Falling out of a perfectly good airplane?

Hello all,

Alas, I did not make it into the air.

As I mentioned I am a paraplegic (paralized fromt eh high chest down) and 47 yo. Also I was pushing the weight limit.

So we went- eight of us all together with one in the group who is a regular (solo dives). There were about 60 people there today skydiving.

SWo anyway, I get there thinking I would not be able to go because of my weight or disability. To my surprise everything was a go. The only hitch was I was to be the last jump of the day because of space issues in the plane and moving about in the plane without the wheelchair.

OK, kewl, it was like a 4 hour wait, all of the others in our group were assigned different drop groups throughout the day. All is good, but as the day wore on, the temperature began to rise and the wind was dying down. Anyway, the ruling at the time was-it is unsafe conditions, you will have to come back.

I was seriously let down. after driving 150 miles and the wait and watch my friends and family go and all. But the bright side is that I was told to come back for another go and it can be scheduled. Or any other time during the week when the staff are not as busy and the conditions are prime.

Also, on a side note, my wife went diving as well. Our son goatted(sp) her into going. She had a blast.

Anyway, boys and girls- I am sorry to disappoint you with a lame story-no more so then I believe me.

Anyway, I got some buds and its a fine evening.

Thansk for all of your well wishes, perhaps I can revive this thread soon with a update that is more positive. Again, thanks for the well wishes.

And in answer to the question-"Why would you jump from a perfectly good airplane?'

wait for it...

"Because the door is open"

Also, there were signs everywhere that read "Guano Happens" As "Guano Happens" is a business name of a company that is related to skydiving. The logo had a bat on it of course.

Skydiving-bats-guano-marijauna- bats- guano.......skydive stoned????? Think there is something cosmic about that?

Further, Last night I took extra care in cleaning my brass proto pipe. I have had this pipe 18+ years now and has gone skiing, rafting (sac river), camping, concerts, cross-country, ups, downs, and sideways across this US of A. It was sparkling. I had a fine mix of Trinity county herb freshly ground and waiting int he stash chamber for after the big event.

Anyway, I smoked it with my friends celebrating their jump. It was still a rockin day.

I just don't trust the chaps in the parachute factory enough......

They go drinking at night too, folks, and a chute made by someone with a hangover is not what I will trust my life to......

Well it is not for everyone to be sure. But as far as statistics go- youhave a greater chance of getting into a fatal auto accident then death from skydiving.

Every year I read about at least one person who dies due to a faulty chute.

I have kids.

No thanks.

PS: It is looking like I may have another shot at diving in two weeks-my son and I are getting some of our friends together-group rates.

Awesome minds_I, I have agood friend that went and took the plunge 2 years ago. She too has kids but always wanted to try it. For her, one of the best things she ever did. Now she has been diagnosed with cancer 8 months ago and is thankful for the great times she had as the future is sure to be a long hard road for her. So to anyone whishing they had the courage or scared for their kids, you never know when fate will deal you a hard hand to hold so live it up, love your friends and family for tomorrow may never come. Take that step out the door of the plane if its something you always wanted to do because tomorrow may be to late.
Peace to you Minds_I,

And thanks for all the great info you post for the family out here.

Best of luck minds_i, I hope you get your chance one day. I was a paratrooper, so its a bit different (especially when you land lol) but it is probably the single best thing Ive ever done. The moment that the chute opens and you just float down is the most peaceful I have ever been. Again I hope you get your chace and if you do, let us know.

all the best

Sky diving is one of my favorite activities. I'm currently "B" Certified, meaning I can perform night jumps (incredibly fun) awaiting my C ranking. Anyone who hasn't gone should try it at least once in your life.

The first time I jumped my stomache jumped into my throat for the entire free fall, then promptly fell back down at the same time as the harness slid up into my crotch. Which brings me to my final point, make sure your thigh straps are very tight...because when they slide up as the chute is opened it hurts like a mother fucker.
