Ezra, that plant A pic looks like she has a little way to go yet, prob 1 -2 weeks. Some of the hairs are still white. The first visual cue that your crop is getting close is those white hairs turn brown. A pocket microscope really is an invalualable tool & fun to watch those trics change colour too! I had a bit of trouble finding one where i live so i bought mine online. Here is a link to the site where i got mine - its not an MJ site of any kind either so there is no paranoia attached to buying from them. Its also an aussie site which is always good

http://www.abacused.com.au/index.php?mode=browse&cat=SCIENCE&step=2&item=584

The one to look at is the "MICROSCOPE - ILLUMINATED POCKET Code: 2E051".

hope this helps.

Hey Rattrap thanks for the link. Have been thinking of getting a microscope for a while, just never got around to it. I tried zooming right in on one of the macros. I can see the trichomes quite well, just a bit blurry when zoomed right in. From what I can see the trichs are mostly (95%) milky, a few clear, didnt spot any amber. Not sure if this was accurate though. Most of the pistils 75% were browning off.

well I cut down one of the plants. Would have liked to let it go longer, but with the weather we have been having, I made the call. The rain made the buds of plant A too heavy and the whole plant was leaning over under its excessive weight. It being a bit gusty too, I decided to chop a little early rather that risk damaging the crop. The other plant is as sturdy as ever and looks great.

I just love taking pictures of this plant. The buds are really looking opulent. Still a while to go, none of the pistils are brown yet on this plant. I think this pheno is gonna finish real heavy.

Some new pics (sorry about the flash)

sounds like u cut that plant down at just the right time. I like to chop mine when most of the trics are cloudy. nice job there Ezra.

thanks for the props guys.

yea I think I made the right decision in going for the chop.

good question. Well the mexican did change over time. The smell went from a real funky fruity punch early on to a sweeter more anise aroma. The potency is down just a little, but the character of the high has changed. At first it was very heady with little come-down. Now it is more of a head/body mix although still mostly heady, but with a sort of confusing, cloudy finish. I jar cured the buds for maybe 2 months, and kept in the fridge for a further 8, in the freezer for a while now. I think freezer storage straight after the cure would have been better for preserving the precious cannabinoids. The Mexican is an overlooked strain for sure, great value for 16 seeds. Very sativa dominant. Havent seen anyone else growing it though.

I think I just might roll myself a joint of the Mexican right now...

Whoa, a third of a J and I am pretty gone... dam I am such a lightweight. Usually I vape not smoke, but the mex sat is great in a joint. smooth tasty and burns really well.

hello ezra, very nice plants, outdoors is the best no doubt!

one question though, in your post #11, in the second pic, i can see some kind of white stain on some of the leaves. i get the same on a couple of plants. i have been trimming the leaves that get the stain. but i dunno what it is. do you have any idea?

thanks.

peace!

Wouldnt recomend the DP Durban from what I have seen so far. In fact I wouldnt really reccomend Dutch Passion at all. I cracked a pack and only 6 germed compared to the 16/16 of sensi. 100% out of 5 packs so far from them. The seeds looked crap one was tiny, one still had half a calyx on it. The seeds are a bit cheaper but not worth it for me. Dutch Passion also kinda ripped DJ Short off for his genetics too. Paid him f/all and made their selections from only 50 plants grown from seed.

I gave my Dutch Passion Durban Poison seedlings away to a friend. He is growing them outdoors. He says they are going well so far, but I havent seen them since I gave em to him. Might turn out all-right for him have to wait and see. But I was not happy with the germination rate. If the buds are good I may have to take back what I said, but so far I am not impressed.

The leaf blades on those seedlings were not sativa looking at all. more like 50/50, one was totally indica looking and shorter. Durban in general is much more indica in apperarance that one might expect. The sensi version also doesnt have those characteristic long slender sativa leaf blades. It may be that at some point in the strains early development, some indica was bred into it, not sure but anyway the buds are definately sativa all the way.

thanks for dropping by, I remember you well from OG. I never really posted much but I read a lot of threads there. OG was an amazing site, just the scale of it. such a vast archive of information.
Nice Durban Poison buds, they look like DP buds from an old OG strainguide report on Dutch Passion Durban P. I think that might have been your report if I am not mistaken. (I have a good memory)

I got a DP x Sk#1 freebie with my last Seedbay purchase, but mine is from Sam the Skunkman himself. I am pretty sure that this version is the same as the "Early Durban" strain from Flying Dutchmen. The reason is that eddy worked with the skunkman for many years and I would imagine they would both still be using the same parent plants, as both skunk#1 and Durban have been around for a very long time in their original forms. BTW Jason King gives Early Durban a really good review in the Cannabible.

More Durban Pics tomorrow.
