homeless once...or twice. "Camping" out for 9 months on the Island of OAHU. we had nothing. Food Stamps (not proud but they came in handy) and whatever we fruit we could pick. No car, credit cards, phone, email, bills, debt...

just wake up and swim and wonder where our next grow was gonna be. There was plenty of daydreaming going on. Wishful thinking was rampant. I remember being a bit lonely BUT looking back and comparing it to present day there was a lot of FREEDOM.

Yes,I was homeless Once but I live in the Midwest so theres plenty of natural resources, i made my way up north a bit to the deep woods and camped out for a little less than a year. Winter time really sucked ass quite a few nights I was sure I would freeze to death I had a tent a roaring fire and deer, rabbit but that doesn't mean shit when it's -10 to -20 for weeks at a time eventually i got back on my feet. I'll never forget that year and am very grateful for the life I have now.

rabbit don't have enough fat to support you in a cold situation.you def need another source like deer....you needs the fat to keeps you ass warm...yeehaw .. I know all about cold being from new England a lot of time in maine and other coldass spots..very few folks can hunt to live..most would perish without supermarkets...I did it for a few years but in a cabin

This thread is one of the best, and most inspiring, on IC.

I've slept in my car a couple times, spent a couple months here or there at a friend's pad. Far from what I would consider homeless though.

I've often thought about it though. Honestly, I can think of no better way to spend a summer than camping out and doing some real guerrilla growing. Days spent taking care of different plots, cooking and eating REAL food, smoking joints, and enjoying the great outdoors. Nights smoking joints, reading & writing, stargazing; perhaps even a little harmonica or guitar.

Oh, now that's what I call a summer.

^^camping out like that is great. Not so much when there's no other option though.
I was amazed how many other people here on Ic have been in this situation and are now doing good.

i am more amazed when people never have any really bad luck.

most folks go through some shitty situations, including homelessness. Often it is a sacrifice in order to keep doing something they enjoy or feel obligated to.

it's nice when people bounce back fully but i kind of expect that to happen sometimes. it sucks though when people dont bounce back and they just feel sorry for themselves forever.

Some heavy stories in this thread, yikes!

I haven't been homeless but when I met my girlfriend she was in debt, not a huge sum(a good year worth of heavy saving), but enough to get homeless. Thank god there is a legal option in our country where you can let a lawyer manage your debt which also stops the interests from piling up. If it weren't for that we'd still be paying off interest on that debt I believe...

Made me realize how easy it is to get homeless. Not even pulling some bad shit, just neglecting on paying your bills for a half year could be enough. How crazy is that?
And criminal, the fees, interests and extra costs that they freely add at will, and sending some guys over to take your goods leaving you with nothing... It should be against the law, a lot less people would get trapped and end up homeless this way.

Nowadays I feel really uneasy when I don't have a couple thousand on the bank for reserve. You never know what crazy shit they want you to pay for this time...

Not sure if i answered but yes.

Was heading for the shelter but a friend offered me a room until i got straightened out.

Had another friend and his mom offer to shelter me, but they lived in a tiny place and had disagreements from time to time. Thinking about it, it was very nice of them.

I been all over with nothing but a backpack, sticking my thumb out, hopping freight, walking, riding a bike. Unforgettable times meeting great people, seeing beautiful places, so many unique experiences.

Of course your going to get cold, wet, hungry, scared, lonely.... constantly harassed by police and probably arrested a few times but there is no meaning without contrast. Ya know?

good news!

Just finished my 2nd week at the new job & feeling great!
Had my shit packed with nowhere to go just 2 weeks ago.
Been looking for work since 2008.

I set my lights back up and cracked 20 seeds. lol

But the friggin IRS wants me to be homeless demanding so much interest on the debt from '08, '09, & '10 when I couldn't pay the tax on my unemployment.
Tax on unemployment blows anyway and they are demanding it NOW.

Gimme a minute to catch my breath IRS-maybe buy a few clothes for the first time in 10 years?!
