I lived in a '72 ford maverick on the streets of NYC for 2 months, does that count? aside from that I've never done the homeless shelter/soup kitchen thing myself.......

during that 2 months I was able to move some drugs I had access (credit/fronted) to, it kept me gassed up, 2-3 slices of pizza a day and my personal drug of choice in hand.

glad to see you've persevered bro, Darwinism @ it's finest.

Sure have -
My best friend who just died let me crash on his couch for a few months. While I lived there I got a job as the manager of a Hydro Store and head growing consultant at three cannabis clubs. Was able to get a 4500 sq ft house, thanks to my boy and letting me save cash...

When I first come to the USA i only had the clothes on my back. The US helped some but that is a huge machine. I inherited a couple houses from my brother but the US government tried to take them. Thank god that didn't happen. There is a huge Colombian community in Southern California but they were too close to what got my brothers murdered and I couldn't let them know about me. What was left of my family stayed in low rent motels until we got on our feet. I assumed I lost my inheritance and won a scholarship at USC. That took care of me until I got my real estate back. Fortunately my brothers straight assets were proven before I graduated USC. For a year I worried for my family and myself for a place to live and execution by the mob. It was very stressful but I laugh looking back. I am still alive fuckers.

Funny how the "free" food comes with the god propaganda......a price for everything.

I have been..more than once..and will happily admit it.I have also lived MANY months, back to back, without electricity. So believe me,I have been through some shit...

I feel that experiences like this, help give people a sense of empathy for their fellow man..I feel this prevents you from being a self absorbed, arrogant piece of shit later in life..and for that Im grateful.

Many People who are born with a silver spoon up their ass, dont really develop a sense of empathy to those around them, and go through life thinking the world revolves around them..

While your down,it seems youll never get back up..it seems hopeless, and we let the negativity cloud our entire mind...but take it from me,I have been down and out,and here I am,back up again..so there is always hope my brothers.

I find it funny how people complain about hearing about someone sharing their faith while giving you free food and shelter. I find that odd... but hey... you do not have to go there for help. I know for me... while I was homeless I lived in a mens home and one of the requirments was to go to church and look for a job... needless to say it helped and am a better man for it... also have a great wife and kids because of it. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

My best friend talks about being homeless when he was younger.

I always cry because I am laughing so hard.

Having humor about such a crappy situation is amazing.

If you go homeless, the weather is REALLY nice in Burbank for most of the year.

Went homeless while my wife and I were both employed at full time jobs. Spent 5 months living out of our car, 9yr old boy and 2 cats. Spent 3 months camping in the Angeles Nat. forest (Only supposed to be allowed 30 days each year... but we managed) and commuting to Burbank for work.

When it got cold, we moved into a housing situation in Compton. Woah! Never experienced such ignorance in my life. Wow.

Finally had enough saved up to move out of the city and get a crappy place for a while.

While we were still homeless, I had back pain and went through hospital for a few days. When they went to release me they asked me if I had help at 'home' and could get around. When I told them I was homeless they didn't believe me. "But you're so CLEAN!" they said.

"Yeah...... and do you have any idea how much WORK that takes!?"

The stories the nurses told me about other 'homeless' folks that had come through there were truly disgusting.

I'd sooner trust someone who's been homeless and worked their way back than someone who's never missed a meal.

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:

Edit: My kid was fed, bathed and wearing clean clothes... every day for school. Being homeless doesn't mean you have to quit being human. :D
