Can't stop you from smokin' grass

A F#7
Now listen to me brothers and I'll tell you true

B7 E7 A F#7
Marijuana is good for you

B7 E7 A
Marijuana is good for you

E F# G#
Breath deeply...

A C#7 F#7
It's so nice to be stoned

B7 E7 A E7
It's so nice to be stoned

Won't you sing it from the rooftops yeah

A C#7 F#7
It's so nice to be stoned

B7 E7 A E7
It's so nice to be stoned

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - "Axis- Bold As Love" - 1967

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - "Axis- Bold As Love" - 1967

And I wonder why I'm like I am, 36 years of stuff like this...

Up From The Skies

I just want to talk to you
I wont uh, do you no harm
I just want to know about your different lives
On this is here people farm
I heard some of you got your families
Living in cages tall and cold
And some just stay there and dust away
Past the age of old.
Is this true ?
Please let me talk to you.

I just wanna know about
The rooms behind your minds
Uh do I see a vacuum there
Or am I going blind ?
Or is it just uh, remains of vibrations
And echoes long ago ?
Uh things like love the world and uh
Uh let your fancy flow
Is this true ?
Please let me talk to you
Let me talk to you.

I have lived here before
The days of ice
And of course this is why
Im so concerned
And I come back to find
The stars misplaced
And the smell of a world
That is burned
A smell of a world
That is burned.

Yeah well, maybe, hmm...
Maybe its just a... change of climate
Hmm, hmm...
Well I can dig it
I can dig it baby
I just want to see.

So where do I purchase my ticket ?
Id just like to have a ringside seat
I want to know about the new mother earth
I want to hear and see everything
I want to hear and see everything
I want to hear and see everything
Yeah...

Aww, shucks
If my daddy could see me now
Everything, everything, everything, oh everything.

Natures Way

It's nature's way of telling you something's wrong
It's nature's way of telling you in a song
It's nature's way of receiving you
It's nature's way of retrieving you
It's nature's way of telling you
Something's wrong
It's nature's way of telling you, summer breeze
It's nature's way of telling you, dying trees
It's nature's way of receiving you
It's nature's way of retrieving you
It's nature's way of telling you
Something's wrong
It's nature's way, it's nature's way
It's nature's way, it's nature's way
It's nature's way of telling you
Something's wrong
It's nature's way of telling you
In a song, oh-h
It's nature's way of receiving you
It's nature's way
It's nature's way of retrieving you
It's nature's way
It's nature's way of telling you
Something's wrong, something's wrong, something's wrong

Stone Skunk

I searched and it said no one has said Changes by Tupac suprising. Im not even a rap fan but i do like tupac because he was so socially and politically concious and honestly wanted to see things get better rather than "I kill people arnt I cool" over and over in mondern rap. especially this song.

The whole song is awesome but my favorite line is "Instead of war on poverty,
they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me."

Tupac Shakur
Changes
I see no changes. Wake up in the morning and I ask myself,
"Is life worth living? Should I blast myself?"
I'm tired of bein' poor and even worse I'm black.
My stomach hurts, so I'm lookin' for a purse to snatch.
Cops give a damn about a negro? Pull the trigger, kill a nigga, he's a hero.
Give the crack to the kids who the hell cares? One less hungry mouth on the welfare.
First ship 'em dope & let 'em deal the brothers.
Give 'em guns, step back, and watch 'em kill each other.
"It's time to fight back", that's what Huey said.
2 shots in the dark now Huey's dead.
I got love for my brother, but we can never go nowhere
unless we share with each other. We gotta start makin' changes.
Learn to see me as a brother 'stead of 2 distant strangers.
And that's how it's supposed to be.
How can the Devil take a brother if he's close to me?
I'd love to go back to when we played as kids,
but things change, and that's the way it is.

