SimonH, how in the world did you manage to get a BC Bloombox to Uruguay? That's quite nice! Have you considered coffee grounds in place of chicken guano? or along with it?

Imported it as an indoor greenhouse (which it exactly what is it !) although the freight charges and import duties were.......nasty:clock watch:

Got Chicken Guano yesterday

Day 10 already !

All going well and no watering needed as soil is still moist. The temps in the past 24 hours have been between 67-77 degrees and the humidity between 50%-63%

In the pic with all three in, the middle one has been grown in Biofer, an organic soil / compost available in Uruguay and it seems to be doing not as well as the other two which are in the organic soil mix I made myself. The biggest one is now 5.5cm tall and the other two 5cm tall

Thats it for today !

Got 3 more seeds on the way and two popped up through the organic soil mix today and the third has a tail.

Day 12 (from seeds into shot glass to germinate) and all is going well but I'm wondering if they are growing 'fast enough' and need some nutes to boost them up (or with the soil mix I'm using is that going to make it too hot) - all i can add if this is the case would be a guano tea with Chicken Guano (2-6-3) and Sea Bird Guano (dont know NPK) or actually how to make the appropriate tea in what quantities etc.

They are all looking healthy and 6cm tall, but only growing around 0.5cm per day and I was told that before I transplant them at around day 21 they should be around 15cm tall and showing sex ?

Any advice on this would be great please !

If there looking healthy leave them alone, I give my first feed when the leaves start to lose there shine.

dont worry about hight yet, it will be atleast day 21 before you start to see the real rapid groth

thanks - so not a good idea to give them a seabird guano tea ??

For when (and if) I do give them one to boost the nitrogen, how many grams per litre of water would you suggest for a tea mix ? Could I just mix the SBG into the water and feed as I dont have anything here at the moment to make proper teas with ??

I was thinking of 8g SBG + 4g Worm Castings into a small stocking, hung in a container of one day old tap water (one litre) and then just giving it a shake every hour for 12 hours and then watering ???

Hi simonh

Hi simonh

Hi mate
nice for me to see that my little babies are also growing in Urugay, wow!!!
I hope your grow will be ok and you'll get good result with them.
For transplanting you should do it between day 18 and 24 max, well when you see sex...Later should be bad cause due to flowering process!
I recomend u to transplant them in big containers like 7 to 12 liters to get the best result!
If you need more advice. Feel free to contact me in private.

Good grow

Im finding 7L deep square pots work well with the small and medium phenos. the tall pheno is also doing well in the same pot but could have done with 10L. Im really excited about harvesting them they look and smell fantastic!

Weekend update !

3 of the plants are two weeks old today (counting from seeds into germination) (pic 10.4.2)

They are all 6cm tall and I'm wondering if they too small for 2 weeks old (even though they are a dwarf strain !), particularly when you'll see that the 3 that are a week old are taller than this already !?!?!?

All I can think of, is that it was a different package of seeds and with the first batch I think I put too little Seabird Guano into the mix as I got it from a company in Montevideo called Biofer (and it was their last two bags of 5L each) and didn't know the NPK. So I looked at the standard NPK for SBG and used that when mixing as a guide, only to find out the this SBG is half strength (5-4-2) so on the second batch I put double the quantity.

To hopefully help the first ones along I gave them I mild compost tea today mixed in 2L of water (20g SBG, 20g Worm castings, 10g organic compost) - I mixed it for 24 hours (rather than 48) to make sure it wasn't too strong - lets hope they like it !

Would be interesting for some more experienced growers to look at the pics and let me know if I should be worried about the size of the 2 week olds bearing in mind that should be transplanted in a week and flowering.

The one week olds are doing great and between 6-8 cm tall (see pic 10.4.1).

Thats it for now, would be great to get some comments and feedback.

get your lights lower they look really streched. mine started fairly slow but they all burst into life.

ok - will do - also another thought - the taller ones (the ones that are a week old) have been on a 20/4 light schedule from seed whereas the shorter ones were on 18/6 for their first week

just raised them so they are now 50cm from the light

This might be a lot to ask, but could you possibly post a list of all the nutes and such that you've found in Uruguay, and the corresponding name in Spanish in Uruguay. like:
Bonemeal - Harina de hueso
is Chicken guano just called "guano de gallina"? de pollo?
and so on
It can be difficult relaying what you're talking about without the exact local terminology.

