i hear you rode'
we love our bread maker all the time and get a lot of use out of it
sometimes we let it mix/ proof and bake the bread and other tiems we just use it to mix and proof the dough
we even made fresh pizzas with the dough we made and they came out awesome

im with you pack
i dident want to go in today either, especially after the long weekend
to make it worse, it was all cold and drizzly this morning
that makes it even harder to get out of bed, especially after the 80' weather we had been having
but im ready for winter man and am looking foreward to the colder temps
sounds like you were really on the ball this weekend!
do you guys put up a lot of decorations?
the mrs and i noticed a lot of great christmas lights up when we went for a walk the night after thanksgiving
the holidays are the best time of year!
Yeah Pops
I am ready for a mixing tool, my last bread attempt half rye and half whole wheat just kicked my ass. I worked it till I was weak and it never really got good. It felt like kneading cornbread. the loaves weigh about two pounds each at 3" tall . One of the kids loves it dense like that so it won't go to waste but not sharing this one out so much. I used a Hobart bread mixer in the 70s baking for a health food store. I see the rubbermaid mixer has a dough hook Christmas??? I'm trying the rye again but with a lot of extra gluten I used none on the first try . My motivation for the rye is a food chart where different blood types need different things. mine said eat rye instead of wheat. I'll try again but if you have to add wheat gluten to the rye whats the advantage of the rye. The diet is supposed to reduce inflamed joints.
I am hoping for some relief from either the new Dutch Kush or the Cookies Kush I have flowering. The White Widow helped but I could not stay awake. That may just be the deal you get pain relief and sleepy together. Thats still way better than the pills the doc gives out. They make me sleepy and I can't crap for two days. Well enough organ recital thats what we geezers call a health report. I hope everyone has a good week and be careful out there. :tiphat:

Good morning tribe.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and had plenty of time off to spend with family and friends. I had to work Friday and Saturday but had Sunday and Monday off to enjoy some downtime and get some things done around the house.

@pop_rocks. I was kidding about the 'cheating' with bread makers. Just like you guys mentioned, any tool that makes the job more likely to get done is a good thing.
Glad you had a nice long weekend and your turkey day was good. I've thought about frying a turkey but never have. We ended up doing a turkey in the oven in one of those bags and it turned out just fine. The sides were great just the normal mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn and bean casseroles, ect.
Your right this cooler weather has is great for bread making and all those warm 'stick to your ribs' meals. My bread seems to turn out very dense like the second rise dosent work as well or something.

@Rodehazrd. That's interesting I was going to attempt a rye bread this weekend but then I read that rye was a hard bread for amateurs like me and that I should learn good technical before attempting. I think they were saying that there isn't much gluten in rye so it's tough to get the dough right. Also a lot of recipes had pickle juice in them which I found interesting. That big Hobart mixer must have been nice! I've been using my kitchen aid stand mixer with dough hook for about 10 minutes then a quick hand knead. I hope you have better luck with your rye bread next time.

@packerfan. It sounds like you had a great weekend. To get all that done around the house and still get to have a couple of days to chill sounds like a perfict balance. I like to procrastinate too, especially papers when I was in school id wait until right before they were due and have to stay up late getting them done. It sounds like things are well in your garden and you've got plenty to keep you busy there.

wow rode', a hobart mixer, that is some industrial gear
/plus, health food stores in the 70's," ...ill have the alfalfa sprouts and a plate of mashed yeast", classic brother! i bet you have seen a few fads come and go
ive heard really good things about the hooks for the kitchenaid stand mixer that f'nut mentioned
i agree, the kneeding hooks would make a great gift!
for us i notice that the age of the yeast and the temp in the house make a big difference in how light the loafs are
one of the things i like to do with the denser bread is toast it and make it into cruttons, its especially good in french onion soup

i was just pulling your leg,f'nut and know you werent looking down your nose when you said the bread machine was cheating
like you said, any tool that helps you get the job done is good
im really lucky that my friend will fry up the bird for us
the chili came out really good and im making a turkey salad with the rest of the leftovers
we still have some stuffing but i might just toss that out to our chickens once the turkey runs out
hope everyone has recovered from the thanksgiving holiday and is ready to dive into christmas!
/i know one guy who will definitely be on santas good list this year!thanks again brother!

Good afternoon pop_rocks.

So I was at fuddruckers on Monday and spotted their big Hobart industrial stand mixer and thought about how that thing must be the shit for big batches of dough. It just looks so sturdy and powerful. No wonder their buns are so fresh and good. I have had good luck with my kitchen aid pro600 mixer, it's got paddle, whisk, and dough hook as well as pasta attachment and grinder.

I think your right that yeast has to be fresh to work well and temp is very important in how quick of a rise you get. I think that Rodehazrd mentioned proofing in a slightly warm oven and that's what I do when it's cool in the house. That's a great idea to use the dense bread for croutons, I love some French onion soup with the croutons and cheese melted on top. Very classic cold weather comfort food.

