Easy CFL method... Powerstrip + adaptors = no wiring hassles

Good idea, could even use Y adapters instead of the socket you recommended.

I just get a cheap extension cable, cut slits into the wire at matching intervals, some sockets, and wire them in parallel.

You can almost wire up any number of lights you want. I did 5 in my box. Could of easily hooked up more. :D

ive been using the same idea myself

im just curious as to how you guys hold the adapter and lights in the socket?
Mine happen to hold quite firm. If they dont, just bend the prongs till they stay snug.

that shit is awesome!!! i wish i would have done that instead of a 3 unit vanity fixture. it is maxed out with six bulbs using the y-adapters, but those take up some space with larger cfls. have any of you experienced those lights falling down on your plants? it seems like with a heavier cfl (42w+) the prongs would loosen over time and the fit may not be as tight. such a revolutionary idea for n00bs and microgrowers. round of applause...

Zip ties or rubber bands would solve it.... run a zip tie around it between the prongs and then they'd be anchored very tightly. Rubber band would do the same, but there's prolly a lot of ozone right there w/the ions and the air and all (breaks rubber bands)...

Id go with zip ties to start.

Good luck, glad to help. If this became a sticky Id be amazed and honored, lol.

Nice 1...

I've played around with 'branching' three Y-socket adapters before - that is, taking a 1-to-2 Y-socket and plugging 2 more of the same into the end sockets of the first adapter, giving you 4 bulbs in one socket - but this is even simpler and could hold more bulbs than that. Beauty of fluoros is their low relative power draw too, no worries about overloading.

Sweet!

To be honest? Not be growing in your mothers house in the first place... =/

Yeah, this topic has been addressed before and have to agree with AB1337.

While you may not feel it's fair that you can't grow, you live in *her* house; just as you'd want her to respect your rules if/when you have your own house, you should respect hers - no matter how ignorant, cruel, or unjust you feel they are.

Besides - moms have a way of finding this sh*t out. Mine always managed to find my porn no matter how well I thought it was hidden, and that stuff didn't smell like skunks...

If you want to persist, and are brave enough to take responsibility for everything this entails, you could consider finding some nearby open countryside and use some of the outdoor guerrilla techniques detailed here. DO NOT try this on someone else's private property though, as this might get someone else in trouble... and karma will always find you sooner or later.

That's sad that most people didn't know that. They sell them at OSH as well. They also have the screw in adapter in order to make small HID security lights into remote ballast setups.

Hola, mmm

While I do like your thread because it teaches the inexperienced, I have a very hard time paying €3 or even €1 for something that I can simply do without and still fire up the bulbs needed for vegetative growth of our favourite plant.

....................................................................................................................
I have been wiring up my compact fluoros for many years now by removing the metal casing at the base of the bulb and simply splicing together those two wires from the compact fluoros to the two wires from old electrical cords.

The cost of the method I use is €0 and by using a few wire nuts that I have laying around it's as safe as can be, for free. :D

However you thread is great for those who are a bit on the lazy side and would simply rather spend their money on plug-and-play type gadgets.

I owe all of you an apology. Recent events, unrelated to this thread, have convinced me that I should simply keep my mouth shut on some issues. This is one of those issues. I have deleted my response.

Well lets get this thread back on topic...

Ive had great luck so far with the adapters, Ive been using them for just over a month now, no issues.

I'm going this route for my first ever grow (PC Case) and wanted to say thanks for this thread! I never would have thought to do this after seeing it. I caught this after ordering a 125 CFL retro-fit kit that didn't end up fitting.

Thankfully this cost me less than $13 to do :)

It probably couldn't hurt to use a powerstrip with a built in breaker/fuse/surge protector too if safety's a concern...

i do love this idea but?
why use this setup when you can wire your own? just as safe and would cost the same price also adding the fact that your cant fit the lights were you want them?

If someone didn't know the first thing about electricity and wiring and what gauge wire to use and all that - this is a ready-to-go solution.

Granted, if someone didn't know the first thing about electricity and wiring and all and wanted to grow they'd be well advised to learn some basic stuff first, but...

lol thats true if they didnt know the basics of wiring then dont bother with a homemade set up.
but i guess as a quck and easy wat nothing could beat this.

mmm420socal - Thanks for posting this! I'm going to use this when I get my veg cab up and running next week! The more I hang out at ICmag, the more I like it. This place is so much more helpful than the other mj cultivation boards out there!
