Double Thai

Dubi or anyone else ever mixed a pure SE Asian line such as Double Thai or Laos with an existing autoflower strain?
Before I get flak for the auto thing, some people up north need these strains! I prefer photoperiod strains myself, but I will never pull off a pure Sativa outside here in Canada.
I think as we breed further away from the Ruderalis it will improve with each subsequent cross to a potent photoperiod strain. I am interested if anyone has made pure Sativa x auto crosses like these yet? You guys in Spain might have not done this because of your beautiful weather!
My idea is to mix the biggest Thai or Laos female monsters I can find with the most potent male auto plants(Sour 60xOG Kush Auto?) I can find. Then inbreed until F4 and pick for only auto plants, and only keep seeds from the most Sativa smoking strains with that buzz us Sativaheads love.
Then I would use that as the base for my next cross , my SE Asian auto x Malawi to start, then bring it to F4 auto as well. It will take me some work and time, but I fucking love this plant we grow!
So anyone jump in if you have seen any SE Asian x auto crosses ?
Thanks everyone, and if this in a bad spot feel free to move it wherever it should be. I felt it should be here because my focus of this project is my Thai/Laos not the autoflower, I just want those auto genes and then I will breed as far towards Sativa as I can.

Hi SeedsOfFreedom,

We mostly recommend Double Thai for outdoor growing in tropical/subtropical climates where she really produces bigger yields and extra potency, but for your comments you really did her justice indoors and im happy the outcome was of your taste, it's a real good sign you finished your Double Thai stash so fast :D

Thanks for share your experience!

Hi Dubi,

What would you call subtropical?
Would Malaga and surroundings do?

greetings

Hi SeedsofFreedom,

Some people is already exploring the tropical sativa x auto route, like BuenaHierba, he crossed our Green Haze Thai to an auto flowering and breed the hybrid a few generations further looking for the auto flowering and tropical sativa traits.

It can be done and i don't discard we offer auto lines in the future, but like i said 2 years ago, breeding autos is not our main preference, we are mostly into landrace preservation, sativa strains and sativa/indica hybrid development between our IBLs (and sometimes play with some classics), the main purpose is to offer quality and new things. To cross everything with auto lowryders doesn't help at all to improve genetic diversity or quality.

I want to try some thai, I've been growing out DT a few seeds at a time for almost a year and have only gotten males. What's with that luck lol

I did make some crosses with one of them, growing them now. Im actually surprised to see the hybrids, split right down the middle in looks. I was really expecting heavy sativa looking plants.

Maybe its better to work with good autohaze and leave indica hybrids

Sorry if it's not the right subforum, but I wanted to mention I just started growing a couple of (super)auto sativas, of which one is Thai(the other from Brazil), it's not a MeaoThai cross but a selection made from Phuket seeds. I don't know what to expect, so far she looks really good for a week old plant.

I will probably post some pictures if anyone is interested.

Hi Siever,

In Spain, the Canary Islands are subtropical. You can also finish Double Thai, Hazes and Haze Thais in Malaga with great success, the climate there is very sunny all the year and the temps are high (20-30ºC easily), the winter is mild (without frosts). Fantastic place to grow long flowering sativas, one of the best coastal places to do it here in the peninsule.

Hello Rusty,

The Double Thai is a very tropical line and lproduces mostly females .... you need to plant a lot of seeds to have the chance to select between different good males. It is a fantastic thai line to cross with other fast flowering plants. Good luck on your breeding projects! :)

I know this is an old thread but was wondering how many packs you think would be required to find a male worth using?

Thanks

Hi Mr. Roseberry,

The male ratio in this tropical sativa lines is low, although i think you have good chances to find good males in 2 packs, of course the more to choose from the better.

Kind regards

Thanks a lot Dubi. That's not as bad as I was expecting.

Same thing I was wondering. I have two packs of these and am praying for an outstanding pure Thai male to make a few crosses with. But I have also heard the female plants reverse nicely like Dubi used in his Golden Tiger fems.

Lemon Thai crossed to some OG will have to happen over here at some point in time!

I would like to cross the Double Thai to some old Reeferman Harmony seeds I have. Lemon OG x lemon Thai x double Thai. Yeah man that sounds like a plan!

I was wondering if anyone had any advice or input as far as selecting between plants/phenos. I popped 5 and all look healthy. Should I go with the nicest looking or clone all...how much variety is in this line?

Thanks

Mr. Roseberry

Hi Mr. Roseberry,

The first Double Thai release from 2008 was a true F1 between the Koh Chang and Meo Thai, latest releases are between F2-F3 step so there's more variation.
What's the packing date of your Double Thai envelopes ?

Hi Bob Green,

To produce the Golden Tiger feminized version i used a Double Thai Koh Chang Thai dominant pheno as a mother, the reversed parental plants for the cross were the Malawis (old killer Malawi in the first GT fem release around 2011, and the new killer Malawi in the latest GT fem reproduction from late 2014.).

Anyway, there shouldn't be any problem to reverse your Double Thai females to pollinate other mothers and to produce your own feminized thai hybrids, best wishes with the project!

I wish I could remember. I took my first order out of the packs not knowing how important the dates are. I want to say 2013 or 2014. Definitely not 2008 though.

Of the 5 I started with 2 are being culled and the other 3 were put into 5 gallon pots to veg out to be cloned. All 3 are pretty similar with one seeming to have more side branching.

Thanks

I finnished a Double Thai run about 2 months ago from a 5 pack (Seedsman) I had 5 males.

I would have like a female but I was after pollen so it was bonus point time!

I'm running some Purple Haze/ Thai that I hit a couple of the lower branches with the pollen, also running a OG KushX Dbl Thai and a G13SknkX Dbl Thai.

@waterdude

Nice crosses with the Double Thai. I wanna say you're lucky for having males. IIRC you get more females in the double Thai line.

I got a ten pack from herbies about four months ago. Hopefully i get a nice male and female to make some seeds and hopefully they sprout!
