Dr Sanjay Gupta: Why I changed my mind on weed

I just watched the documentary. I thought it was quite well done. Yes, they did talk about the potential negatives, like possible damage to young developing brains (but I doubt anyone here would advocate cannabis for minors other than in extreme physician referred cases, such as the amazing case they featured of 5 year old Charlotte Figgi who went from 300 seizures a week to 1), addiction (which is possible, but FAR less than tobacco, alcohol, prescription drugs, etc...) and a few other things. Overall though, the documentary really highlighted the fact that cannabis does indeed have medical properties for things like P.T.S.D., sleep disorders, pain, seizures, cancer, etc... The research they showed being done in Israel was amazing, I had no idea how pro-cannabis research Israel is. Seeing a cancer patient vaping in a state hospital as treatment to stay cancer free? Fuck-n-a, that was awesome. I thought it was great publicity for the movement towards re-scheduling, decriminalization, legalization, state control like alcohol, etc.. I high-ly recommend taking 45 minutes to watch it. It's on YouTube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fDrMal-qes

we are undergoing a sea change wrt social freedoms in this country. information is the agent of change; the lies are getting thinner everyday!!

fact is that we reached the tipping point, and there's no going back - more peeps know they have been lied to than those who don't. simple as that. there will be dying throes of hand wringing and gnashing of teeth, but it will pass. and in the end everybody will say 'WTF were we thinking, putting all those people in prison!

we are witnessing it brothers and sisters! the wall is coming down!!

CNN is also saying that they are replaying the documentary tonight, Friday 8/16, @ 10:00 PM Eastern time. Worth a look IMO.

Cautious optimism... No doubt it is getting the cause out there to millions of ignorant viewers on the subject, which can't be a bad thing!

Not a bad start.. meanwhile I'm still fighting against felony charges for having 2.5 oz of olive oil with a drop of RSO in it while crossing the border at the Blue Water bridge; automobile permanently confiscated with other things of value, critical medications withheld for four days in Michigan jail, etc, etc..

I'm impressed that Dr. Ganjay not only changed his mind, but apologized. However, I agree that he should do more for the cause since so many people have had their lives negatively affected or ruined.

I'm loving the momentum on this. This very week the Oregon Governor, Dr. Kitzhaber, signed a bill legalizing medical cannabis dispensaries.

:woohoo:

First decriminalization, then medical legalization, dispensaries, and personal use, hopefully by the 2016 election. The final step is deregulation. We don't want corporations owning the only legal cannabis! I like my strains.

It's good to see at least one 'famous' person still understands that you're supposed to change your mind when presented with evidence and not just dismiss it!

When Dr Gupta wrote WHY I WOULD VOTE NO ON POT in Time magazine in 2009, http://spoonfeedin.blogspot.nl/2009/01/columnists-sanjay-guptawhy-i-would-vote.html
I was very disappointed that his words would influence many others to believe the many lies circulating about Cannabis. I honestly thought maybe his other medical opinions were just as shallow as his understanding of medical Cannabis. I was amazed at his turn around, it is seldom you see anyone so public with a open mind willing to see the truth when it is not what they believed to be the truth for so long. Dr. Sanjay Gupta now says we have been "systematically misled" on marijuana, I absolutely agree with him, and he apologizes for his part in the misleading. His special WEED will be on Sunday night Aug 11 CNN.
He will be jumped on by many people opposed to Cannabis, not because of the science and patients that helped changed his mind, but because their minds are already made up and Cannabis is just not medicine, end of story. I am happy to accept his apology and his conversion to the belief that Cannabis is a medicine to many patients, and that they deserve to be allowed to use their medicine without fear from the law. He also strongly supports research with Cannabis and explains why the present system is rigged against Cannabis by the US government.

I suspect this is a moment like about president Johnson, when Bill Moyers said "the president flipped off the set and said 'If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost Middle America." about Cronkites 1968 broadcast that the Vietnam War was unwinable.
Gupta is mainstream, if he is for medical Cannabis, the government has lost the middle class, and the war on Cannabis. They just have not admitted it yet.

Researcher Dr. Lyle Craker has been petitioning the FDA for access to raw cannabis for
over 10 years and recently he gave up due to the overwhelming bureaucratic red tape.

The research that has been done at the University of Mississippi indicated around 70
molecules that were of medicinal interest for many reasons. I believe these molecules
have been isolated, but the FDA will not permit the testing of these molecules on humans.

Did the Sanjay Gupta story about the girl who used CBD for seizures mention if a certain
strain was used? How exactly was the CBD extract prepared and prescribed?

The girls name was Charlotte, so they named the MMJ used "Charlottes Web". It was in the form of a lliquid concentrate that they used to put a couple drops under her tongue. Same thing 'NATE" did on the other weed show for that little kid.
Guess you didnt catch the show huh? Its worth watching. Try to catch it if its on again. Im sure its on the web somewhere too.
I was getting blazed on some 50% amber "Orange Crush". It was waay overdone though. It made me extremely tired.
Great for bed time though.

both links redacted Sam.
fact is many have supported research yet it is still beyond reach while many suffer the indignities of the oppression.
Guptas' apology rings hollow in the halls of justice, reminding one of the 'change' our current executive proffered.
if sincere he must continue to fight the battle he has entered.

I'm an old guy who's been growing my own stuff and smoking for 4 decades (going on 5...), and can't believe we're getting as close as we are to some change in federal regulation. You can almost smell it.

For me, Gupta's show (I watched it twice), made two very important points - #1, weed clearly has medicinal value, and #2, you can't overdose and die. This addiction stuff is BS, like most stoners know. I don't know about you dudes, but it's easy for me to "quit" if there's a need. It's never been a problem.

Maybe before I die...

My links fixed until they do not work again.
Sanjay has little to gain by supporting medical Cannabis, the folks against Cannabis will jump on him, that is for sure. He is standing up for what he believes is right and best for patients. I hope he continues to support Cannabis and Cannabis research, as well as change his opinion about recreational Cannabis. He was lazy and should be reminded that he was part of the problem, condemning Cannabis as having no medical advantages, when it clearly did. He has changed his tune, I am glad he did. Now if we can get Sanjay and Dr Oz to relax on recreational use, and then ask Dr Phil if he thinks it is better for Charlotte to have her seizures or to take a CBD medicine? And remind Dr Phil that Charlotte is far from the only patient helped by Cannabis when nothing else worked. I want to see the weasel Dr Phil squirm as he explains how important it is to keep children away from Cannabis because it is not a medicine. We need to keep changing the minds of anyone that is a public figure and anti medical Cannabis, as well as anyone that can influence others. We have already won, they have just not yet admitted it, they need an easy way out like when Nixon said in his Nov.9 1968 address to the nation: "I pledged in my campaign for the Presidency to end the war in a way that we could win the peace. I have initiated a plan of action which will enable me to keep that pledge." Nixon did not win the Vietnam war, but he did get out, like we can now do also with Cannabis, get out of the war on Cannabis, the sooner the better. Like the war on Vietnam the war on Cannabis is un-winnable but so far few politicians will admit this. 30 April 1975 was the date Saigon fell, what date will the federal war on Cannabis end?

I see more and more Pro pot things in the media now, lil tidbits here and there. a bong , a reference.
I thought it very interesting that the US gov holds patents on a plant it says has no medical value, for 10 years no less.