[Bridge w/ changing ad libs]

(Come on, come on) That's just the way it is. Things'll never be the same.
That's just the way it is. aww yeah...
[Repeat]

I see no changes. All I see is racist faces.
Misplaced hate makes disgrace for races we under.
I wonder what it takes to make this one better place...
let's erase the wasted.
Take the evil out the people, they'll be acting right.
'Cause mo' black than white is smokin' crack tonight.
And only time we chill is when we kill each other.
It takes skill to be real, time to heal each other.
And although it seems heaven sent,
we ain't ready to see a black President, uhh.
It ain't a secret don't conceal the fact...
the penitentiary's packed, and it's filled with blacks.
But some things will never change.
Try to show another way, but they stayin' in the dope game.
Now tell me what's a mother to do?
Bein' real don't appeal to the brother in you.
You gotta operate the easy way.
"I made a G today" But you made it in a sleazy way.
Sellin' crack to the kids. "I gotta get paid,"
Well hey, well that's the way it is.

[Bridge]
[Talking:]

We gotta make a change...
It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes.
Let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live
and let's change the way we treat each other.
You see the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do
what we gotta do, to survive.

And still I see no changes. Can't a brother get a little peace?
There's war on the streets & the war in the Middle East.
Instead of war on poverty,
they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me.
And I ain't never did a crime I ain't have to do.
But now I'm back with the facts givin' 'em back to you.
Don't let 'em jack you up, back you up, crack you up and pimp smack you up.
You gotta learn to hold ya own.
They get jealous when they see ya with ya mobile phone.
But tell the cops they can't touch this.
I don't trust this, when they try to rush I bust this.
That's the sound of my tune. You say it ain't cool, but mama didn't raise no fool.
And as long as I stay black, I gotta stay strapped & I never get to lay back.
'Cause I always got to worry 'bout the pay backs.
Some buck that I roughed up way back... comin' back after all these years.
Rat-a-tat-tat-tat-tat. That's the way it is.

Mott the Hoople - "All The Young Dudes" - 1972

A David Bowie song, but written for Ian...

All The Young Dudes

Well billy rapped all night about his suicide
How he kick it in the head when he was twenty-five
Speed jive dont want to stay alive
When youre twenty-five
And wendys stealing clothes from marks and sparks
And freedys got spots from ripping off the stars from his face
Funky little boat race
Television man is crazy saying were juvenile deliquent wrecks
Oh man I need tv when I got t rex
Oh brother you guessed
Im a dude dad
All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up come on)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear you)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (and I want to talk to you all of you)
Carry the news

Now lucy looks sweet cause he dresses like a queen
But he can kick like a mule its a real mean team
But we can love oh yes we can love
And my brothers back at home with his beatles and his stones
We never got it off on that revolution stuff
What a drag too many snags
Now Ive drunk a lot of wine and Im feeling fine
Got to race some cat to bed
Oh is there concrete all around
Or is it in my head
Yeah
Im a dude dad
All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear ya)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (and I want to relate to you)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (what dudes)

Carry the news (lets hear the news come on)
Boogaloo dudes (I want to kick you)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (hey you there with the glasses)
Carry the news (I want you)
Boogaloo dudes (I want you at the front)
Carry the news (now you all his friends)
All the young dudes (now you bring him down cause I want him)
Carry the news
Boogaloo dudes (I want him right here bring him come on)
Carry the news (bring him here you go)
All the young dudes (Ive wanted to do this for years)
Carry the news (there you go)
Boogaloo dudes (how do you feel)
Carry the news