Another week over, so another weekend update.

For the first three its their 3 week anniversary today so a couple of days ago I started a new thread in Autoflowering, asking if they were ready to transplant - a few people said yes, but the majority said no they were too small (and their roots would not be developed enough).

It appears that I have had them to far away from the light these past two weeks - this is now rectified but it may be that this first grow is on the small side because of that - well.....its all about learning !!

The best growing one, also had droopy leaves for the past two days and I posted about that in the plant infirmary and the answer was 'overwatering' which was weird because it was pretty dry, so today, I decided that it may be because IT WAS ready to transplant and the roots could be too big for the pot.

I had already prepared the same organic mix in a 6.5L pot with 35g Bone Meal added and left it to cook for two weeks and I've just transplanted (see pic) the biggest one into the new 6.5L pot.

The transplant went very easy and indeed, the roots were very healthy and definitely getting too big for the pot, so it looks like a good decision !

I'm also having heat issues in the flower side of the bloom box with the 400w HPS - earlier in the week when I ran some tests it got up to 93 degrees, so yesterday I vented the hot air from the lights and now its down to the mid 80's (still too hot ) and the weather is getting cooler here so it could be a real problem next summer.

I've ordered a 250w HPS to replace the 400w as its becoming apparent that the Bloombox is not good in hotter climates, where its hard to keep the ambient room temp low.

Anyway, wanting to check the temp in the flowering side for another 2 days, I've decided with the transplanted one to put it back in the veg side for 2 days to hopefully keep its light and stress levels down before moving it across on monday and doing the next transplant.

Weekend Update

Hi Everyone

back again after another week has passed - the grow is now 3 and 4 weeks old respectively and as you can see from the pics all the plants have been transplanted into 6.5 L pots and 3 of the 5 put under a 400W HPS with a 20/4 lighting schedule - the final two will go under this light tomorrow.

When transplanted all the plants had great roots and despite their small size (lesson learnt - nearer the light from day one next time !) the roots had all 'outgrown' their small pots after three weeks, although for the next grow I'm going to try the 6.5 L pots from the start as I think it'll probably give greater yields.

I also got some Bat Guano (finally) so they are now sitting in an organic mix with Peat Moss, Worm, Coco and Perlite with Dolomite Lime, SBG and Bat Guano for the rest of the grow - I'm also brewing some compost/guano Tea with Compost, Worm Castings, Molasses, SBG and BG to start them on tomorrow.

I have also 'lost' the one grown in local Uruguyan soil called Biofer - it was sitting (to get it closer to the light) on a wine box that had mold on it and this transferred to the plant and it started to look very sick, so rather than keep it in the grow box and have possible problems with the other plants, I took it outside to a small greenhouse to see what happens.

At the start of the week i also had problems with the growbox temps (too high) but I vented the exhaust outside and also the air temps here in Uruguay have dropped considerably in the past week as we're in Autumn now and the combination of these factors have created the perfect inside temp for the plants

I've also had a problem with water and this is explained with pics in this post

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=170390

Thats it for now !

ps.... the best looking one (pic 1) has slightly droopy leaves - any ideas anyone ????

I had the same experience as you that these small plants make big roots and after three weeks my Automatic Hindu Kush had outgrown 1 litre pots.

My experience with bone meal is that when used as a top dressing or even dug into the top layers of soil it always goes moldy with a white fuzzy mold. Even when boiled it still goes moldy but the tea didn't.

My Automatic Hindu Kush was 18" beneath my all blue ufo led light and I fell for the forums' maximum light hype and lowered the light to 14" and could see a bad reaction in the leaves so I raised it back to 18" again. Then I noticed the leaves bending down for several weeks like yours are and tried to figure out what was wrong. I kept getting the feeling the light was too bright and they were trying to avoid it. So I moved the light to 24" and within a day all the leaves were pointing upward towards the light. So I see in your photos the leaves bending down and wonder if you have too much light. Don't forget these genetics come from the land of the midnight sun and even though the sun is 23 hours, it is much weaker than equatorial sun. Even the afghanis in the background come from mountains where there is heavy cloud cover that restricts the light.

It seems curious and strange to me to meet someone from the other side of the world practially and you are just going into fall while we are just starting a glorious early spring thanks to El Nino.
