Holy shit! That is a lot man! thanks for the pics! Even the 23-26 here is difficult to move in, feels like wading in water. Last I heard almost half a million without power, mostly coastal areas. I thought it was going to be higher, that is somewhat of a blessing that it wasn't worse power outage wise. Still if you are one of the ones without it, small consolation. I hope everyone is alright.

ive got power,this bld dosent loose power it's on a main grid cause a hospital is 2 blocks away....but you cant get through the snow on foot it's packed and heavy not the light stuff.....the snow is up to my thighs news says 31 inches.........havn't had one of these in a few years.....

I remember the storm of 12/18/2002 in Lake Tahoe. That storm dumped like 8 feet of snow in one day. Even the road blades couldn't keep up with the snowfall.

Of course I'm sure the Himalayas have worse, but this is a very impressive storm for this area, top 5-7 in recorded history! 8 feet in one day? That's insane! Thanks for sharing that man! What is the biggest recorded amount anywhere in one day or from one storm? The Blizzard of '78 dumped I think 54 in one spot, although that figure was unverified, but verfied amounts of 48.

Yeah, it was pretty crazy. Even for an area that is used to snow it was a lot. All the mountain passes were closed. We lived 5 miles from the theater and it took me 2.5 hours to drive there and back for midnight tickets of "The Two Towers". When we arrived that night at the theater we were told that the film didn't arrive because they couldn't get over the Pass (Spooner Summit).

This one's almost like the old days. Lots of snow and the wind's crazy.
I looked out the front door this morning and there's no snow at all on the walkway or on the lawn on the east side of the house. Then not 5 feet away there's a drift almost to the top of the car.
Sure wish I had my camera, on the sides of some of the drifts the wind has eroded the snow in layers, like the strata and shapes worn into the walls of a canyon. Very cool.

im from uk, but got family living in NY.

We had a few flakes fall here in UK today, but nothing on that level. they say England is meant to get quite a blanket over next few days.
Everyone stay safe, and keep an eye out for the Elder people in the area, they could always use some company and a nice friendly neighbor looking out for them.

the blizzard in Feb of '78 was a killer, 100 dead, drifts of up to 15 feet because of hurricane strength winds, crazy shit. NY, CT, RI, MA hit the hardest. Funny (not!) was the fact that NYC lent its best snow removal equipment to Buffalo 400 miles away only 2 weeks before the storm, they had to plow their way back to NYC. a standstill for days.
i'm sure Al said it will end soon...

quick update as I eat my lunch...(will catch up on comments later)
I went out and there was LESS than before, and with temps in the low 20's no melting. So although measurements currently are 20-25 with a 27 amount and maybe higher drifts, the town next to me now reports 31! being out in it and moving it... damn I am f'n exhausted, and I've just begun really! I was snowblowing the powder and saw it give way from the weight of what I was blowing on top of it, so I don't at all doubt there was originally 30+ out there! got to finish eating then spend the rest of the day moving snow. Incredible!!!

Hehheh, I remember getting up one morning up in Lake Tahoe. Opened the front door and it was almost like that. Not quite, because the homes have protection at the front door. I had to call a neighbor to come help me get the hell out, though, because the snow was up to the 2nd story windows in the front, where the vehicle was, etc. Little log cabin up there, we had, and I did love it. Very nice, neat little home.
This isn't a photo during that time, there was only a couple of feet down when this was taken. But, just imagine the snow coming up OVER the porch and up to those 2nd story windows.
