Fertilized vs Unfertilized

Hi,

I was wondering what the community opinion about this.

When growing outdoors is it better to have more plants in the ground, or less plants but with very good preparation, good soil and a 50gal pot with the bottom cut out?

Does it make a big difference if the soil is fertilized? What is the secret to making big plants outdoors without going crazy with preparation?

Genetics determine size so numbers will depend on that first and possible penalties may be an issue when growing large numbers,water concerns, etc. Make a plan on paper. Clear out any weeds in the plot .You should turn the soil,amend if needed, and add ferts the year before so it can work in,then turn it again the following spring ,then if you can, turn it just before planting to loosen it up. Plant on a waxing moon if you can . If possible start them inside to a decent size to give them a head start on competing vegetation. My biggest plants have grown in spots that get some shade through the day.

I can't speak much the the fertilization issue as my outdoor plants usually get minimal nutrients but still will regularly grow to over 8ft high and several ft around.

The one little trick I can speak on is monster cropping...over the winter grow out a indoor plant, let it finish and harvest the top buds. leave all the little popcorn buds on the bottom. Leave that plant now under lights until June "depending where your growing" and let that little plant with the scragly popcorn buds reveg under the strong summer sun. multiple shoots will grow out of each popcorn nug site and by the end of July it should be a gigantic bush with more bud sites than you can count. As long as its planted into the ground or at least in a huge container the plant should get as tall as the genetics allow but with a freakish amount of side branching leaving you with an overall huge harvest compared to what the seed would have given when not monster cropped