Can't Take No More

Take It From The Hand That Feeds You Well,
Not Giving Any More.
You've Been Lost But I Don't Really Care,
I'm Closing Up My Door.
Had A Chance You Let It Drift Away,
You Threw It In My Face.
Give It All I Can,There's Nothing Left
But What I'm Left,To Waste,What I'm Left,To Waste.
Can't Take No More,Can't Take No More.
Get Yourself Another Fool.
One Who's Gonna Treat You Well.
Tell You I Can't Take No More.
You've Taken All I Had To Give.
Take,Take,Take.
Take,Take,Take.
You're The One Who Laughed,Though How I Know
It Makes No Difference Now.
Used To Take It All,Just Come And See,
Decision By The Hour.
Such A Shame It Had To End This Way,
I Used To Really Care.
Feelings That I Had For You Have Died.
I Just Can't Take No More.
I Just Can't Take No More.
Can't Take No More,Can't Take No More.
Snatch It From The Hand That Gives.
Made With Someone Half The Time.
No Good Looking Down On Me.
I Really Just Don't Give A Damn.
Take,Take,Take.
Take,Take,Take.
Can't Take No More.

Sleeping For Years

Open Your Eyes,The Day Is Growing Near.
Wasted Away,Sleeping Off The Years.
Been Around,Stuck Around Far Too Long,
Run Away,Hide Away,I Was Wrong.
Couldn't See,Only Mee,Ahh,Too Bad.
Now I Know,How I Know,You'll Stay The Same.
Give What You Have,Can I Know When I
Left It Too Late?Guess I'll Never Know Just Why.
Been Around,Stuck Around Far Too Long.
Run Away,Hide Away,I Was Wrong.
Couldn't See,Only Me,Ahh,Too Bad.
Now I Know,How I Know,You'll Stay The Same.
What Did I Lose,Going My Way.
Taking No More,The Light From My Day.
Been Around,Stuck Around,Far Too Long.
Run Away,Hide Away,I was Wrong.
Couldn't See,Only Me,Ahh,Too Bad.
Now I Know,How I Know,You'll Stay The Same.
You'll Stay The Same!

The Ostrich

We'll call you when you're six years old
And drag you to the factory
To train your brain for eighteen years
With promise of security
But then you're free
And forty years you waste to chase the dollar sign
So you may die in Florida
At the pleasant age of sixty nine
The water's getting hard to drink
We've mangled up the country side
The air will choke you when you breathe
We're all committing suicide
But it's alright
It's progress folks keep pushin' till your body rots
Will strip the earth of all it's green
And then divide her into parking lots
But there's nothing you and I can do
You and I are only two
What's right and wrong is hard to say
Forget about it for today
We'll stick our heads into the sand
Just pretend that all is grand
Then hope that everything turns out ok
You're free to speak your mind my friend
As long as you agree with me
Don't criticize the father land
Or those who shape your destiny
'Cause if you do
You'll lose your job your mind and all the friends you knew
We'll send out all our boys in blue
They'll find a way to silence you
But there's nothing you and I can do
You and I are only two
What's right and wrong is hard to say
Forget about it for today
We'll stick our heads into the sand
Just pretend that all is grand
Then hope that everything turns out ok

Blue Öyster Cult - "Blue Öyster Cult" - 1972

Then Came The last Days Of May

Parched land no desert sand, sun was just a dot
And a little bit of water goes a long way, 'cause it's hot
Three good buddies were laughing and smoking in the back
Of a rented ford
They couldn't know they weren't going far
Each one with the money in his pocket
Could go out and buy himself a brand new car
But they all had the money they had
Money they hoped would take them very far
The sky was bright, a traffic light, now and then a truck
And they hadn't seen a cop around all day (What luck)
They brought everything they needed
bags and scales to weigh the stuff
The driver said the border's just over the bluff
It wasn't until the car suddenly stopped
In the middle of a cold and barren place
And the other guy turned and spilled
Three boys blood, did they know a trap had been lain?
They're ok the last days of may, I'll be breathing dry air
I'm leaving soon, the others are already there
You wouldn't be interested in coming along, instead of staying here
They say the west is nice this time of year

And from 1998 "Heaven Forbid"

