For a short time when I was a young man.

But instead of standing on a corner with a fucking cardboard sign I found a job...then rented a room and so on....

I lost a place to live when I was around 20 years old. Became "one of those people"

Ended up at a halfway house with some really scary mentally ill people and some folks struggling with cocaine or other bullshit. I had zero cash and had to eat food that was given to me or gotten at the food shelf. I was only there for about 45 days because I basically gave myself to a farmer so that I could get away from the system. I worked my way up and now I have a degree and a life I enjoy.

The other day my friend I met when I was closer to the street stopped by and invited me to the community dinner around town. This is the nice no preaching show up and be fed style. Food was damn good, and I ate more then I have all summer in that sitting. I had no problem sitting around those with nothing and nowhere. Once you have walked outside the city and in the jungle you are always in a way a brother and not shunned. It was fun talking to junkies and hobos again, interesting to say the least.

I did turn him down when he invited me to go to the connected AA meeting. LOl, I went home and cracked a home brew and Thanked God for my life.

You know religion is scary, but faith in some God-like-power has brought a deeper consciousness due to my spirituality. There is little in life other then hard times and redemption which teaches gentleness and truthfulness. If we were alone life would be very shallow, and beers wouldn't taste as good as in the company of comrades.

i was 13 the first time i went homeless. parents kicked me out the house for not coming home one night. tough love my mom allways said. well i just hit the streets of seattle and started smoking crack. hey it was the 80's and crack was everywhere. so i got all hooked on crack started stealing shit to support my habbit. so during the day i would crawl into the paper recycling bins to stay safe from the freaks downtown. the paper box had a slot like 8" high by maybe 20" wide. too small for any adult to make it thru. so yeah i learned alot about life and the streets not to mention how to rock up cocain. oh hey i also learned the difference between crack and free baseing. so being homeless wasnt that bad for me, id hit godfathers pizza on the water front for there lunch buffet. grab a dirty plate off the table, exchange it for a clean one eat pizza for free. than ask for a small box so as to take some for later. steal a bottle of grape mad dog 20/20 and get my drink on. steal some thing, exchange it for crack. smoke till it ran out, crawl into recycling bin and repeat. day after epic day. wasnt bad for 13 i guess......

i have lived in a tent for a bit over three years, not continuously but at least one 6 month period and lots of 4 months at a time, including late winter in alaska...but i didnt really think of myself as being homeless...i just had a highly portable home was all...

spent lots of homeless nights in alaska too. (self-imposed hardships)

...most of 1999
....3/4ths of 2003
....and most of 2005

mostly in my truck, some times in a tent, but tent camping in alaska sucks (especially near seward)

we had a trapper cabin for a while, a camper van for a while and lived on a cpl boats.

things are alot better now days, but wouldn't give those days back for anything...had lots of fun

are you like typing from inside a tent right now? Or do you have to go to town or something? That's cool, that's the way I want to live. I need the internet/phone access though. Tents rule. I'm thinking about living in the Adirondacks for a year

I can see how living in a tent in a nice, cool place like Alaska would be allrighth..or in the woods...except maybe when it gets below freezing..

But try doing that in a hot ass,80% humidity....90f climate..then tell me how it goes..I know I wont be able to sleep...Id ratehr be in the cold, then in the hot, humid homeless in a tent..

Peace be upon all yee brothers, and let karma show her true form to those who deserve it.Namaste.

Back in the early 90's was homeless for a bit. Sleeping in a garage, friends, girls crib, etc...Yea, it does make you appreciate things in life..I wake up every morning, and have a cup of humple soup..Gotta love life, and its experiences.

lived out of my car for a month or so. Bathed in a pond or at the YMCA if I could sneak in.

Nothing more depressing than leaving work and buying a sub then driving right to a parking spot near some woods that is now your home.

Was doing day labor at the time, where you get paid at the end of the day...took my hard-earned check right over to the supermarket to cash at the bank inside...cashed it...when I got to my car and reached in my pocket the money was gone. I went back inside, but yeah, the money was gone. I had barely enough gas to get to my parking/sleeping spot, and no food or weed, and just lost the money I earned busting my ass all day doing hard labor

I stayed in a crack house with prostitutes but I never actually slept, so I'll say no I did not crash homies!

Funny how the "free" food comes with the god propaganda......a price for everything.

WTF does it truly matter who feeds you when you're hungry?

In a perfect world, you atheist fucks would be able to feed yourselves...or do you people not 'do' charities?

Was homeless between 16 and 18, both real sleeping on the streets homeless and "Technically" homeless in that I might have been on someones couch, but at risk of being in a doorway at any moment. Spent a lot of time in squats(which is going to be crime thanks to the con-dems, fuck em in the neck) and living in trailers and benders with the crusties(people the state and media called "New age travellers").
I sold the big issue to make my living-and a bloody good living I made too, 50 quid a day cash(you have to make an effort or you wont make even 5 pounds), 100 on a saturday, and xmas-well that was awesome. One morning around xmas Id been out 10 minutes, sold 2 magazines, but got 40 quid and a eighth for em LOL.
I never went to the night shelter because frankly I'd rather sleep in a doorway than get scabies and lice and have my shoes stolen-which is certain to happen in the night shelters.
Had some mad times out there, crazy stuff happened, good and bad. I sold a big issue to Billy Connolly, tried to sell one to Noel Gallagher but he was a miserable ignorant twat who grunted his disdain without meeting my eye.
I got offered a job doing porno, but pussed out in fear of snuff movies LOL. I had a well dressed lady in her 40s ask if I wanted to come home for a bath-but she looked at me and raised her eyebrows as she said it--bathtime was not what she had in mind if you get me, I pussed on that too as I had seen Ken Russels "Lair of the White Worm" bathtime scene LOL. I had similar offers of a bed from older blokes who I'm pretty sure wanted my arse.
I sold squidgey black from my big issue pitch, Id buy a quarter for £25, make 3 x gram deals- £5 each and get my daily 4 grams for a tenner.
I would quite often take on casual labouring work from builders working on offices and shops in the city, they'd walk up and pffer x amount for a day doing stuff like mixing cement and carrying 100 sheets of plasterboard(drywall) up 10 flights of stairs.
I got asked to go tarmaccing in Germany with some Irish travellers, but didn't go, and it was good job too, they took my mates passport and didnt pay him, he had to hitch back to England with no money or ID. The story in the media last year about the "Slaves" on a travellers site-well that's been going on for years.
I had a lot of fun while homeless, I even had a fan club of 14 year old metal/goth/hippy girls, theyd buy magazines and stand around me gushing and blushing, apparently my nickname in the schools was "Fit Big Issue" LOL I doubt it would be as much fun these days now my baby face is gone.

When I was homeless there was a group of Christians who walked around the city with sandwiches and soup for all the homeless.
They just dished the food, and didn't hold my sandwich to ransom with a sermon=real christian charity as opposed to trying to convert people.
The best food run was on a Thursday, 3 elderly Jamaican ladies who stood in the square and handed out metal takeaway trays containing homecooked fried chicken, spuds, carrots cabbage and gravy... That meal was almost worth being homeless for. Ooh I can taste it now 15 years on.
