Feeding our animals

I only feed my dog RAW. Other than that she gets Missing Link.
Dogs are not meant to eat dog food....especially dry. If you look at the genetic makeup of a dog there teeth are not designed to chew. What is supposed to happen is they rip or tear at flesh and swallow hole. Digestion for a dog doesn't start until the food enters the stomach at which point the proper nutriments are taken in and the the rest is left to the "waste" side.
Here is a decent link.

meh. people confuse a picture perfect kill on nat geo with every single meal a wolf or coyote or fox (all canids) has. real life is not so simple and involves scavenging and stealing and eating small animals, and overly specialized animals like cheetahs are doomed to extinction.

Although I did read an interesting comment that they don't digest bone in a kill, but that the fur they eat sort of wraps around bone to protect the digestive system. who knows if that is true.

ever notice how you digest when you are upset? now put that together with the average american or european treating their animals like humans and not providing the leadership that makes them stable and relaxed. If your dog walks in front of you, he is not going to be relaxed at meal time.

Dogs are meant to chew, they're just not meant to chew vegetable matter, although my dog absolutely loves fresh fruit (and I can't imagine it's harmful)..

Dogs and wolves tend to pulverize bones.

yeah I got a dog insanely crazy about carrot peals!

look, they probably evolved from wolves that ate our trash. there is an inuit depiction of the type of mound in the snow they had to build just to take a shit - otherwise the dogs knock over the dude as they try to eat his shit.

I find it's the inbred ones, and the anxious ones who have problems. my little guy has turned right around and digests his kibble and table scraps without issue.

that's the assumption I made until recently. now I'm not so sure. hyenas for sure. but wolves? they don't even come close to stripping a big carcass on tv.

plus, man survived by learning to bust open bones to get marrow because no one else could. maybe that's the wrong point in history tho.

My dog hunts just like that, the bounce into the air, two feet together landing on the prey... poor lizards.

And chicken.
The chicken bones fresh...not cooked are pliable and dogs can digest them without the worried of bones splintering when cooked.
Great site link by the way this is the diet I feed my dog. I just add missing link.
What do our huskies eat on a raw diet?

  • Chicken Necks, Wings, Backs, and Quarters
  • Pork Neck Bones and Ground Pork
  • Ground Meat (pork, beef, lamb, chicken, duck) mixed with such things as organ meats, tripe, veggies, eggs, and apple cider vinegar
  • Beef bones
  • Duck frames and necks
  • Turkey necks
  • Goat
  • Rabbit
  • Fish (Salmon, Sea Bass, Tiliapia, etc)
This am she had ground beef with 1 egg shell and all with 2 tsp of missing link.
For fish I feed Raw mackerels...whole fish!

Talk about a wonderful coat that never sheds and healthy as an ox. I take her for regular checkups and vet says she is in perfect health! Her energy levels are through the roof!

RE: Chicken Necks, Wings, Backs, etc.

You can usually order a 'master case' (25 lbs.) of these products (frozen) from your local butcher. They're frozen and in a big block so you'll want to have them cut it into smaller pieces with their bandsaw.

Food service companies (like SYSCO) also carry these master cases.

It's really inexpensive and worth the effort.

Yeah man...all my meat comes from my local butcher. They know me very well there!!

I had this idea recently that I wanted to raise chickens organically and feed the roosters to the cats and dogs and have the hens eventually make it to the human dinner table. As a bonus I would have alot of organic chicken manure for the outdoor garden. Anyone raise chickens here and feed them to their animals? I also want rabbits. I never thought I would become a farmer.

I'm getting my chickens next month!
Beutifull local heirloom strain!
Be sure to pick heirloom strain and not modern hybrids! It's like with cannabis, you wan't to keep landraces alive.
There's nothing difficult to feed your dogs and cats chickens, I'm more worried that dog and cat will eat them all. LOL