Damaged

Wish I was a better person
With more control
Turn the other cheek
When the punch comes, roll
Wish I was a kinder person
Could see the others pain
Not overreact, never judge
Shrug off the spreadin stain
But Im a howler monkey
Moreaus half & half-man
A panther with its tail in a trap
A pumped up pyramid of pulsing glands
Im damaged, and I like it
It made me what I am
Im damaged, and I like it
The rest is just a sham
Im damaged, and I like it
I live for rock n roll
Im damaged, and I like it
It thrills me to the soul
Yeah, I told girlfriend I was gonna change
Gonna kick the habit and the taste
Trust me baby, this time its real
Theres a big part of me Ive yet to waste
Dont give up baby, dont turn your back
I aint no wailin lost cause
Ill toss the pipe and heal the tracks
As long as you dont mind the blood
On my hands, drippin down the back thats right
Im damaged, and I like it
It made me what I am
Im damaged, and I like it
The rest is just a sham
Im damaged, and I like it
I live for rock n roll
Im damaged, and I like it
It thrills me to the soul
D-a-m-a-g-e-d damaged is what I am
D-a-m-a-g-e-d damaged is what I am
D-a-m-a-g-e-d damaged is what I am
D-a-m-a-g-e-d
What I am
And I like it
I live for rock n roll
Im damaged, and I like it
It thrills me to the soul
Im damaged, and I like it
It made me what I am
Im damaged, and I like it
The rest is just a sham
Yeah!
Go!

Homegrown

Homegrowns all right with me.
Homegrown is the way it should be.
Homegrown is a good thing.
Plant that bell and let it ring.

The sun comes up in the morning,
Shines that light around.
One day, without no warning,
Things start jumping up from the ground.

Well, homegrowns all right with me.
Homegrown is the way it should be.
Homegrown is a good thing.

Paradise

When I was a child my family would travel
Down to western kentucky where my parents were born
And theres a backwards old town thats often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn.

Chorus:
And daddy wont you take me back to muhlenberg county
Down by the green river where paradise lay
Well, Im sorry my son, but youre too late in asking
Mister peabodys coal train has hauled it away

Well, sometimes wed travel right down the green river
To the abandoned old prison down by adrie hill
Where the air smelled like snakes and wed shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill.

Repeat chorus:

Then the coal company came with the worlds largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man.

Repeat chorus:

When I die let my ashes float down the green river
Let my soul roll on up to the rochester dam
Ill be halfway to heaven with paradise waitin
Just five miles away from wherever I am.

Repeat chorus:

Willin' - Little Feat

Album- *several appearances*

Lyrics by Lowell George

I been warped by the rain, driven by the snow
I'm drunk and dirty don't ya know, and I'm still, willin'
Out on the road late at night, Seen my pretty Alice in every head light
Alice, Dallas Alice

I've been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine
and you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin'

I've been kicked by the wind, robbed by the sleet
Had my head stoved in, but I'm still on my feet and I'm still... willin'
Now I smuggled some smokes and folks from Mexico
baked by the sun, every time I go to Mexico, and I'm still

And I been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine
and you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin

Song- Dreamer

Halfway gone, and halfway back,
You're always dreaming' 'bout what you lack.
You're takin' your time from your busy day,
To sit by the track and watch the train roll away.

Dreamer I know what you're thinkin',
I can see it in your face.
Maybe before you were happy,
But now your thoughts aren't of this place.

You've begun to change now baby, I don't see.
Oh but I know you well and it's clear to me.
You think chains hold you here now baby, but they don't exist.
You don't have to stay mama, I won't insist.

So take the train today, and don't look back again.
Live the dreams you have, don't dwell on what has been.
Your future's brighter now, there's brighter days ahead.
Any sad farewell words, better left unsaid.

Maybe before you were happy, but now your thoughts aren't of this place.
I only wish you were with me, someone like you can't be replaced.

Song- People, People

Brother, brother, help me please,
I'm as lonely as I can be.
All my friends are scaring me,
But if you forget me then I will leave.

Sister, sister, what can I do?
I'm in love with tootsie too.
Please excuse me if I am low,
But me feelings just have to show.