I actually went looking for a bread machine last week but I couldn't find any at local stores. I think you have to order them online or something. I'd love to be able to put ingredients in the morning and have something ready to bake when I get home from work. That would get me to bake more I think.

I'm ready to put thanksgiving behind me and just about ready for Christmas. I don't really celebrate the religious part of the Holliday but I do enjoy more good food and time with family. Seeing how happy my nieces and nephews are to get all the presents is cool too. I don't like the busyness at the stores though, and being a procrastinator I don't get shopping done early. Maybe I'll try shopping online this year.

Hey guys, made it through hump day, week is flying by.
@ pop rocks, hope you enjoy the Xmas present. Should be some fire their.

@ Fiddynuts, I too love Christmas. It's pretty cool watching the kids open all their presents.we are completely done shopping for xmas, which is nice. If it was just me it would be done Xmas eve, the wife keeps all that shit straight. I have been making brownies for Xmas to hand out to all my customers. I had my buddy make some for me for Thanksgiving, still have about 12 or so. I think they are bad by now. I have been so busy I didn't even try them. I still have a bunch of canna coconut oil so I can make more. We always have Mexican food for xmas. Tamales, rice, beans, chili concarne, chili Verde, and my favorite chicken mole. Man I am hungry.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Has anyone heard from Floridian, he kinda dropped of the map?

Good morning Packerfan.
I agree time is flying and I'm loving it. It's getting close to harvest time and I can't wait. How are your plants doing? I hope they are getting fat for you. Mine sure are. I don't want to jinx it but I think this might be my biggest harvest yet. That's cool of you to make brownies for your guys, a very Christmas spirit thing for sure. Mexican food for Xmas sounds great, maybe I'll try to incorporate some into my celebration. I think I'm doing the eve at my moms and making the main course which may be prime rib and wife's family are coming over Xmas day and I'm cooking for that too. My dad has a tamale hook up at work someone's wife makes them to sell and they are very good but I think just chicken and pork. You are right that Floridian hasn't posted here for quite a while. I hope he is ok, it seemed like things were turning for the better for him last post. Just checked he logged in to icmag a few days ago. If your here Floridian check in and let us know your ok.

Good morning pop_rocks.
I wish I had my shopping done but I'm a night before Xmas eve shopper type. Most of my friends will get some buds for Xmas from me so maybe I don't have as much shopping to do as I thought. I will check out the bread makers. Since I have the stand mixer I might just have to keep doing it the hard way and just find a recipe and technique that fits my schedule. Your right that most people don't have much "Christmas spirit" just a bunch of consumerism nonsense. Bring on December I'm ready for New Years.

@badfishy and Rodehazrd. I've never heard of sweet tamales but I agree that the best ones are the ones I don't have to make myself.

I hope everyone is well and having a great week...Fiddy.

Update and pics.

Update and pics.

Greetings friends.

Time for an update and some pics. The lady's are getting fat and harvest is close, at least on a couple of them. They are getting very top heavy, when the pots are dry and light they may be in danger of tipping over. I'm getting a lot of sweet and fruity smell off them lately and wasn't expecting them to smell like this. Maybe after harvest and cure they will be skunky again. The clones should be rooted soon for the next batch. I took more cuts off the more healthy moms about a week ago so I'm hoping they will show roots soon. I gave the moms a good pruning too to keep them at a reasonable size. Here are the clones and moms.

tent looks like a jungle of colas.

The first 2 plants are just about ready and I'll be harvesting them next week. The swell is just about complete and the trichomes are cloudy.

The 2 in back are going to go another week or two. They are swelling but the pistils are all white and trichomes more clear.

Looking good Fiddynuts, some nice nuggage their. My girls are chugging along, I think the cold may be slowing them down some. The ghost og is getting fat, the lemon skunk x Triangle kush are fat also. No colas like you got. I came in from watering and I stunk to high hell. I will probably take them to 72 days, so 2 weeks and a day. The stadium is blowing up, I really need to flip them soon. Gotta cut clones first. And build the drip system. Hoping I can get the school work done and the drip done this weekend.

Good afternoon Packerfan.

Thank you. I'm thinking that my 2 slower to mature plants will go over 70 days as well. I am thinking that I'll be at about 62 or so on the quicker ones. Fingers crossed.
It sounds like you sure have your hands full with work, school and your garden. I don't know how you find time for all of that. Keep plugging away and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Really nice Fiddy Is that the color or the light doing that?
Good afternoon Rodehazrd.

Thanks brother. I took these pics with lights off and an LED flashlight so the color is pretty true. I have had the feeling that these were a little pale for a while now but haven't been able to get them to green and darken up. The moms and clones are nice dark green so I'd think these would b too if healthy. Buds are doing well so I'm not too worried about it. I hope to keep them prettier next run.
