I'm sure your pump is adding a bit of heat to the res.

Fill up 2 liter soda bottles with water then freeze, add to res.

Ok everything has been kickin for about a day or two now. There are some roots starting to show out the bottom of the buckets. The water chiller is in the next room over and is air cooled to keep ambient temps down for it.

Currently the room is 85 degrees and the water temps in the res are 77. I have the chiller set to 64 but it just isn't cutting the mustard. The temps where the chiller is located is probably around 65 so that isn't the issue. The only thing I can think of is that I need a larger water pump for this unit. I have a 400 GPH pump hooked up to it but actual output through the chiller is more like 150 GPH. The chiller says it needs a minimum of 420 GPH so I need to go buy another pump for it. Does anyone know if this is why it isn't cooling my res down enough? I thought that this 1/10 hp chiller would be more than big enough for the job.

mpro - A 2 liter soda bottle will melt in roughly 2 jiffs. Besides, I didnt just spend 500 bucks on a water chiller only to be using the soda bottle method. Thanks for the response, but I need a different solution. It could be that the chiller just isn't up to snuff. I am going to add a new bigger better badder...did I mention bigger?....pump and then we will see.

Thanks Mpro, all responses are good because it keeps me on my toes and thinking. I did actually do the frozen water bottle thing for a couple days while waiting for the chiller to get here. Like I said it didn't really cool the water much and it was all melted in an hour or two.

very nice setup man, im going to move soon in my house...so you have inspired me!!

Nice job keep us updated! I love the pics :)

Edit: you said your air pump was getting hot too if im right? Couldnt that be a problem if its filling your bucket with hot air? The air and water pump can be 1 problem... anyway just giving my opinion im no expert.

Thak1lla- Yes, the air pump is adding heat to the buckets. I have a fan on the pump now and it is a lot cooler. The water pumps also add head, as does the lights, co2 burner.......It all adds up to needing a water chiller. I have a 1/10 hp unit but it isn't big enough when all the lights and co2 equiptment is on. I had to turn the co2 off and have the 12" exaust blower on all the time to bring the room temps down and the res followed. Even with room temps under 75 the chiller barely is able to keep the water below 70.

pico - Like mpro said, you need a 1/4 hp chiller. I have an Aqua-Chill and like it, a lot. Pulls my big res down anywhere I want it. All the boring details on request.

I actually might be getting a 3/4 hp for a good deal in town. But yeah, 1/4 minimum. I wish I would have known that before I bought this other one. The 1/10 is keeping the res temps down to like 72 right now with the C02 off and the 12" blower sucking air out all the time. So shit is going to be alright until i get the other one.

A 3/4 hp cooler would be awesome. It would idle along cooling a 100 gallon or larger reservoir. Awesome. But a 1/4 should do the trick.

sourdiesel716 - I share your jealousy. Yeah, pico has a cool setup. I can't wait till we see what's coming next from picoville.

I went and looked at a 1/3 hp Custom Sealife chiller today. looks like a nice unit, does anyone know anything about the brand? Looks like the company went belly up because of high operating costs in the USA. I can get it for a couple hundred bucks. It is a used unit out of a doctors office. About 2 years old.

Everything is coming along in the room. All of the clones have pretty much popped roots down in to the buckets. Can't wait to get the chiller so I can turn on the CO2.

Custom Sealife is a good brand and as far as I know they went out of business.

I have an unused 1/5 lying around for the past 2-3 years.. Bought it for a reef tank and never needed it. lolz.

Not much to be updated unfortunately with this room. Don't really want to go in to the details but the room was dismantled for a variety of reasons. The fun equiptment is still around and will be put to use in my other rooms. I still have 2 omega gardens I am working with and 5000 watts of hps kicking around. Had a major spider mite problem that I am dealing with. They are really bad in my area and take hold quick.

Basically I thought I could go to a wedding and have a caretaker but that doesn't work out very well. I came back to a disaster. Sorry I wasn't able to finish a cycle in this room but there was a few things that I didn't like about it anyways.
