Weekend Update or I'm Waiting As Fast As I Can.

Jo still throws out the odd runner but is accepting topping quite well. The Filter is definitely working. Came into the garage after a long bikeride and lungs full of fresh air. Smelled nothing of note. Inside the freezer? Things are getting stinky. So far, so good.

Seed production (right) doesn't seem to have slowed down trich production.

Very nice DIY filter man. I love how stealth your grow cab is. The destroyer is
lookin nice. Seems like shes starting to amp up the bud production :headbange
Keep up the good work bro.

(Belated) Weekend Update.

Buds are starting to bulk up. Not much but, noticeable.

The buds on the pollinated stem are a completely different shade of green. Here, they're at center and bottom center. Doesn't show to well with both shades in the shot. Last weeks trich and seed shots are a fairly accurate representation of the differing shades.

Trichs are clear/cloudy. Tried some popcorn the other day and would be tempted to harvest now but, I'm still waiting on seeds. Couldn't get flash to work on Super Macro but, the seed shells still look a little green. The embryo is still green too as compared to Thunk nanner seeds of a few months ago. Pollinated 11/24, I'm still counting on a mid January Harvest

I'm hoping the next two weeks will see some more girth. Right now Jo seems about equal to W3 which yielded 90 grams in 23 weeks. Jo will be harvested at 17 weeks.

I've been pondering the vast difference in appearance between Wilma and all my other grows. I believe it's because Wilma was the only one where I allowed stems to grow vertically. All the others have stems grown horizontally with only individual buds and small side stems growing vertically.

The photo shows a horizontal cola (note the twist tie at 3:00 O'Clock, I let it up to take the shot) Had the stem grown vertically, it would be more impressive visually but, the lower buds would be 16-20 inches below the lamp instead of everything being 6-12 inches below.

Great job fb,
Gonna be doing a sog in a cab with this very shortly. Thanks for doing a log. The info will help a lot. Looks like you'll be rewarded soon enough.

Ever think of switching to regular old HPS for the last few weeks?

My first grows were with a MH. You will see more girth with the HPS. worse come to worse just get a conversion bulb if you don't have a switchable ballast.

I was within a hare's breath of doing the conversion thing when I discovered the CMH thread. I'm absent minded enough that I'd worry about using the wrong lamp/ballast/switch setting. What happens if you do? Nothing? Smoke? Fire? Explosions?

I have indeed thought on it. I've been wondering if the more purely red/orange light might put an end to the sad, skinny, spindle tops both my Thunks and Destroyer put out at the end.

They have a MH to HPS and HPS to MH conversion bulb. They are pricey but it beats buying a new ballast. All you do is screw in the bulb. You can change the ballast to HPS but I believe you have to add an ignitor.
I would seriously try A conversion bulb on your next grow. Just put it in when you switch the light cycle. I guarantee you will see a difference.

HPS will for sure help tighten up the buds....

I thought that the CMH bulb was designed to be burned in an HPS ballast. No?
Exactly. That's one reason I got it. So a standard HPS could be thrown in ASAP in an emergency. No switching anything but the lamp itself.

Just got back from HD with a 250 HPS. Given I'm harvesting in about two weeks, I think I'll "take one for the class" and finish with CMH and try the switch on the next girl for comparison. At the very worst, I now have the emergency backup that I should've had all along.

The Great Fan Debacle of Aught Eight both scared and scarred me. I'm sticking with a self contained, "hide in plain sight" approach. The equipment to cool/filter/muffle a 400 would cost me at least a foot of grow height. I don't know that I could keep the buds out of the lamp.

Sorry I was confused. I thought you were just running a standard Mh through the whole grow. A 400 won't work in that space. Been there done that at 100 watts per sq foot if not more you are just wasting wattage and having a pain keeping it cool. I ran a 100 watt per sq foot and not only did I have to stay on top of height, burned a few plants, and constantly monitor temps........i found out that there was no yield diff between 100 watts per sq foot and 50 watts per sq. I base my side by side on clones run in the same setup in back to back grows. One grow with a 400, the next with a 250.

No worries. I've been thinking on this awhile and Deft's comment finally pushed me over the edge. It's all Deft's fault!

I've been a CMH zealot but I want to remain open minded. I'll give this a try and then we'll all know. Meanwhile, I should've had a backup lamp in hand all along. Bad me.

Ohh noes!! What have I done!!

Thats what I was thinking, but even if you pull now you'll get more than I ever have inside (sad sad sad) so just remember who's talking! I've been meaning to go to home de pot and get a philips 250w lamp, I saw them for like $14 when I went to get the tub and thought that price was just dandy. I figure why pay $50 for an enhanced blue hps bulb when a regular one is $14 and a blue cfl is like $5!

FWIW, Freeze...
I have grown my Thunk under HPS, CMH, and outdoor. The buds are what they are.
The largest buds I had were from the seedling, and all the clones are as similar as they can get under the different lighting arrangements.

I also just grew some very sativa SSH using the hps/cmh combo, and the buds were very thin and whispy. Bout like your destroyer is looking. Very nice smoke though.

What I have noticed for sure is that the CMH tends to tighten up the calyx much more than anything I have seen. I even had a cut outdoors that didn't knuckle up like the same cut under the CMH did. Buds under CMH seem so much more dense and tighter, even to a point of deforming. I so love knuckled up top tails.