People, people, hold my hand.
Where in the hell is this promised land?
Float right past me, oh I like your style.
Seek it, seek it, seek it, seek it, you're here for a while.

Mother, mother, so good to me,
Praying just so I can be.
My father, my father, my only one,
I hope you're proud of this your son.

Listen to them play now....

Mr. Bungle - Pink Cigarette

Hush me, touch me
Perfume, the wind and the leaves
Hush me, touch me
The burns, the holes in the sheets

I'm hoping the smoke
Hides the shame I've got on my face
Cognac and broken glass
All these years I've been your ashtray

Not today

I found a pink cigarette
On the bed the day that you left
And how can I forget that your lips were there
Your kiss goes everywhere, touches everything but me

Hush me, touch me
Champagne, your hair in the breeze
Hush me, touch me
Lipstick, a slap on my cheek

Your eyes cried at last
Told me everything I was afraid to ask
Now I'm dressed in white
And you've burned me for the last time

This ain't the last time

You'll find a note and you'll see my silhouette...

There's just 5 hours left until you find me dead
There's just 4 hours left until you find me dead
There's just 3 hours left until you find me dead
There's just 2 hours left until you find me dead
There's 1 more hour and then you will find me dead
There's just.....................

Album- Crosby & Nash

Artist- David Crosby & Graham Nash

Year- Maybe about 1970 or 1971 ???

Song- 'Page 43'

(**One of the most simultaneously optimistic, thoughtful, and forlorn songs of that period that I know of. Truly a beautiful tune. A positive philosophy within it.)
------------------------

Written by David Crosby

Look around again
It's the same old story
You see, it's got to be
It says right here on page 43
That you should grab a hold of it
Else you'll find
It's passed you by
Rainbows all a round
Can you find the silver and gold?
It'll make you old
The river can be hot or cold
And you should dive right into it
Else you'll find
It's passed you by
Pass it round one more time
I think I'll have a swallow of wine
Life is fine
Even with the ups and downs
And you should have a sip of it
Else you'll find
It's passed you by.

Steppenwolf - "Monster" - 1969

Steppenwolf - "Monster" - 1969

Monster\Suicide\America
9:16

(Monster)
Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope
Like good Christians, some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon it went
And 'til the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end
While we bullied, stole and bought our a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

The blue and grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war over
They stuffed it just like a hog

And though the past has it's share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey

(Suicide)
The spirit was freedom and justice
And it's keepers seem generous and kind
It's leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won't pay it no mind
'Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
And now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it's all just an echo of what they've been told
Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watchin'

Our cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin' the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can't understand
We don't know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who's the winner
We can't pay the cost
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watching

(America)
America where are you now?
Don't you care about your sons and daughters?
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster

Song- Call it Democracy

Artist- Bruce Cockburn

Date- Nov. 1985

Album- *Appears on several different releases

------------------------------
Padded with power here they come
international loan sharks backed by the guns
of market hungry military profiteers
whose word is a swamp and whose brow is smeared
with the blood of the poor

Who rob life of its quality
who render rage a necessity
by turning countries into labour camps
modern slavers in drag as champions of freedom

Sinister cynical instrument
who makes the gun into a sacrament --
the only response to the deification
of tyranny by so-called "developed" nations'
idolatry of ideology

North south east west
kill the best and buy the rest
it's just spend a buck to make a buck
you don't really give a flying fuck
about the people in misery

IMF dirty MF
takes away everything it can get
always making certain that there's one thing left
keep them on the hook with insupportable debt

See the paid-off local bottom feeders
passing themselves off as leaders
kiss the ladies shake hands with the fellows
open for business like a cheap bordello

And they call it democracy
and they call it democracy
and they call it democracy
and they call it democracy

See the loaded eyes of the children too
trying to make the best of it the way kids do
one day you're going to rise from your habitual feast
to find yourself staring down the throat of the beast
they call the revolution

IMF dirty MF
takes away everything it can get
always making certain that there's one thing left
keep them on the hook with insupportable debt
