He's a big name in the medical / scientific community. This could pull some weight. Looking forward to the documentary 8/11.

He's huge and establishment which is why I'm sorta speculating that maybe this is a precursor to a high level meeting in the white house. He was after all asked by Obama to be surgeon general which he declined. This could be huge. He's got to be an establishment mouthpiece for the most part just to have the position he has at cnn. All this has to be approved. They don't go before millions of people and wing it despite him not looking very sharp in dealing with the moron rehab schill he was supposed to be, I don't know, debating? So is more good news coming like the possible alliance of the Obama admin to find away to quickly get this newly discovered pain reliever et'al to those in need the fastest? That way would be to re-classify it yes?

I don't want to get ahead of myself, I think if we see more of him, actually carry a banner into the world of discussion it could be a door opener for a class change. They have to figure out how to tax it at the federal level.

Am I living in a dreamworld or do you think this kind of speculation has merit?

Dr. Sanjay Gupta has something to say about marijuana: I was wrong.

The high-profile doc, who is CNN's chief medical correspondent, apologized for "not looking hard enough" at the research on medicinal marijuana that suggests it can help treat conditions from chronic pain to post-traumatic stress disorder.

"We have been terribly and systematically misled for nearly 70 years in the United States, and I apologize for my own role in that," he wrote in an op-ed published Thursday on CNN.com.

"It doesn't have a high potential for abuse, and there are very legitimate medical applications. In fact, sometimes marijuana is the only thing that works."

Gupta, who authored a 2009 Time magazine article titled "Why I would Vote No on Pot," changed his mind while working on his documentary "Weed," which airs Sunday at 8 p.m. on CNN.
In an interview with Piers Morgan on Wednesday night, Gupta admitted to trying the substance himself "a while ago."

"I didn't particularly care for it, actually. It made me kind of anxious. It wasn't a very pleasant feeling," he said.

Still, he added, it doesn't make sense to categorize marijuana in the highest class of dangerous substances, ahead of cocaine, alcohol and cigarettes. Gupta said he did not come across a single incident of marijuana overdose in his research.

Scientists in the U.S. face a stumbling block to marijuana research in that it must be approved by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, "an organization that has a core mission of studying drug abuse, as opposed to benefit," Gupta wrote.

Recent studies in other countries have explored the anti-cancer effects of marijuana on brain cancer cells, and to ease the symptoms of PTSD.

"I promise to do my part to help, genuinely and honestly, fill the remaining void in our knowledge," he wrote.

Yea I viewed this as the "Sign" of things to come. CNN/FOX = testing water's for "American" policy and controlling of the common sheeple... Could be wrong though, they were fear mongering the Iran and North Korea "security threats" like WW3 was gonna be next week and look at the headline's now. They realized nobody is gonna be tricked into thinking another long dragged out war for global peace will help America, so they focus on their next big problem, regaining control/omnipotence over the people (Ie painting the "homegrown terror", and "gun violence" picture into the average person's mind, and expecting us to run into their arms in fear of each other....). Now their realizing we won't bend over and give our right's so easily, so I assume they are trying a different approach lately, actually listening to the people for once. Probably hoping we will all get so baked that we give up on caring how our taxes are spent lol...

yeah right, nobody hears a peep when millions of NORMAL, hard working, loving , caring, genuine, people have been saying these things for the last 70 years, but now that some "TVDr." says "Hey, maybe there's something to this" All the Government is listening.
we as individuals don't seem to count for much, like walking meat stix here to just keep the govt. wheels greased.
sorry, just felt like venting

What Gupta is really saying is," I FINALLY looked into ALL the information on marijuana, got over my brainwashing and realized HOLY SHIT I was wrong." Funny how taking the time to actually look at the facts of the case gives you an entirely different perspective.
Either that or the powers that be at the big media conglomerate where he works looked into how they could make some big cash on mj, saw how much they could make and sent Gupta out with a different message. Nah that can't be it.

I couldn't be happier that the man has finally come to his own conclusions and see's it ,for what it is. Wondering how much info he has read to date about how great it really is. Also how much can his opinion change cannabis outcomes in the future. I am very glad he is no longer apart of the obvious problem we have with our Gov. Stay frosty headband 707

its a good thing, the positive exposure, I believe he's a neurosurgeon and a professor of neurosurgery, so the TV Doc moniker is misleading, imo; and the interview pundits trying to pull up all the old adages per evil mj and he spoke explicity, imo, on Medical for medical purposes, moreso than like a bottle of booze. Rock on Medical Movement, Im still waitin to see how the "legal" states turn out, in street reality. He made the best points on medical while admitting to his own previous closemindedness that got everyone's attention. He even thru in the no overdose ever on mj, while many on booze, he made that point hit home hard also, imo. Overall, good exposure.

This sort of muted, professional opinion is one that the public and legislators may respond to. It's not much -- but it is not without value in the short to medium term.

Removal of cannabis from Schedule 1 to another schedule where availability of the drug for research purposes is greatly relaxed would *probably* assist long-term normalization and legalization of cannabis. In turn, this would open the door to increasing the number of research projects which are not designed to support the view of how "bad", "addictive" and "harmful" cannabis is.

As part of an overall continuum of incremental policy changes, it would be a start at the federal level. It is also easily achieved as it can be done at the executive level without congressional approval.

Admitting that cannabis does have a medical purpose is also a step towards normalizing the Feds interaction with MMJ laws at a state level.

Funny how when any of us "activist's" bring up any of his point's that they almost always tell us where's our research, what study was done etc, and we end up making the same point as Sanjay, you can't study an illegal substance legally lol... The least it would do is open the door for all negative's to be openly dis-spelled... Funny how the neurosurgeon is hailing away at MJ, when most of the Gov's propaganda is CNS damage from MJ, who do you think the public is gonna believe? Just scroll down the CNN comment's, even the most conservative commentators are saying "Just let em smoke already...". I felt so proud seeing the word's "I apologize..." last night, only thing that coulda been sweeter would have been Obama sparking a blunt and openly legalizing, chee!

Yah its just kinda nice/refreshing to hear someone that the general public would mostly consider credible stand up and make these kind of comments. If nothing else I think its just another indication that the ball is rolling in a new direction on the whole cannabis issue and it seems to be picking up momentum.

I don't know about you guys but I heard a lot of reefer madness stuff going on too. It was overall a positive view of cannabis but there was still that stuff about damaging brains and permanently stunting children's brain development that I didn't like. Overall was decent I guess
