First Lady

I found this quote about First Lady by Mustafunk over on the 'Delicatessen Seeds Experience' thread in the Strains and Breeding section ... https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=259403&page=22

Thought it would be useful information to have here on this thread as well.

Sometimes I have the impression that they might be Early Girl or Pollyanna. Those were some of the genetics Clarke brought to Europe back then.

That's interesting! Early pearl was one of the first real sativas I ever grew and I still romanticize it in my head. I'd almost be scared to try it again for fear of it not living up to the memory.

First Lady - 31 days into flower, just under 4 foot, stretch seems to have stopped, buds now starting to fill out, pistils very pale green, sharp spicy and astringent woody (cedar ?) smells.

I am at 7 weeks flower under white LED on 9 hours 40 minutes light, 14 hours 20 minutes off. Some amber trichs, the top buds almost look done. I have to wonder about this strain being old Mexican, but the smoking will tell all.

My lights and lighting are not normal for most, that may have sped this up a week or two. I could pull it now but think 2 weeks will have it done for sure.

First Lady at 7 weeks into flower outdoors ... just on 4' (1.2m) tall. Primarily columnar growth with a few lower branches up to 18" (45cm) length.
Buds fattening up nicely ... looks like at least two weeks, probably three weeks until ready.
Nice old school aromas ... sharp, spicy and woody.
Lots of rain forecast next week, so the plant will be subject to a good test for bud rot during the critical last weeks of flower.

... and the rains came ... 350mm (14") over the past week, with another 50 to 100mm (2-4") forecast for the next few days !!

The First Lady has held up well so far with no signs of stress or mold, but I have some decisions to make over the next few hours. She would benefit from another week or so of flowering, especially if it was sunny ... but it is forecast to be rainy and cloudy for another four or five days.

Do I pick later today as we have had a break from the rain (she has some cloudy trichomes already, but doesn't look ripe enough) or do I risk the rainy weather over the next few days in the hope of then getting a number of sunny days in a row afterwards, so as to try and finish her properly ?? :dunno:

Don't cut her so that we will know how she handles moist:biggrin:

... ha, funny comment :)

Well baduy, you will be pleased to know I did leave her. A few hours after my last post, the forecast changed to only a couple of days rain, and then a few fine days, so I thought I would take the risk.

Rain eased off this morning, so hopefully we will start seeing some sun tomorrow onwards.

Unfortunately, I did have to remove a couple of buds this afternoon which were starting to show early signs of bud rot. They were about halfway up the main cola where the buds were densest ... the bud rot was not too bad yet, but when you continually have rainy days with 80% to 90% humidity and 20C to 30C temps for the entire 24 hour period, it doesn't take long for the rot to get out of control.

The rest of the plant looks fine at present, so if we get some sun to dry everything off and raise the temperatures, I'm sure I'll be okay. I will keep a close eye on her for the rest of the week, and make a decision when to take her down.

To put the First Lady's performance into perspective, I did have to harvest my Ace NepJam on Sunday because it already had some bud rot through it which needed addressing immediately. The NepJam has a good reputation for being hardy in wet conditions, and resistant to bud rot and powdery mildew ... although big dense colas and over a foot of rain with high humidity and high temperatures don't go well together at the best of times !!

In fact, the whole area is like fungi central at the moment ... mushrooms and toadstools of all colours and sizes are popping up everywhere ... which means it is also perfect conditions for the more problematic molds and mildew.

First Lady update ...
She didn't get the sun I was hoping for last week, but there wasn't much rain either ... just cloudy. She is still looking okay, although you can see where I removed some buds near the bottom of the main cola about a week ago which were showing early signs of bud rot.
However, some good sun over the last couple of days has helped kick her along, and I'm happy with the decision to not harvest last week. She now has mainly white trichomes, and only a few white pistils remaining.
More rain is forecast towards the end of the week, so I will take her down before the rains start again ... she will be just over 9 weeks into flower by then.
Very sharp fuely woody (cedar?) aromas.

Overall plant - about 4' high

Well I finally took a test toke, very small as I am cautious with new stuff. Quite sativa in effect almost all in the head. Taste is good.

Not really euphoric, not speedy, not very thought provoking but not dull at all. Mostly I noticed a visual enhancement. Colors are brighter and things look interesting. Was watching a movie thru most of it and tripping on the visual aspect.

So an up high without being jittery or very motivating. Visual things would be enhanced. A bit spiritual or contemplative not so much fun or party weed. Emotionally detached somewhat.

Yesum, thanks for the smoke report ... sounds like it is an engaging smoke if you want to be in your own personal space, but not so much for socialising. Did it seem creative, as in painting or writing or playing music, or was it more just enjoying external impressions ?

I'm looking forward to reading about your other upcoming smoke reports, as a lot of the strains you have been growing this season are either the same as what I'm currently growing or want to grow in the future.

Not sure what to say on that ^^. I was just content to chill out watching a movie so not real motivating but not couchlock at all. Either way I guess, do something or just watch the world roll by.

The high seemed a bit serious without being negative or anxious, but that could be my mood. I just had some beer and feel a bit goofy now. More inclined to laugh with a bit of alcohol. It has been 2 hours and I am down from the pot. No burnout or crash as expected with a mild sativa.

I have to wonder about this strain being old Mexican, but the smoking will tell all.
So. what's your impression now then?
between Canna-Ballistic plant and yours seems like there's quite some variability in this line but it still looks like an interesting option to try mating with some more exotic strains without blurring too much the high. I will be moving a bit further North than my present location after a time and care to make a few lines more outdoor friendly for a new location.

I think this is either a old Mexican line or a hybrid of one. It has a clear high so I am guessing this is pure. The visual trippyness is similar to a Oaxacan I ran earlier but even stronger.

I wish it had more euphoria but other than that this is a strain I am glad I ran. I might try mixing it with some HB x BB which has a ton of euphoria.

She looks like a nice plant. Congrats, although I am sorry to hear that the horrible weather took a toll on her. What does she smell like? I've been thinking about picking this one up myself. For those who are into Mexican sativas I highly recommend Mextiza and looking into Eskobar's gear. Aztec Rain is lovely smoke if you prefer something a little more tamed and modern or he also offers Oaxican and Jalisco IBL. Stay away from the Purple Storm though.

Hi The Hatter ... yeah, nature giveth and nature taketh.

I took my First Lady down yesterday (just as well, as its pissing with rain again today). However, I was pleased overall with how well she has stood up to the weather over the past couple of weeks ... and a few warm sunny days at the end certainly helped her. She has very sharp woody (cedar?) smells, which remind me of potent bushweed in Oz from the mid-80s. Her buds are fairly tight, but they actually look like they are tightly grown foxtails (which are generally airy).

Unfortunately I missed out on the Mextiza, but I do have both of Esko's Aztec Rain and Jalisco to try at some stage. I also recently bought some of CBG's Jarilla and Bodhi's Aculpulco Gold and Oaxaca ... we are certainly spoilt at the moment with all these amazing strains being readily available ... I might need to book in another lifetime here !!
