I like that we can be a little off topic here with common interests. I never thought I would see this topic covered here but once again reading the organic soil forum at ICMag has changed my life.

I'd say as obsessive,nutty,anal,assholish,as a lot of organic guys can be,we generally all share much of the same interests.
It's about the quality of life,and growing good organic herbs fit's in with these other qualities well.
aka canola oil I think.
They didn't want to market it as rape seed oil.......so they combined Canada and oil.........Canola.
lucky for my sense of humor, that point never dawned on anyone at evergreen seed co. Wanna come over for some rape? It will be super fresh and not overdone.

I have a 14+ year old cat that has been diabetic for over 4 years now. He was prescribed the Science diet MD prescription food when it was recalled a few years back. We switched him to the Purina brand DM prescription food but continued to have problems with blood sugar levels for years. Last month he became violently ill and would not eat a thing over the weekend while the vet was closed. I decided to try bribe him to eat with his favorite food, applewood smoked pulled pork shoulder that I had left over from earlier that week. He ate the pulled pork and began to regain some strength. $577 in vet bills later and the vet tells me the prescription cat foods are crap. They are full of grains and "meat by-products". The vet recommended either the EVO brand 95% formula or the Wellness brand grain free. He also said that since cats are carnivores he should be able to handle most type of cooked or raw meats. This I already knew as he loves to eat anything I eat. Anyways my cat is doing a ton better eating Wellness brand grain free canned food along with whatever meat scraps I give him. My cat was almost dead two months ago when he was fed prescription cat food. Now that he is on a meat diet he acts 5-7 years younger as is using less insulin than he has in years. Now I have another reason to smoke pork shoulders for 13+ hours.

We call it Rypsi!And that's our most common cooking oil (in Finland), some of the organic brands is pretty good stuff.

How are those different from turnip greens? They've got the same broccoli style florets and yellow flowers..
Known as cime di rapa here in italy, steam the greens, cook em with a couple sardines, a hot pepper, and some garlic in olive oil and mix with orecchiette.

Hey that's how I like my turnip greens fresh from the garden. I boil them a bit, then I make large spheres with my hands, squeeze out the water, and chop. But adding bacon (or pancetta or guanciale) is crucial.
These actually taste more like rapini (also B. rapa) but sweeter. They are the same genus as rapa or cime di rapa (turnip), but the same species as broccoli, cabbage, kale, etc... (B. oleracea). They are known as gai lan in chinese groceries.

I believe the problem was melamine, which is used by suppliers to scam producers like nutro's parent company into thinking the protein content is higher than it is.

Barba dei frati (or lischi as they call em here) is great, I don't boil any of my green veggies though, strictly steamed (or cooked in a pressure cooker for some of the tougher varieties). They should be easy to grow.. says all you need to do is replant em (if you can find em fresh).
Been reading that book on weeds that jaykush recommended, I've seen most of them around here, I think I might start collecting em (there's a "farm" near one of the parks here, I used to feed dock to the pigs.. they really liked em, now I know why)

I only feed my dog RAW. Other than that she gets Missing Link.
Dogs are not meant to eat dog food....especially dry. If you look at the genetic makeup of a dog there teeth are not designed to chew. What is supposed to happen is they rip or tear at flesh and swallow hole. Digestion for a dog doesn't start until the food enters the stomach at which point the proper nutriments are taken in and the the rest is left to the "waste" side.
