrients and needless pollution of the water supply.
You've alluded to the same thing yourself by saying your results improved when you went into a smaller pot and I'd also imagine you agree with most of what I've said above. So I really don't know who or what you're actually arguing with.
Hempy buckets have a purpose. But they're no foolproof guarantee of massive yields. No pot or system is. Everything has to be used properly.
Love learning new things everyday! Thanks dudes - interesting information. Seems all those extra bags of premade mixes are the real gimmick!
I have a fresh bag of sanctuary dutchmaster coco - but also left over perilite - whats the average hempie bucket size? 5 gallon buckets customized? mite try one out - but i'll be asking you, dan, later about how the GG came out in DTW vs Hempie
Out of curiosity when do you guys do your up-pots in pure coco to prep the girls for flower so they have ample room? What container size are you vegging in and then up potting for flower?
does anyone use rockwool for veg and then coco for flower?
And yeah IC - lets see that awesome room - and your beautiful babes! I hope the new genetics are treating you right!
Never have I read so much BS in one post. It's evident that you don't know how to use Hempys. I know how to use them and couldn't be happier, so I could care less about your obsequious sniping. Nothing but drivel.

It is too bad this thread went to shit.
