Just tried this method with my latest harvest. Air dried for 10 days, then half in the auto defrosting freezer in a cardboard box, and half my normal method in a glass jar with some 62% Boveda packs. After 3 weeks in the freezer the buds were put in glass jars (with Boveda packs) and they've been curing in the jars for about a month.
The freeze dried buds are soft, not crispy, with a milder but deeper smell and flavor. They smoke MUCH smoother than the air dried. I can load up a large bong of the freeze dried weed and there's not even a tickle when I smoke it. The same air-dried weed feels a lot more prickly and likely to induce a little cough. And the freeze-dried does seem stronger.
For vaping, the freeze-dried weed kept at 62% is a bit too moist to grind to the kind of consistency which works best. But for smoking it's really amazing!
So +1 for sublimation. More people need to be aware of it - thanks for posting the method Gill!
