First Grow: Himalaya Blue Diesel in Uruguay

Hey just FYI, if you're dying to smoke that ASAP, and I'm sure you are. You may want to use the water curing method for just a few buds to get you through, and regular jar curing for the rest. Don't know if you've heard of water curing, but just a suggestion in case you hadn't, it's much faster.

Weekend Update - Harvest 1 !!!!!

So.....

After 10 weeks and a lot of love the first two plants have been harvested and manicured.

Gave them 24 hours total darkness before harvesting and it seemed to make a difference with the amount of resin. Manicuring them was great fun and they were extremely sticky with an amazing smell.

No Amber Trich's but they were all milky white, so it had to be done !

They are now in to dry but kept 2 buds (couldn't resist !) and put them into a dehydrator for 24 hours so should be having some fun tomorrow night.

The remaining three plants are all doing well and look like they need another 7-10 days max.

Also mixed the new soil for the 2nd grow today and will be germinating 6 seeds next Saturday:

2 each of: Easy Ryder, More Himalaya Blue Diesel and Diesel Ryders.

This time they will be going straight into 6.5L pots so there will be no transplanting after 3 weeks and they will be a lot closer to the light from day one (400w Metal Halide bulb).

The Soil mix will be:

40% Peat Moss / 20% each of Worm Castings, Perlite and Coco Fibre. Added to each 6.5L pot will be 20g Dolomite Lime, 10g Epsom Salts and 12g of High Nitrogen Bat Guano.

Then one each of the seeds/pots will have High Phosphorous Bat Guano added as well, with the other seed having Bone Meal and Chicken Guano and we'll see which ones come out the best !

That's it for now, may post a mid week smoke report on the dehydrated buds if I get chance.

So did you try the bud dried in the dehydrator without curing?? Curious how that was. How are the other buds doing that you're curing?

Yes and it was not good ! Nasty taste and only a mild high.

Apparently drying it for 7-10 days is when the THC actually becomes 'active', hence the need for a proper drying period.

The first two have been drying for a week now and the test of when to stop and start curing is when a branch snaps rather than just bends, which is still whats happening today, so they need a bit longer yet before the curing can start.

There will be full update tomorrow as the next 3 plants will get harvested and manicured and the second grow will be underway !

Final Weekend Update - Harvest 2

The first two plants are drying nicely and look like they'll be ready to start curing in 2-3 days.

The final 3 plants have been harvested and manicured today (see pics) and have just been put into dry.

Thats it for the weekend updates as all the plants are now drying, so I'll update in 2 weeks or so with a yield report and then once after that with a smoke report.

In about an hour the 2nd grow will start so check out the grow journal as it progresses - will post the first part of it after finishing this in a new thread.

Thanks for watching !

Hey man :)

Good job! Hope the smoke improves for you. Might want to check out the thread on curing in my sig. Some really good stuff in there.

Interesting thread. I have no experience with these AF strains but it's always cool to see what they can do. Make sure to let us know what the dry weight was man!

And if I may......relax dude! You did a great job, but I think that you made things way more complicated than they needed to be. (The germination procedure in particular was what jumped out at me -- dude, I've been germing seeds by planting em in soil, or using damp paper towels without any heating pads or humidity control devices other than a plastic bag, for close to a decade and I'd say I've had a collective 90%+ germ rate during that time.) Remember that all it needs to grow and thrive is proper media and enough water and light -- not to say that it can't use a lot more than that -- but I think you get my point. keep it up dude, make sure to post up some final shots!

ok trying your curing method with one of the drying plants (been drying for 7 days but stem still bending not snapping)

Also a bit fell off (really) enough to make half a joint - WOW WOW WOW - taste now great and the smoke - bloody hell - well strong !

Also weighed it before putting into cure (the small one from Harvest 1) and it was 13 grams

Quick update.....the 2 plants from Harvest one have now dried (10 days) and are into cure.

The combined yield from both was 1oz dry, so bearing in mind that they started in small pots and were too far away from the light in the first two weeks, I'm really happy with the result.

3 more to go !

And as for the smoke - the buds are very sticky and the smell is amazing. Smoke wise, quite simply its the best, strongest weed I've smoked (and I've been smoking for 20 years) - lovely high and taste. I'd definitely recommend this strain to everyone.

In fact the next grow is now already underway - 5 out of 6 already germed ok.

More in a week when the next 3 plants have dried.

awesome info man! So im guessing the drying process has a big deal of how the weed is! I got a jem drying right now and are on day 4! I cant wait for her to be fully dry and see what she is like!

yep drying seems to be vital - I've tried two smokes from very wet to nearly dry and both were nowhere near as good as the properly dried stuff which took between 1-2 weeks

Final Update

Just cut up and put into cure the final 3 plants as they have now finished drying.

Dried weights as follows:

Harvest 1 (one big plant / one small plant) - 28g

Harvest 2 (3 plants)

Big One 16g
Small one 16g
Fox Farm one 13g

so the organic ones did a little better than the Fox Farm and overall I got an average of 1/2 oz per plant.

Oh......and....the smoke is AMAZING !!

THANKS FOR WATCHING

i thought these plants were high yielding at least an oz + minimum after seeing your results this has put me off slightly.

how long did it take to grow these from seed to harvest?

nice effort by the way

peace

i think i made three mistakes in the first three weeks:

1. not close enough to the light
2. Lighting on 16/8 not 20/4
3. Small 1 L pots for the first three weeks before transplanting

Corrected all of this for the 2nd grow and I expect to get a much better yield

10 weeks in total from seed to harvest

i always grow autos on 18/6 light cycle and grow with cfl lights but still managed to achieve 28g dry from 1 plant in 8 weeks seed to harvest

hopefully you can improve on your next attempt and get nearer an oz per plant as i think this strain could well achieve that

good luck with ya next grow and enjoy ya harvest

peace
