Does anyone know the Carolinas?

Hi Everyone: Need some advice about the Carolinas. I'm currently living where it's way too cold in the winter and need to move to a warmer climate. Can some of the members here give me the names of towns down there that they feel would be nice places to live for old time counter culture folks like me?
Thanks in advance,
Red

You wont find most states that start with a compass direction to be hospitable to the counter culture crowd. Better off looking up the min/max on possession laws at norml.

I've spent some time in Coastal NC. It's nice. Very laid back and it occasionally gets in the 30's but for the most part - very nice in the winter time. Summer is god awful hot though!

Yeah, Verite, Gunns and Mtnjohn: The Carolinas do have some pretty draconian drug laws. I wasn't counting on getting caught but that is something to consider.
Isthatmylighter: I was thinking about Texas as well. I have some friends who moved to Austin from Chicago years ago, they are about as counter culture as you can get and they really love it. Texas has that bible belt thing going on and also they can be very hawkish like my frat brother and get high buddy dubya, but for the most part Texans have a lot of respect for the individual. Guess it's that cowboy thing.
Cowboys are sooo sexy! When they say "howdy Mam" I just get all moist.

Now ask me how difficult it was to find a safe gay cowboy pic to post here. The rest were unfit for visual consumption.

How difficult was it?

I'm sure I could have joined some of our gentle readers in savoring a black leather chap/ bootie shot. But we digress...

Like Gunns said, the northern coast is a great place, but still cooler in the winter. I think you want savannah GA where it's muggy as shit almost all year round. The bugs never die because of the warmth so you'll be facing cockroaches the size of your fist. Pretty much any northern state is counterculture friendly while most warmer states are culturally retarded. I used to live in Duck NC and I loved it... the real deal is whether it's the weather or the hospitality you're looking for....

Savanah has some great archetecture too, doesn't it? I know what you mean about the bugs. When I lived in Arizona there were so many swimming pools that the ecostructure was thrown off so that the bugs lived through the summer which would have killed them off if the true dessert still existed. They called them "palmetto bugs" but what they were were huge cockroaches. They were everwhere and so big that you could see the expression on their faces. If that wasn't enough those suckers had wings. you haven't lived until you've had one land on your back or drop into your soup at dinner.
I'm looking for weather mainly. Socially, I can put up with about anything other than stupidity and religious fundamentalism.

Originally from SC. Their drug laws suck. However, Charleston or Beaufort,SC are some beautifully laid back places. Lots of good people, and the food is hard to beat. It does get cold there but it's not that bad, My parents live in one of the above cities and haven't even gotten their first frost yet.

I've been thinking since you contacted me. Why pick the Carolina's? I mean, it's not that great here. Since you're planning on a move anyway, why not pick someplace better. Like Oregon or Washington or California? They have much better drug laws with comparable climates. We want to move to Oregon before we retire.

I'm from a northern state and lived in SC for a couple years. The weather was great and the people where real laid back, But if you plan on growing it's not the state you wanna get caugt in. TRUST me on that one

 Hartsville SC is nice, so is the Greenville/ Spartanburg area,Charleston isn't bad either. The laws do suck but keep your growing to your self and you will be just fine, there are plenty of cool heads here, they just have to get to know you first, people are pretty tight lipped with harsh laws ya know. It's the same everywhere ,you just got to meet the right people, just remember, when it comes to growing, loose lips sink ships and two men can keep a secret, but only if one of them is dead. Ha ha. Good luck and peace. :joint: :smoweed: P.S. S.C. needs more people like us, we'll overgrow those draconian laws with lots of sticky green love!! :yummy:

I'm not neccesarily locked into the Carolinas. I was thinking of the South because Real Estate is still cheap there and it's kinda close the the Caribean, where I have a Condo.

I'm not planning on getting caught but the drug laws down there are harsh, there's that fundamentalist thing and at the risk of revealing too much information I'm a French Creole who's grown up in the East, gone to fancy schools, traveled a bit and is indeed uppity. I wouldn't want to find myself dealing with racial issues that I'm not accustomed to dealing with and have no tolerance for, you dig? Shit, I might move down there and you'd be reading about my ass in the Enquirer or something.

That's why I was thinking Universtiy Town or Resort Town. If I had my druthers I'd move back to New Mexico, Washington or Oregon. I'm leaning towards doing that and just adding a few more buckets to pay my airfare.

Thanks everyone for the information. It's really helping me make plans for the next few years.
