it is beyond me that this shit is happening. GratefulHead made a post about data mining centers all over america, and now this... i mean what the hell are we supposed to do?

Umm, no.
First off this depends on the cell phone and carrier, and second they don't ping the phone, I think you're thinking or how pinging applies to computers, instead they can determine the last cell tower the phone "pinged from", but again this isn't used to find a person or a phone, its used to find a last known location . . . and some cell companies WILL refuse to allow law enforcement to use this method unless it's use can save a life (life threatening situation only). . . so missing persons = yes, on probation = no. And again, it's inaccurate and is used more to establish a guideline than pinpoint someones location . . .
I read this article a few weeks ago..seems warrants are a thing of the past..at least at the federal level.
