Epic Storm? How to prepare?

wow that Tahoe storm was something else! I was a kid during 78 so remember deep snow but memory may be exaggerated too. I think we got 26 but maybe up to 31. I wish I had solar power like you seamaiden! Yeah so a CT town called Hampden got 40, wow!

If you own your home see how you state handled Obama's federal stimulus funds for the home energy retrofitting program. Part of those funds are intended to get America's homes more energy efficient, and each state is tasked with that goal. Our state still has funds to disperse, too.

I have backups for my backups.

Generator

1000 Gallon propane tank - heat, hot water, gas range, dryer

Wood stoves, a couple of tons of compressed hardwood fuel, a few cords of firewood

250 gallons of diesel fuel, runs my truck and tractor

A decent stock of food and water in the house, but not quite zombie apocolypse levels

Rifles, handguns, plenty of ammo

Power outages are routine around here; I have an outlet backfed to my service panel, and can have my generator hooked up and running in about five minutes.

Loss of water for a length of time would be the main problem; the nearest creek is down at the bottom of a deep canyon. If there was some kind of scary disruptive event, first thing I'm doing is filling sinks, tubs, bathtubs, hottub, etc. But with a truck and plenty of diesel, I guess we could find some water somewhere around for a while.
